There were a few things that stood out me this time around. Firstly I found myself thinking that it's been a little bit exaggerated just how much Dean's personality was retconned after Jess came along. Dean was never actually shown to be as into reading and swapping rec's with Rory in season 1 as I've seen suggested, he made a single reference to liking Hunter S. Thompson, but otherwise it came across like it was more Rory's thing for her to lend him her favourite books and encourage him to try and find something in them, but I never saw him as someone who would have been reading in his free time without Rory's encouragement. I do think it could arguably be seen as a retcon that the show later pushed the narrative of Dean not being all that smart though, he seemed to be doing okay in that department in the beginning, then suddenly in seasons 2 and 3 he came across as someone who had given absolutely no thought to college. But still I never felt like his character was all that radically changed after Jess came along, I see season 1 Dean more as someone who was super into Rory, so a lot of season 1 was more about him trying to keep up with her references and impress her IMO

And urgh I'm so bummed that one of my season 2 disks wouldn't play two of the episodes, I've never had a problem with it before! It was the beginning of Secret And Loans that was messed-up, so not too painful a loss, but I also couldn't play the last half of The Bracebridge Dinner. I caught up with them on Netflix instead, but still :( I kept looking for damage on that disk, but I couldn't make out any scratches at all?? All I could think was that maybe it's because I have the complete boxset where the disks aren't in protected holders, you just slide them back in against the cardboard, maybe that's doing some long-term damage? If only it had been a season 6 or 7 disk instead :sighs:

I just got more interested in The Good Wife spin-off, although I can't actually link to the deadline website for some reason, LJ keeps calling it spam? But I read an article on there today which makes The Good Wife spin-off sound promising enough that it will most definitely be on my watch-list in February

Other new shows I plan to check out are Luke Cage, The Good Place, and The Gilmore Girls revival. And then my returning shows are The Vampire Diaries, iZombie, The Big Bang Theory, Empire, and Pretty Little Liars. I also need to start catching up with From Dusk Till Dawn and Wentworth

How about everyone else, what shows are people planning on watching this year? :)

Amy Sherman-Palladino has said that they couldn't get Sookie back for the Gilmore Girls revival because of Melissa McCarthy's schedule

"Planning around her crazypants schedule and her movies and her this and her that and Ghostbusters…I would just be sobbing in a corner for six months," Gilmore's creator continued. "That would be my whole life. But if her people called me up and said she’s free on these particular days or would love to drop by and just be in one scene, we would put her right in.”

But Melissa McCarthy has since tweeted that sadly she was never actually asked to return to GG? Not sure what the real story is there, it sounds like Amy was thinking more in terms of how much work and possible re-writing would involve trying to fit Sookie in all four episodes, and how that would be too much of a headache to even attempt, but it seems a shame not to approach Melissa directly to try and work in a cameo appearance :( I don't think that anyone was necessarily expecting a heavy Sookie presence?

Which TV shows did you start watching in 2015?

I really need to get into more new shows, I don't think that I did pick up any new shows this year other than Daredevil! I'm currently watching The Vampire Diaries, The Good Wife, The Big Bang Theory, Pretty Little Liars, Doctor Who (all pretty old now), and the only newish shows that I'm following are iZombie, Daredevil, and From Dusk Till Dawn. Otherwise most of my tv time goes to re-watching my DVDs of older shows

Oh and I am currently watching early seasons of How I Met Your Mother on Netflix! I watched season 1 a while ago and always meant to catch up with some more, then I subscribed to Netflix for Jessica Jones and found that HIMYM was on there as well, so I've just caught up with seasons 2 and 3.

Which TV shows did you mean to get into but didn't in 2015? Why?

I hate to say this because my flist has been so enthusiastic about this show and I really wanted to join in the squee, but...Jessica Jones :( It's not that I didn't like it at all, it was nice seeing so many different female characters on-screen for a start, but I just found that the episodes were really feeling like a misery slog after a bit. I was the most invested after the first episode actually, I really liked how that whole Noir vibe with the voice-overs reminded me a bit of Veronica Mars, and then the ending with Hope certainly left an impression, but as it went on I found myself struggling to get invested. I read this interesting article which I think that sums up a lot of what I was struggling with? 13 episodes of trying and failing to catch Kilgrave just doesn't appeal to me as much as shows that have individual episode cases, as well as the serialised element. The pacing was really dragging for me when it was all so serialised, I couldn't get through an episode without it starting to feel like a chore :( And David Tennant still doesn't do a lot for me

And I talked more about The 100 at the time, but I'm still not sure whether I will watch any more of that show or not

Which TV shows do you intend on checking out in 2016?

Amazon's "Man in the High Castle" is on my watch list at the moment, and The Originals, Luther, and Prison Break are all on my maybe list if I can find the time

"The WB 20th anniversary: Ranking all 32 of the network's dramas from worst to best "

I thoroughly approve of Buffy, Dawson's Creek, and Gilmore Girls being the top three <3 And hmm Felicity is #4, I never actually watched that show, but I've been wondering lately if it might be worth checking out as a lot of people seem to like it? There have been soooo many high-school based shows, it might be a nice change of pace to watch one focused on the college years for a change :P (Oh and Angel is #5, Smallville is #6, Roswell is #10, and Supernatural is #11)

Which tv shows did you start watching in 2012

I watched the first season of Fringe and really enjoyed it. I was kind of braced for a lot of awful MoTW episodes from what I heard about it and how it only gets really good in the second season, so I was surprised to find myself enjoying practically every episode. The one episode I didn't get into at all was the one with Olivia's niece where people were being attacked through their compter screens, but then I was expecting a lot more of the early episodes to be that bad after everything people had said! It wasn't quite must-see tv for me but it was good, I really need to catch up with the second season at some point

Gilmore Girls I caught up on all seven seasons and was surprised at how much I ended up loving it, after originally half-heartedly deciding to watch the first season to see younger Jared (don't judge *g*). I ended up really loving the first four seasons especially and Lorelai, Rory, Emily, Paris, Lane etc, although it did get a bit depressing and drawn-out towards the end. It's funny because I always hear about season 7 being the worst season because the original showrunner had left, but I actually ended up liking that one a little more, it was season 6 that I found a bit too depressing with all of the L/L drama over April. No doubt I'm majorly out of step with fandom opinion actually because Luke and Lorelai didn't do a lot for me, I thought Lorelai had MUCH more chemistry with Christopher. I didn't really care much for Luke or the actor's dour line readings to be totally honest... In general it wasn't really a show that I shipped much on actually, none of Rory's relationships did all that much for me either. It did turn out to be one of my favourite new shows though with some awesome female characters, I really need to re-watch it at some point

I also watched all three seasons of Veronica Mars, it was a show I'd been meaning to check out for ages and I finally got around to it. Good show which I already babbled on about in my LJ earlier

Oh and I started watching Breaking Bad and I'm now all caught up, I checked it out because of the Gossip Girl meme actually lol which is probably a fairly strange way to get into a show like that, but it turned out that all of the praise was well-deserved *g*

I also started watching The Big Bang Theory and enjoyed it, especially Sheldon and Amy! I'm only caught up on seasons 5 and what there is of season 6 so far though, I'm getting the earlier seasons for Christmas prsents :D

Which tv shows did you continue watching or complete watching in 2012

The Vampire Diaries. Supernatural. Nikita. Too many CW shows lol. I need to catch up on their new seasons though, I've fallen really behind lately. And I saw a few episodes of House after Wilson got cancer, but I didn't follow the season as a whole
