Merry Christmas to everyone who celebrates!!! :D I got some awesome presents, including the complete series of Nikita, The Vampire Diaries season 5, season 2 of Hannibal, and the new biography on Joss Whedon. And lots and lots of chocolate, feeling a bit sick at the moment after munching on too much of my toblerone :P
I absolutely enjoyed the multiple layers in "Last Christmas", especially the dawning realisation that the entire research station was a collective dream, I thought that was very well done. It was really unnerving how they kept realising that the dream was ongoing and their brains were still being eaten, especially when they were reading out passages from the instruction manual to say that "we are all dying", those crab monsters were some of the nastiest the show has had for a while now. I actually jumped at it dissolving on the bed near the end!
It was also fun how Chrismassy it all was with "Merry Christmas Everyone" playing during the "dance", as well as Santa and the elves of course! I loved all of the banter between Santa and the Doctor, especially the Doctor's face at Santa saying that the sleigh is bigger on the inside to fit in all the presents *g* And it was adorable to see the Twelfth Doctor having fun with the sleigh at the end, oh and Clara hugging him of course! :) I still love their whole dynamic in general, from the Doctor listening when Clara tells him to behave, to saying that Clara is the only one that he wants to hold hands with <3 And all of the jokes about the Doctor not being great at reading faces had a very sweet pay-off with the Doctor not being able to tell the difference between young and old Clara, aww.
And I'm so thrilled that Jenna is back for series 8! Heh for a minute there I did wonder if they were going to continue the series with Clara as an old lady, saving on the make-up costs by keeping her appearance the same in the Doctor's eyes, and just have everyone else reacting to her differently. But the ending that they went with made way more sense obviously *g* Apparently there's been some spec that Jenna was originally planning to leave, and the reversal at the end was a last-minute rewrite, although I'm not sure how much truth there is to that?
