Okay I tried to post a link to the article "The CW Renews ALL 11 Series For Next Season, Including Veterans ‘Supernatural’ & ‘The Vampire Diaries’", but I kept being told that deadline is 'banned for spam' for some reason?

But anyway, awesome news! I was starting to worry about iZombie as so many people seemed convinced that the ratings were pretty terrible and it was at risk, so I'm pleasantly surprised that we're getting a third season. And I'm still here for The Vampire Diaries of course! Although I do hope that we will get confirmation on whether the 8th season is going to be the last or not, I'm not sure that it needs a 9th or 10th season, but I definitely wouldn't have been ready to let it go after this season when there's been no real build-up to it being the end

It feels strange that I only watch two CW shows these days actually, I used to watch four or five of their shows, but I'm not as into the superhero shows that they've been focusing on lately I suppose. Lol I know I'm too old for them these days, but I can't help wishing that they would bring back at least one high school focused teen show to their schedule, the WB and CW used to be known for those shows after all! Still I suppose that you can't really blame them for sticking with the male demo instead, those shows do seem to do a lot better for them ratings-wise

I keep thinking that I should try again with getting into that show as I do love TVD so much, and I'm normally a huge fan of vampire shows, it just never seems to draw me in idk. It's frustrating to feel like I'm missing out when TVD characters like Tyler or Stefan cross-over though!

I was happy and surprised to hear CW renewed everything! Though the shows I watch I wasn't all that worried about (except TVD a little, but was more concerned the cast wouldn't want to continue). I agree about TVD, I kinda hope it's the last only because I want them to know ahead of time so it feels like the final season, not just get cancelled last minute.

I love the superhero shows, but totally agree about needing another high school focused show! There used to be so many of them but now they seem non-existent.

I think those kind of shows have never done all that well ratings-wise, but it always felt like the WB, and then the CW, were happy to support shows like that for the sake of the younger demo, so it's a shame that they don't have even *one* equivalent to Gossip Girl, One Tree Hill, Dawson's Creek, etc these days. The bigger networks rarely pick up shows like that, so it always felt like a niche network like the WB/CW was the ideal platform for them, but not so much these days

And yeah I saw a lot of predictions that TVD would end this season, and that made sense as seven seasons is a good run, but it just never felt like the last season, so I hope they do get the chance to announce ahead of time when it is the end, that way they can work towards that all season and make it more nostalgic for the fans

Their more female-orientated shows like Jane The Virgin, Reign, and My Crazy Ex-Girlfriend seem to always do terribly in the ratings for some reason, so I guess we can't really be surprised that they want to keep spinning off the comic book shows and focus on Sci-Fi :( Still I don't know why they can't have even one high school based show on their network, that could easily bring them a lot of buzz if they approach it correctly, but their new pilots are again nearly all Sci-Fi concepts from what I remember

And I was so confused lol, since when does LJ worry about spam!

yay for iZombie! i was worried about it and had resigned myself to it being canceled.

I miss good high school dramas...I guess freeform formerly ABC Family has them but I don't enjoy their production values as much even if I do often like the heart of the shows.

I was confused with iZombie because I'd always thought that it was doing pretty well last year, but for season 2 I kept seeing so many comments about the ratings and how it wasn't a good sign that it didn't have a full season order, so I was starting to worry as well. I wonder if it'll be 18 episodes again, or 22 this time? Not that it really matters I suppose, I'm just as happy with 18, but it seems like a bit of an arbitrary number when most shows either have half seasons of 12/13 episodes, or full seasons of 22-24 episodes

Super surprised that everything was renewed, especially Reign, but as some people on ONTD pointed out, they're so close to syndication. They can finish things up with an abbreviated summer run like Beauty and the Beast did.

I watch the Flash and Arrow, although I'm behind, and I've been dvr'ing Legends of Tomorrow but not watched any yet. The only CW show I'm up to date on is iZombie. I love that show! It's so smart and fun.

Some sites get flagged as spam when you try to link them in a post, I find. Which is odd, but it's why I find other sources to link.

I can't help wishing that they would bring back at least one high school focused teen show to their schedule, the WB and CW used to be known for those shows after all!

