'Black Lightning,' 'Life Sentence' Land CW Series Pickups; 'Originals,' 'iZombie' Renewed

The CW has firmed up the rest of its 2017-18 schedule, handing out renewals to bubble shows The Originals and iZombie, while also handing out series pickups to DC Comics drama Black Lightning and dramedy Life Sentence.

I'm thrilled about iZombie of course :D And I'm not surprised that The Originals has been picked up as well, a lot of people seemed to be assuming that it was as good as cancelled, but I always thought that the CW would want to transfer some TVD characters over to it and keep that franchise going.

I want to see Black Lightening too. Sounds so good. I am also looking forward to Ghosted which is X-Files'y. Also the Dynasty remake.

I quit The Original a season or 2 ago. It bored me.

Honestly I think I'm going to give up trying to get into DC shows lol, I tried with The Flash and Supergirl as so many people on my flist are really into those shows, but I've come to the conclusion that they're just not for me

I am thinking about giving TO a proper try sometime though, especially now that TVD has ended. I've only really watched the pilot for it so far, so I'd like to watch a few more episodes and see what I think

This is super excited! I love iZombie. I'm surprised that The Originals was picked up because I thought it was being canceled for sure lol.

I think that a lot of people were expecting it to be cancelled definitely, but I thought they would probably want to hang on to it as they're already losing TVD, Reign, No Tomorrow and Frequency this year (and I'm not sure about The 100?), and The Originals and iZombie getting 0.7 in the demo is pretty standard for non Superhero shows on the CW

The 100 was renewed a while ago. I think the same time some others were? Or maybe not with the others but I'm 100% sure it was renewed as we talked about it at the Con!

I am SUPER surprised about that. Especially since some of the actors - including Joseph Morgan - were cast for something else already, which - to me - was a strong hint that The Originals would be ending too. And the ratings suck as well, so yes, I AM surprised about it. But I guess they have to recast Joseph for that new role now, unless he can do both, but I doubt that... ;-)

Happy about iZOMBiE though =D

A lot of actors can do two shows nowadays because of the half season thing. If his other show doesn't have an overlapping shooting schedule, maybe he can do both.

ETA: I just checked and it looks like it was just a rumor that he was cast in that Stephen Moyer show.

I think he said something about just being there to read as a favour or something, I don't remember him being definitely confirmed casting? But yeah also if The Originals is only back for 13 episodes in the summer again, I guess it's not outside the realm of possibility that he could fit other shows with shortened seasons in as well?

Happy about both, which I'm surprised about because I wasn't happy with The Originals at the end of last season. I am surprised about its renewal since some of the actors were getting other jobs.

That's possible. These days actors have been able to do multiple tv projects. I believe the actor who plays Elijah had a regular role on another show in the first season. So I guess it depends on when those other roles start. Otherwise, the other projects will probably have to recast.

I'm happy about iZombie and also The Originals! Wasn't ready to say goodbye to either of those shows.

Same, I would rather the writers know in advance when iZombie is ending, so they can plan the final season out properly as a goodbye

Life Sentence sounds a bit like No Tomorrow. Isn't that on the CW as well?

It does sound a bit similar, and No Tomorrow was actually cancelled just recently, so I wonder how Life Sentence will do for them? It doesn't sound like it has the potential of being a break-out hit, more that it will be another of those kind of quirky shows like My Crazy Ex Girlfriend that have a really small but loyal audience, but the CW does seem to like shows like that I guess

I have so much to catch up to on iZombie. I didn't even know there was a third season... I think I'm somewhere by the end of the second... It says a lot, huh?

I love The Originals but thought season 3 was dragging and I had a harder time with that one. Not too sure why because the story was still kinda good... just... as a whole felt really different. IDK. I haven't started watching season 4 yet, to be honest but I will. I'm just marathoning my Alias DVDs at the moment. Possibly season 5 would be the last? We'll see.

It just stared up again a few weeks ago :) Definitely try and finish season 2 as soon as you can, I thought that it ended really strongly! If I'm honest I've not been blown away by the third season so far, it's more been just okay to me, but I really thought that the second season was great

I still need to watch any of The Originals past the pilot lol, I generally love vampire shows, so I'm sure that I can get into it if I give it a few episodes. It came along at a time when I was really burnt out on those characters on TVD though, so I just never ended up getting past the pilot at the time

It only gets better after the pilot but I'd say give it a couple episodes. Don't base it only on the pilot. The characters are all strongly made (and not even talking about the Original family) and I really like how different it is than TVD.

My crush is Elijah and I love the chemistry with a specific character, too. Totally out of nowhere in a way but just so awesome.

Anyway, not gonna spoil ya ;) :p

Really happy for both shows, but especially the originals. I kept seeing comments from people saying it was definitely done this year, but I figured they weren't going to just cancel it the same year TVD ended. I can see it possibly going for a couple more years - which is good bc I'm not ready to say goodbye to the Mikaelsons yet.

Yeah everyone seemed pretty sure that this was it for TO, but I always thought it would make more sense for them to continue it as TVD is already finishing this year. I've seen a lot of spec that they might be bringing Caroline and Alaric in for season 5

I'm behind on iZombie, but still excited to hear that news! :D I can't figure out why that show hangs on the bubble though, since it's amazing.

Yeah I don't get why iZombie is always seen as being on the bubble, it doesn't seem like it's doing that badly when you compare it to the rest of the CW line-up? And it definitely has a lot of fans and people praising it, but for some reason it's never seemed like a show that the CW is particularly excited about
