I'm so happy that they get practically everyone back too, it seems like there's still a lot of goodwill towards the show from those that starred in it, and that always leaves a reunion movie out there as a possibility *g*
(Although frankly I am surprised at how much the cast seem to regret the seventh season still and how it ended, Lauren talked about it having no satisfactory ending for the fans, but I wouldn't say that was the case for me when the final episodes wrapped up with Rory getting a great work opportunity, Lorelai ending on better terms with her parents and arranging to still have FND's with them, the town coming together for one final celebration event, L/L reuniting, and the final scene of Lorelai and Rory at the diner to bring everything full circle. I mean really what was the episode missing as a finale?)
I like that it ended with Rory on her own (although I wanted her with Jess) and Lorelai/Luke, but I think as a whole the season was unsatisfactory, so maybe that plays into it.
I can definitely understand feeling like the writing was missing something in that final season without Amy, but it's puzzling to me how much the cast seem to focus on the show having no proper ending or closure, even though the finale very much come across as a series finale episode to me in terms of being all about wrapping things up and bringing everything full-circle. I always get a little tear in my eye when Richard tells Lorelai how proud he is of her, or when Lorelai tells Emily that they can still do FND's without the bribery (something I had been waiting 7 years for!!)
As a mild Luke/Lorelai fan and an EXTREMELY pro-"Richard & Emily & Lorelai & Rory family togetherness" fan, the finale technically delivered my ideal endings.
However, I was still not satisfied. The series already put Lorelai and Luke together for over a season and a half. The Gilmore Family had a number of "We do love each other, despite our differences" epiphanies. I wasn't looking for just another epiphany. I was looking for some proof that that this final epiphany was THE ONE that would stick.
I liked the finale a lot, unlike most of the season. Very happy to see Rory pick job/independence over a guy. And as a finale it worked well. But I would still have liked a wedding. I really disliked the break up and the last season and a half.
Hmm I guess that makes sense as to why viewers might not have got the closure, Luke and Lorelei's reunion was pretty last minute. A lot of shows do that though with building up to it only happening in the finale (Friends with Ross and Rachel for example), so I just kind of assume that the show is leaving it for the audience to imagine the wedding and happy future to come, and that it being the finale means that the couple in question are definitely going to make it work this time
I was surprised to see Milo there when he wasn't originally mentioned as one of the cast members coming, it was so great to see practically everyone showing up for it
I think she was abroad promoting Spy at the time. I wonder if she would have shown up if she had of been in the country and available, or if she's just too busy now to return for any kind of Gilmore Girls reunion project? :(
Yeah I'm curious if she would be open to appearing in any kind of GG film reunion if one ever happens? Probably she wouldn't have time, but it would be great publicity for the project if she did *g*
From what Amy said there's nothing planned for GG at the moment anyway, but I guess that it would depend on much advance notice there is on whether Melissa could clear her schedule and take part? It does seem very unlikely now though, what with how many blockbuster movies she's filming, and having to take time to promote them as well