I'm actually surprised there aren't more teen dramas, since those were incredibly popular, but it seems that most of those are on ABC Family Freeform now. CW is kind of an oddball since most of their programming and targeting a specific demographic. The only show I watch now on that place is Legends of Tomorrow. Other than that, I don't even know anymore.

Then again, I do miss the variety that the WB used to have back in the day, where it would be a wide range of programs from teen shows and other dramas to comedies and whatnot.

It's the first time that happened for me, so I was a bit confused *g*

And true, I remember hearing that the CW were originally offered PLL and turned it down, which surprised me because it's the sort of buzz worth teen drama (based on a book series with a pre-existing fanbase!) that you'd think they'd have been snapping up? They really seem to be going in a whole new direction lately, but it's a shame not to continue the WB's legacy when it comes to focusing on younger people :(

I wasn't expecting TVD to be cancelled as I think it's doing better ratings-wise for the CW than it gets credit for, but I did wonder if Ian and Paul would want to do any more and that might be why it ends, they never seem that keen on the show to me? At least they've both been quite critical of the later years, so I'm never sure if it's something that they want to keep doing

You know how people repost info from articles on LJ so people don't need to actually go to websites? Deadline threatened legal action a while back over their content being rehosted and not getting clicks. I guess disallowing the domain is helping them stay off their radar? Who knows. I tried to link dead line a few times because they were the only source for things, but still not allowed.

The AV Club also has an article about it, amusingly titled CW Says Screw It, Renews Everything.

So happy that iZombie has been renewed. That show doesn't get nearly as much recognition as it deserves.

I'm kinda on the fence about TVD. I have been so disinterested this entire season and was considering dropping it, but if the next season is it's last, I may as well just see it through.

Yeah I haven't been a big fan of this year either, the heretics turned out to be such a bore. I suppose that it was always going to be a tough transition year without Elena though, and Caroline's storyline wasn't a particularly gripping one either after Candice's pregnancy forced their hand. I'm hopeful that season 8 could still be good, although I would definitely rather they came in with a firm plan for it being the end, they probably don't need a 9th season!

Wow -- iZombie is doing worse by quite a bit than Agent Carter and yet I keep hearing that Agent Carter's future is not assured because of poor ratings.  I guess that's the difference between being on the CW and being on ABC.  Anyway, good news -- iZombie and the 100 are the only CW shows I watch, but I'm happy they'll be back.

Yeah CW seem to be the opposite of Fox when it comes to how safe shows are with them! I've read that apparently they always want shows to have some closure because a big part of their business model is selling shows to Netflix, so they need to make sure that all of their shows get proper endings to tie them up or Netflix won't be interested, people being less inclined to binge-watch if a story is known to be incomplete. That was apparently the reasoning behind Nikita getting a final season of six episodes, even though most people were expecting it to be cancelled after ratings fell to 0.2

I wish that more networks would follow that model actually, it sucks when a show that you really cared about ends with no closure

CW did basically the same thing last year, but it's still funny to see the entire lineup renewed - especially shows like crazy ex-girlfriend and reign that do absolutely terrible in the ratings.

I think it would be a good decision to end TVD next year, I'm only mildly enjoying this season - I very much prefer and am way more invested in The Originals ( S3 has been awesome). I kept hearing all these rumors that Ian wanted to leave TVD after this season too, but either they worked something out or he's still leaving and they are keeping it quiet.

Not sure if this show could stay interesting if they lose the Damon character along with already losing Elena bc while I did like the build up to the Stefan/Caroline relationship - they aren't working for me as a main couple. In fact, since they've gotten together it's like all their chemistry disappeared, I haven't the faintest idea what happened there. ( I get that once a couple gets together, it's natural that chemistry tones down a bit, but these two went from interesting to dullsville fairly quickly :/ )

edit: ok for some reason my comment originally posted to another comment on this post, no idea what happened there. lol

Interesting, I haven't heard those rumours, but Ian and Paul both always seem very over it in conventions, so I remember being surprised that Nina was ultimately the cast-member revealed to be leaving. Paul did say something about getting the chance to direct being an added incentive though, and presumedly Ian feels the same way? I can't see the show continuing without Damon, he's always been the show's main draw

