Which tv shows did you start watching in 2012

I watched the first season of Fringe and really enjoyed it. I was kind of braced for a lot of awful MoTW episodes from what I heard about it and how it only gets really good in the second season, so I was surprised to find myself enjoying practically every episode. The one episode I didn't get into at all was the one with Olivia's niece where people were being attacked through their compter screens, but then I was expecting a lot more of the early episodes to be that bad after everything people had said! It wasn't quite must-see tv for me but it was good, I really need to catch up with the second season at some point

Gilmore Girls I caught up on all seven seasons and was surprised at how much I ended up loving it, after originally half-heartedly deciding to watch the first season to see younger Jared (don't judge *g*). I ended up really loving the first four seasons especially and Lorelai, Rory, Emily, Paris, Lane etc, although it did get a bit depressing and drawn-out towards the end. It's funny because I always hear about season 7 being the worst season because the original showrunner had left, but I actually ended up liking that one a little more, it was season 6 that I found a bit too depressing with all of the L/L drama over April. No doubt I'm majorly out of step with fandom opinion actually because Luke and Lorelai didn't do a lot for me, I thought Lorelai had MUCH more chemistry with Christopher. I didn't really care much for Luke or the actor's dour line readings to be totally honest... In general it wasn't really a show that I shipped much on actually, none of Rory's relationships did all that much for me either. It did turn out to be one of my favourite new shows though with some awesome female characters, I really need to re-watch it at some point

I also watched all three seasons of Veronica Mars, it was a show I'd been meaning to check out for ages and I finally got around to it. Good show which I already babbled on about in my LJ earlier

Oh and I started watching Breaking Bad and I'm now all caught up, I checked it out because of the Gossip Girl meme actually lol which is probably a fairly strange way to get into a show like that, but it turned out that all of the praise was well-deserved *g*

I also started watching The Big Bang Theory and enjoyed it, especially Sheldon and Amy! I'm only caught up on seasons 5 and what there is of season 6 so far though, I'm getting the earlier seasons for Christmas prsents :D

Which tv shows did you continue watching or complete watching in 2012

The Vampire Diaries. Supernatural. Nikita. Too many CW shows lol. I need to catch up on their new seasons though, I've fallen really behind lately. And I saw a few episodes of House after Wilson got cancer, but I didn't follow the season as a whole

Which tv shows did you let go of in 2012

Gossip Girl :Spits:

Which tv shows did you mean to get into but didn't in 2012. Why?

I watched the first three seasons of Bones and, while it seemed well-done, ultimately it just wasn't my thing. I like the writing and the characters, but the plots themselves often bored me. There were some I really loved like the gravedigger episode from season 2 with Brennan and Hodgins buried alive (LOVED that one) or the gambling episode when Both and Bones go undercover, but the majority of episodes with the more straightforward cases just weren't my thing. Part of me does want to keep following the characters though to see when Bones and Both get together, if Angela and Hodgkins ever work things out, what happens with Zach etc, I just don't want to sit through all of the episode plots to get there *g*

Leverage was the same thing really. I watched it because a lot of people on tumblr were talking about how much they loved the characters and what a fun show it was, so I checked out the first season. It was a decent show and I definitely liked Parker and Hardison a lot, but the individual episode plots weren't really all that gripping to me, so at the moment I'm not inclined to watch past the first season to be honest. It wasn't that it was bad in anyway, but shows with cases of the week format have never appealed to me all that much I suppose. It was kind of cool to see Danny Strong from Buffy in an episode though, that episode I really enjoyed.

