Merry Christmas to everyone who celebrates!!! :D I got some awesome presents, including the complete series of Nikita, The Vampire Diaries season 5, season 2 of Hannibal, and the new biography on Joss Whedon. And lots and lots of chocolate, feeling a bit sick at the moment after munching on too much of my toblerone :P

I absolutely enjoyed the multiple layers in "Last Christmas", especially the dawning realisation that the entire research station was a collective dream, I thought that was very well done. It was really unnerving how they kept realising that the dream was ongoing and their brains were still being eaten, especially when they were reading out passages from the instruction manual to say that "we are all dying", those crab monsters were some of the nastiest the show has had for a while now. I actually jumped at it dissolving on the bed near the end!

It was also fun how Chrismassy it all was with "Merry Christmas Everyone" playing during the "dance", as well as Santa and the elves of course! I loved all of the banter between Santa and the Doctor, especially the Doctor's face at Santa saying that the sleigh is bigger on the inside to fit in all the presents *g* And it was adorable to see the Twelfth Doctor having fun with the sleigh at the end, oh and Clara hugging him of course! :) I still love their whole dynamic in general, from the Doctor listening when Clara tells him to behave, to saying that Clara is the only one that he wants to hold hands with <3 And all of the jokes about the Doctor not being great at reading faces had a very sweet pay-off with the Doctor not being able to tell the difference between young and old Clara, aww.

And I'm so thrilled that Jenna is back for series 8! Heh for a minute there I did wonder if they were going to continue the series with Clara as an old lady, saving on the make-up costs by keeping her appearance the same in the Doctor's eyes, and just have everyone else reacting to her differently. But the ending that they went with made way more sense obviously *g* Apparently there's been some spec that Jenna was originally planning to leave, and the reversal at the end was a last-minute rewrite, although I'm not sure how much truth there is to that?

Glad to hear you got some really nice presents for Christmas... :) I did too. And also happy to hear you had a nice time :)

The Christmas Special was absolutely awesome and I loved it so much. I don't know about Jenna and it being a last minute decision for her to stay, it's possible, but I'm damn glad she'll stick around for Season 9 :-)

I'm not sure now if Jenna's departure was ever seriously in question or not, they could have just encouraged the speculation to keep viewers guessing after 812 left things open-ended I suppose, but anyway it has now been confirmed that she will be appearing in all of series 9! :)

Happy Christmas! Doctor Who is my main Christmas activity, so I am so glad it was everything I wanted. :) Totally thrilled with Nick Frost—talk about being born to play a role—and his banter with Capaldi, and happy they were able to keep Coleman in a way that didn't cheapen the ending of the last series. Though if they'd written her out as it was rumoured they intended to, that also would have been amazing. But I love their chemistry so much that it'll be cool to see what she does with another series.

And so creepy. I know it's not an original idea, but the "what if this isn't reality" mindfuck, when done well, is definitely one of my squicks with horror, and this was done really well.

Yeah I think that Clara works really well with the Twelfth Doctor, and besides I've always preferred getting to stay with the same companion for more than just one series, so I'm happy! Although either 812, or the possible Xmas day ending, could also have been very moving endings if Jenna did wish to leave. (I am wondering what's going to happen with Danny and Clara's future generations from Listen now though, after 812 I was assuming that Clara was meant to be pregnant to end her time on the show, but I suppose that's unlikely now if she's going to be travelling with the Doctor again for another year?)

And definitely, I found it super-creepy when they were noticing the ache they were all experiencing, and it was slowly dawning on them that the research station wasn't real either

Lots of tv show seasons on dvd. :) I'm glad you enjoyed your Christmas.

You mean series 9? New upcoming season would be season 9. I kept thinking Christmas Special was going to be it (Jenna's last episode) but nothing else became of the speculation of her leaving.

I liked the episode.

Opps yeah, series 9! It feels strange to think that DW is that far along now, I keep thinking of the next series as series 8 still instead *g*

And yep, it was one of the best DW specials so far imo :)

Haha. I guess so. I'm glad Jenna will be sticking around for season 9. I wouldn't be surprised if she decided she'd leave after series 9.