And I know exactly what you mean, it's disappointing because the build-up to Steroline was beautifully done and I loved their first kiss, but they really have fallen flat this year. Maybe it's partly because of Caroline being pregnant for so much of the year, so it's hard to portray them as particularly passionate together? It's disappointing though because I was defending them from all the claims last year of them lacking romantic chemistry, but this year eh I have to admit that there's something missing

Yeah I love those kinds of shows that are *all* about the characters and focusing on their character development each season, and it's hard to find that much outside of the teen genre (maybe soap operas I guess?) Usually most shows will have another hook, so that you're following the characters more in whatever line of work they're in

One Tree Hill is probably one of the few high school shows that I haven't seen actually, but I was very into Dawson's Creek, The O.C, and Gossip Girl.

I was worried about iZombie, too. and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend tbh. Winning awards hasn't stopped networks from cancelling shows before. but I'm glad the CW is clinging to theirs XD

Yeah, I was really surprised they renewed some of those. The Originals was the one I was worried about since it's the lowest rated show I actually watch. (I think? I don't watch Crazy Ex and I dropped JtV, iZombie, and Reign.)

I definitely think next season of TVD needs to be the last. They've been struggling a lot this season, both creatively and in the ratings. They need to announce it's the final season and take a long time to come up with a decent final arc on which to go out. Though it's been quite a long time since they've had a truly decent show-wide arc.

I don't know if I'd want another high-school show but I do wish they'd shake up their programming a bit. I was hoping Containment would do well but they don't seem to have any faith in that given it's late start date and the fact that they're already billing it as an event series. I'd like to see them do another small-town drama like Hart of Dixie or another female-driven action show ala Nikita. Though both of those shows did awful, ratings-wise :)

I still watch quite a few CW shows. The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, TVD, The Originals, and up until recently, The 100. I may eventually finish out the season but I definitely won't stick around for season 4. Unless they get a new show-runner :)

I would definitely be here for another show like Nikita, I nearly always enjoy shows when it's the female character who's the one kicking ass. And yeah I agree with you on TVD, maybe season 8 will be an improvement though as they're obviously still having to deal with the ramifications of Elena leaving at the moment and Damon's struggles with that, season 8 could do better once they have more distance from her absence? The three year time jump did seem like a good way of dealing with that at first, but sadly it never really came together

I know I'm too old for them these days,

I'M sorry, but that's a bit of a lame excuse? I mean, I'm 32 and still love Superhero Shows, even though I'm not in the Superhero Genre at all, but I love Arrow and Flash and Legends of Tomorrow *shrugs* And that has nothing to do with the age in my eyes... but that's just my opinion!

It seems like the CW makes a lot of "strange" decisions lately, though, or doesn't care for ratins anymore, which is a good thing in some ways, because now I'm glad The Originals and iZOMBiE especially got renewed and a lot of my other shows alongside them, but I was worried about those 2 most... not sure about the survival or Reign, as those ratings are at aroun 0.2 - so I REALLY don't get it, but what do I care, right? :P

I worried about Jane the Virgin and The 100 (despite the mess that is happening right now) over everything else because the ratings aren't really there and yeah, the CW is very much into superhero stuff right now. My only problem with TVD is that I really miss it being focused on women now that Elena's no longer on the show. Though I always wanted it to be more about Elena, Caroline, and Bonnie's friendship than I think it ever was.

The Originals continues to do well at having the women having relationships outside of the men, like with Cami and Hayley lately.

I know what you mean, I am really invested in the Stefan/Damon brotherly relationship and am happy that it's getting focus, but there's definitely something missing now that Elena is gone. It feels like the show has shifted, that Stefan and Damon are very much the emotional focus now and the centre of the show, whereas before Elena, Bonnie, Caroline, Matt, Tyler, Jeremy as the core group of high school friends from Mystic Falls were also something that the show was centred around. And now the human connection isn't really there as much, Bonnie and Caroline's characters are more about how they connect with the lives of Damon and Stefan