Which tv shows do you intent checking out in 2013

Probably Homeland and Teen Wolf. Homeland seems to be an actual good show and one a lot of people on my flist (particulary those watching Breaking Bad) are recommending to me, so I definitely want to try and see the first season at some point. And Teen Wolf seems to be the new fandom favourite, so I'm kind of curious to check out a few episodes of that and see if it grabs me. And maybe The Walking Dead

Which tv shows impressed you least in 2012

The Vampire Diaries. I didn't dislike it as strongly as a lot of people on my flist did and it's still reasonably entertaining to me, but the writing for the triangle did start getting really obvious in late season 3. It spoiled a lot of what I had enjoyed about Elena's connections with the brothers early on to have it all be boiled down to which brother will she choose in the finale

And meh Supernatural seemed a bit all over the place too, it just isn't gripping me like it used too

Which tv shows did you enjoy the most in 2012

Breaking Bad definitely! I also really liked Gilmore Girls and Veronica Mars

Ha, I actually sort of agree that Lorelai had better chemistry with Christopher, but I disliked Chris/Lorelai a lot because ugh he was a total chilld abandoner, and I felt Lorelai deserved so much better!

It was a decent show and I definitely liked Parker and Hardison a lot, but the individual episode plots weren't really all that gripping to me, so at the moment I'm not inclined to watch past the first season to be honest.

Leverage is like a USA show meets a CBS procedural, which... is not my thing, really. Parker and Hardison are really cute though.

If you watch Teen Wolf, apparently it doesn't get good until it's second season.

I didn't really ship them as such, but in comparison to Luke and Lorelai I was surprised at how much more engaged those actors seemed in be in scenes together and how much more heat they generated, even though Luke and Lorelai had always been the infamous couple of the show that you hear about.

I thought L/L worked okay as friends I guess (even if Luke's character did annoy me) and I was somewhat rooting for them to get together, but once they were a couple they barely seemed to have more than one second pecks on the lips

And yeah Leverage was a show where I liked the little character moments (although admittedly the main character didn't do much for me), but the episode plots themselves were just kind of middling for me in terms of how invested I got. Lol I guess the main reason I watch teen shows still is because those sort of shows where it's all about the characters journeys and love life's are just so much more my thing

Well you're actually on the same page as fandom because once L/L got together people were really unhappy with their story lines as I remember it. Especially the stuff with April (Luke's daughter, I think that was her name?).

Lol I guess the main reason I watch teen shows still is because those sort of shows where it's all about the characters journeys and love life's are just so much more my thing

Aw yeah, me too. Like probably my favorite new show this season was Emily Owens which was really not that gr8 or anything but I liked all the characters and was starting to care about them and ship them and stuff, but oh well that's cancelled now!

Hee yeah, April was kind of a random addition. And that's interesting to know that other people weren't convinced by L/L as a couple. I was just surprised because they're one of those ships names you hear about even if you know nothing about the show, so it seems a lot of people still shipped them, but after season 5 I just couldn't see it. Season 5 is when Luke got even more obnoxious to me though I'm afraid, I hated the way he treated Lorelai that year, not to mention what a petty and surly child he acted like when Logan was trying to make him feel included at the vineyard and Luke was bitching to Lorelai about Logan cheating and showing off

Oh and I was surprised actually because I brought an unofficial companion to The Gilmore Girls and the writer and the actors he interviewed were slating the last season a LOT and talking about what a big disappointment the finale episode was, but I thought it summed up the show really nicely. I got especially sniffly over Emily finding out Lorelai that would still be coming to Friday night dinners, then there was Richard telling Lorelai how proud he was of her, Rory's send-off by by the town etc, and I thought the final scene of Lorelai and Rory having coffee together was just perfect too. Even L/L reuniting for those that rooted for them, so I'm not sure what else people were expecting or what was so disappointing about it when I thought it was all about giving the characters closure, but it seemed like even the actors weren't very happy with it as a finale episode

Wow, I had no idea people were so dissatisfied with the finale. Like... to be honest I remember nearly nothing about it, although you're definitely jogging my memory. But I didn't think it was that bad.

I remember ASP/DP left (were sort of pushed out?) for the last season, and I feel like everyone was all 'oh it's so bad' but I don't really remember how I felt about it. I was such an incredibly casual viewer of Gilmore Girls, I don't think I ever had very strong opinions about it, except I didn't like Logan Huntzberger. But still it's weird that I don't remember the finale being very poorly received, but I guess that would explain why everyone is always GILMORE GIRLS MOVIE which... why?

