Give me a fandom and I'll give you, either in the comments or in a separate post, five unpopular opinions for that particular fandom.

Inserting myself. (hope you don't mind.)

So much yes to Caroline of S1. I hate that to so many people that they seem to have decided that there's a differnce personality wise between human Caroline and vampire Caroline. Becoming a vampire literally makes you become more of who you are personality wise. She's the same person she always was, and if she grew, its because of all the things that have happened, not because she became a vampire.

Also so much yes to the Matt. Matt is my Jimmy from Smallville (only AA was a better actor).

Insert away :)

And yeah, it seems like it's the popular view to dismiss season 1 Caroline and act like she was essentially worthless as a human, but all being a vampire did for her was make her physically stronger and more capable of kicking ass, she's still the same person. They even allude to that when she's first learning to be a vampire with Stefan and complaining that does being a vampire mean becoming a control freak on crack, those personality traits were always there if people only stop to look for them

The actor for Matt really is terrible, he always seems like he's delivering his lines between clenched teeth and he can never manage more than one expression (usually a pissed-off one!) I've no idea why the fandom seem to have decided that he's the heart of the show. Bonnie was self-righteous and played by a similarly one-note actress early on (to be fair she has improved a lot since then), and Bonnie got 10 times the hate for it, yet very little ever seemed to get said about Matt's permanent scowl!

Glad you don't mind. :D

Yeah, I hate that they seem to dismiss her or the people who say how they hated her when she was human but since she became a vampire she became so much more awesome. Its just like, are we watching the same show? Did you not pay attention to what was literally said? I don't understand. Caroline has grown, but she's also very similiar to who she was in S1, she's just been forced to grow up in a lot of ways, and that was already happening in S1 (Damon, Logan, Mystic Falls, etc), it wasn't like it happened just because the writers made it so.

I will never understand fandom's love of Matt. He remains the only human and I get that aspect, but personality wise, acting wise, his choices as a character/person....I just don't get why people like him. (Or ship him with people. He is a bad choice. Just because he doesn't go around killing people doesn't mean he's a good choice in dating. Just my opinion.)

And it's sad that Caroline herself has been made to feel that in a way, there's mentions of how she likes who she is now more and doesn't want to be human again, but being a vampire only made her physically stronger! It just seemed like characters like Damon started respecting her more once she could kick his ass, it was only then that they started to appreciate her more, and so that made her feel like being a vampire has significantly changed who she is

And idk, all I can think is that it's because Matt has been a pretty supportive friend to Elena and Jeremy, but still as a character in his own right he comes off as having a real chip on his shoulder IMO

From a story telling stand point its interesting to see someone pushed into this corner of believing that she somehow became something different/better when she became a vampire because of all hte people around her telling her so many times. Especially interesting because she turned into a vampire and usually its just the opposite, she became a monster but suddenly she became better. But in the character way of seeing it (and I am bias because Caroline has always been my favorite) I hate that she's bought into it. That its been said by so many people, so many times, that its altered how she sees herself. The only time that I truly thought it was true was ironically when Klaus who was soon to try to kill her, told her that she didn't want the cure becuase she liked being a vampire and what it represented. And in a lot of ways I can see her wanting the freedom/protection that being a vampire gives her. As a human, she was Damon's play thing, she was attacked by Logan, she was constantly surrounded by all this bad stuff, but no one told her. Once she was a vampire, that stopped, she was no longer a victim and she was no longer excluded. So that aspect of it, I can totally see Caroline on her own wanting those things.

I agree. Matt always seems very done with all the supernatural stuff that's happening, and yeah, okay, I get that. But then hang it up, your an adult now, leave Mystic Falls behind you. He actively chooses to stay despite his hatred of it all, and is happy to blame everyone else, or just Mystic Falls in general. But he never sees how he plays into it at times (as a human he made the decision to drug Elena and make her leave town which ultimately lead to her becoming a vampire, and I'm sure there are other examples).