Yeah. A bit scary but that's Steven Moffat for you. :)

Yeah she'll probably want to leave after series 9, none of the modern companions have been around for longer than two and a half seasons, and that would bring her in line with how long Amy and Rory stayed for

Yeah, that's what I figured. That if anything, she'll probably leave at the end of next series or sometime in series 9.

I loved the Xmas special which was a nice surprise because I often find them too sentimental - this one had just the right balance of scares and sweetness.

Very glad Clara is staying.

The Doctor trying to squirm out of Clara's hugs is one of my favourite ongoing themes from this season!

I enjoyed the Christmas special so much. I love the way the Doctor and Clara interact and seeing their mutual excitement as they rushed from her bedroom to the TARDIS at the end was so sweet to see. My boyfriend and I actually cheered when the subtitle came up saying she and the Doctor would be back next year.

The Doctor specifying that he'd only hold Clara's hand made me smile. And that beat at the end where he puts the crown on Old Clara's face and she becomes Young Clara again and he makes that comment about how she'll never grow old to him or what have you...I actually teared up. They're so good together.

I read something a week or two ago in which an anonymous BBC source said that Jenna originally intended to leave in the Christmas episode and they wrote an ending for her that involved her growing old and dying with the Doctor by her side or something. I'm not sure how accurate that report was, but for a moment last night, I was worried it was happening. And that I was going to blubber. The way he helped her with the Christmas cracker, the way Clara helped Old Eleven with the Christmas cracker in last year's holiday episode was such a nice touch.

The gooey sort of...mouth?...openings? in the dream crabs really disgusted me. They were pretty freaky little things and I loved when the Professor called them out on being like something from Alien. I sincerely hoped he was going to call out other things, like how everything was sort of like Inception or how the Doctor half-quoted Ghostbusters, I wanted this to be a running gag, but, eh, whatever. Still funny.

Ditto to most of what you said :D I was so happy at the end when they ran off hand in hand, and then the announcement that Jenna would be back for next series as well. And the crackers parallel was very sweet, I've already reblogged it on tumblr! (And heh also the Doctor's reaction to Alien sounding really offensive was reblogged as another favourite moment of mine)

The Twelfth Doctor has really started to click with Clara now, so I'm thrilled that they're going to continue for a little longer. And yeah I don't know how much truth there is, but supposedly tabloids were reporting it as that was the originally planned ending, and then they added in the second chance moment when plans changed

IT WAS THE FIRST XMAS SPECIAL I ENJOYED EVER???? AMAZING.

Clara/Twelve are every bit as much the unromantic soul mates that Amy and Eleven were but sans the mutual destructiveness of Amy and Eleven, ergo Clara/Twelve are possibly the best doctor/companion duo EVER. (I’M GOING THERE.)

And Jenna coming back for next season is my fave xmas present yet.

Same! Most of the Xmas specials feel a bit too idk out of step with the series, and so clearly meant to be enjoyed on Xmas day (I don't know if that even makes any sense lol) that I can't quite get into them in the same way, but this had such a nicely tense base under siege feel to it that made it feel like a really good proper episode, and not just an 'hey it's Xmas' celebration

And Clara and Twelve are making for the best Doctor/companion team for me as well <3

I really enjoyed Doctor Who- it was a lot better than most Christmas episodes! Usually they are terribly sentimental and schmoopy but this one was like a proper episode that just happened to be set at Christmas (like the Christmas Invasion). I was prepared for Clara to leave and thought they were going to do it when they showed her old, so I have mixed feelings about her staying. I was kind of hoping that the Doc would go and find Shona or Ashley to be his new companion instead!

Yeah I thought that, the only other Xmas episodes I really loved were The Christmas Invasion and The Snowman, but otherwise RTD's Xmas specials were generally too often inconsequential romps for my tastes, and Moffat's Xmas specials lean towards being schmoopy fairy tales. This felt like a nice mix of still bringing in the Christmas imagery, but making a nicely spooky episode at the same time

And Shona could have potential as a companion, but I am glad that they're keeping Clara around for a little bit longer!

Yeah Jenna didn't really confirm if she was staying or not, so I was watching the Xmas special assuming that they might be writing her out
