My spec is that the tragic event is Damon turning Elena. After the way they have copped out on character deaths this year I'm not sure I buy that they will kill a regular for good. And anyway who is really big enough to have that kind of huge impact in the finale episodes? There's been hints that even the big three aren't safe, so I feel like killing and turning Elena is the most likely way of them getting a cliffhanger big enough to compete with season 1's finale and the return of Katherine getting everyone talking. Plus it makes more sense to me for that to be the big point of conflict between Damon and Stefan, rather than Damon say suggesting killing someone else to protect Elena and Stefan being horrified at that. I think that Stefan might outwardly protest, but deep down he would agree with Damon about doing anything to keep Elena safe. But killing Elena at 17 and turning her into a vampire would be a huge issue for Stefan, and could also lead into a lot of potential storylines for season 3 such as the triangle heating up with vampire Elena growing closer to Damon perhaps?

People say it's way too soon for vampire Elena, but this is TVD and they do tend to speed through their plots. Also I suspect that Katherine is going to be killed at the end of the year (too much to ask Nina to carry off two roles for another season), and that leaves the way open for Nina to play vampire Elena without worrying about differentiating between Elena and Katherine so much

Especially as they still have that dangling plot thread with his mother from season 1's deleted scene.

I don't think I saw a deleted scene! What's the dangling plot thread? They seemed to have run out of things for Matt to do this season, which is why I wouldn't be surprised to see him die, but I'm all for more Matt, as long as it doesn't involve him and Caroline dithering over whether or not they should date, lol.

There was the implication that his mother is a succubus

And I'm not a big fan of Matt because I feel like inserting him into Tyler and Caroline's much more interesting storyline just dragged it all down to the level of a triangle that they didn't really need, just to give Matt something to do. I feel like I should like Matt because he has had a tragic life, and his motivations do make sense, but honestly I'm really not a fan of the actors line readings, so I've not been able to sympathize with him much

Huh. I'm not sure how I feel about that.

Haha, but I felt the opposite about Matt/Caroline/Tyler. I think Matt's adorable and kind of only tolerate Tyler because his storyline showed how awesome my girl is. :) I liked Caroline and Tyler as friends, mostly, but I didn't want to see them as a couple, so I was annoyed that Tyler dragged it down to a love triangle. :)

Huh. I'm not sure how I feel about that.

Idk if they are planning on bringing it back in or not, apparently they dropped it because they didn't wat to introduce more supernatural at that stage. They might be saving it for future plots, but then the actress is on Nikita now so I'm not sure if that would work

I liked Matt more in the beginning, but there is something about the actor that makes his line readings come off as so condescending to me. And even when he's got decent motivations, like when he's bringing up Vicky in his initial confrontation with Caroline, or when he's saying he's all alone now, there is just something whiny and annoying there. I can't really explain it any better than that tbh, I just know it bugs me *g* Maybe it's that he sounds permanently annoyed, like :long-suffering sigh: "Why is everyone putting me out all the time"

I was really rooting for him and Caroline at first when they were hanging out in her room and kissing at the dance, but the second half of season 1 ruined them for me