Luke definitely bugged me a lot at various times, but the one character I really couldn't stand actually was Kirk. I know he was kind of an GG iconic character, but I just couldn't lol.

And in the companion I picked up there was totally that sense with the Gilmore movie needing to happen to bring a better sense of closure, and the final season being a shadow if its former self and how it "just kind of faded". Lauren Graham was quoted as saying it didn't end in a way that any if us would have liked. Maybe I'm biased because I wasn't a big fan of season 6 either, but I didn't see season 7 as noticeably worse so much as it was an ageing show that had started running out of steam and there just wasn't a lot else to say about those characters anyway by then, but yeah I think the actors were all of the sense that a movie needed to happen to make up for the final season and the loss of the original show runner. Maybe they were just really loyal to the original show runner and wanting her to write their finale episode... I just thought the finale was fine as finales go, but from the way the actors were talking you'd think a ton of stuff was left up in the air or something

What little I've seen of Gilmore Girls (the first four episodes, I think), I definitely watched for young Jared. Well, and also for my roommate, who is a huge GG fan and is forever sad that I don't like it enough to watch it all and write fic for it. (Speaking of, if you run across anything good, gen or with canon ships, I would love to be pointed to it. I've exhausted all my resources, and poor roommate is down to reading somewhat unfortunate virtual seasons.)

Veronica Mars! I loved the first season very much, although I've never felt the need to watch the other two seasons.

I want to do one of these memes, once I sort out what I've watched this year and what I've been meaning to watch.

I was unsure about GG at first, but I ended up really loving it. I had this idea that it was more of a teen show, but instead it was really focused on the family relationships. Any of the combinations among Lorelai, Rory, Emily, and Richard just really worked for me and they got a lot of mileage out of them. It was such a nice family show for the first 4/5 seasons, but then it did start to run out of steam towards the end unfortunately and start introducing rather contrived storylines like a long-lost daughter turning up

Gossip Girl, *spits*, indeed.

I want to watch Fringe because of the people on it, but I can't get through some of the MotW episodes. :(

I started watching partly because of all the praise I heard for it and partly because ooh Josh Jackon is in it :P I ended up loving Olivia the most though and it wasn't a show where the motw episodes bothered me actually, compared to some of the rougher early x-files episodes Fringes were much better than I had been expecting, although at the same time it wasn't really an I must see what happens next kind of a show for me. But season 2 is supposed to be where it gets really good, so I'm definitely hoping to finish it at some point

I can't believe I forgot to watch Leverage this season.

Much love for Breaking Bad, of course; I remained convinced that it is the best thing on TV.

Teen Wolf is really awful, but in a fun and cracky way. I enjoyed it immensely and it got me through a tough health spot.

I started watching Game of Thrones in 2012. Great stuff. I also watched two Borgia shows. I probably won't stick with those two.

Fringe just never interested me. After Lost I have no need of more JJ Abrams weirdness.

I have a close friend who was a huge fan of Gilmore Girls but disliked how the show went later on. I find the mother annoyingly self satisfied.

Big Bang theory seems to be everything I dislike in American comedy. Staying far away.

Also not positively inclined towards Homeland.

Boreanaz is good in Bones but I dislike the main actress. It's not my kind of show.

No interest in Teen Wolf.

No interest in Walking Dead. Zombies are done badly more often than not and zombie apocalypses are depressing.

Veronioca Mars is great.

Nikita doesn't interest me. I don't find Maggie Q relatable. Plus I resent that they remade LFN and that the remake is better known than the original. This after Alias already ripped off LFN. And that guy they have playing Michael in the new Nikita isn't up to the role.

I haven't caught up with Vampire Diaries and I may not. They ruined the character of Stefan at the end of last season. Even if he goes back to being civilized, he'll always be the guy who sometimes goes evil and massacres a town. I preferred him as the civilized vampire who tried to do the right thing. Why is it people think being a civilized decent person isn't cool? I was impressed that he was able to live a civilized life despite being a vampire. Now that's all gone. He was probably the character I identified with most. Before the corruption, that is. Also, I can't stick Joseph Morgan (didn't like him in Hex either) and I like Klaus even less.

I would say that Nikita is worth giving a shot. With the first few episodes a lot of people were skeptical of whether Maggie Q could carry off the strong emotions required, but she really is surprisingly good when the show asks more of her. And the actress playing the younger character Alex is great too and goes through a similar kind of intro to Section as Nikita did in the original LFN. Michael I'm not sure if you would like much or not lol, he did take a lot longer to grow on me and I still prefer Owen's character, but it has some fantastic female characters to follow. It's very different from the original show but I do think it's worth watching up to the halfway point at least to see if you like it (the mid-season cliffhanger is when it gets really good)

And I was disappointed with how they handled the aftermath of ripper Stefan, it didn't bother me as much that they made him as awful as they did, it was the fact that it was all very much swept under the rug. Like Stefan terrorising Elena on the bridge when her parents died, and then a few episodes later we get him angsting over Damon kissing Elena and Elena wanting him to get back in touch with his feelings again. It felt like there should have been more consequences than that, but even the struggle to get off human blood near the end of the season seemed to go right back to late season 1 with Stefan not having changed at all as a result of that year with Klaus. The show show wanting everything to revert back to bad brother and good brother just felt emotionally dishonest after the year we had sat through with Stefan

Vampire Diaries is a standard teen show, like Smallville, and such shows tend to have low standards for where their story ends up. They often take cheap routes. Your reports of late seasons of Smallville ensured that I didn't watch the last few seasons and I'm very glad I didn't. It sounds like Gossip Girl went the same way. I have to say, my impression of Gossip Girl after have seen some of it was that that it was very petty and very teeny. This sort of thing is one of the reasons I have no interest in Teen Wolf. Maybe I'm getting too old for most teen shows, exceptional shows like Buffy and Veronica Mars being, well, the exception.

Leverage has never interested me. Not my kind of show. I've seen some eps of Supernatural. I like the Dean guy, but the show never caught my interest. I've heard from friends that they treat the female characters really badly. As for Breaking bad, I like Bryan Cranston but I don't want to watch a show where the main character has cancer.

I think you would like Breaking Bad, the cancer is only really a focus in season 1, he goes into remission *thinks* I think it was sometime during season 2. The focus isn't so much on the cancer as it is about him using it as an excuse to do things that he never thought he would do before

Oh and just to add that personally I really enjoyed season 1 and don't necessarily agree with this, but a lot of people have said they weren't big fans of season 1 and found it much slower and heavier going than later seasons, and the focus being on Walt's cancer more might be the reason for that? It's only 9 episodes because of the writers strike, and then later seasons definitely pick up the pace a little as it gets more into the meth side of things and Walt setting up his ~empire

You should try Camelot. It's only ten eps (it got cancelled), the dvd doesn't cost much and Eva Green's Morgan is a splendid character. Joseph Fiennes' Merlin is great too. And there's Clive Standen's cool Gawain and Claire Forlani's classy Igraine with her romance with Merlin. I mod the Camelot board on FF.

Have you ever tried True Blood? It's the best vampire show. HBO makes great shows. Game of Thrones is HBO too.

I have seen the pilot of True Blood but it didn't really hook me at the time, I am planning to go back to it at some point though. With Camelot I don't know to be honest because renting DVD's just isn't really my thing, so unless it's easy to find on-line I end up skipping a lot of stuff. Like you mentioned Lost above, and that's one show I plan to get around to watching at some point because the entire series is now up for streaming at neetflix. Do you know if there's anything like that for Camelot? Otherwise it can be hard for me to find those shows sometimes

It's £8

The weak point of the show is Arthur (he's the blondy twerp on the cover). But Morgan (in front on the cover) is incredible. Sinister but relatable. And there's a bunch of other good characters. The show takes a while to grow on you. I wasn't impressed with it in the few episode or two, but after a while I saw the worth of it. The key is the high quality of characters other than Arthur.
