I do own an ipod, but to be honest I'm getting kind of frustrated with having to rely on Wi-Fi, I can never seem to get a connection with it. I want to be able to check my email at work or in town, and it always seems to come up as no available connection :/

I've been thinking about maybe getting something else, but I'm torn between:

Samsung Galaxy It seems to get great reviews, and it will aparently play any media file (whereas all of my favourite video's on youtube can't be played on ipod boo)

iphone Which I'm leaning towards the most just cause it sounds really cool heh

Or ipad Idk it seems a bit bulky to carry around, but when it comes to internet browsing I'm not a big fan of squinting at a small screen so it might be better in that respect...

Anyone on my flist own any of them, and what are you thoughts on which would be worth buying?

I vote iPhone. I have an iphone 3gs and i love it. There's also a Youtube app that you can watch videos on.

That is the one appealed to me the most too *g* I was just kind of undecided after reading all the reviews raving about how Samsung Galaxy is better.

With iphone aren't there restrictions on a lot of youtube video's? That's what reviews were saying

I've had the phone for almost a year now and I've only had 2 vids it wouldn't play. I honestly have no experience with the Samsung Galaxy. My old phone was a Samsung eternity and it gave me nothing but issues, but it was an older phone

I'm in exactly the same dilemma. I want a new phone anyway, so the iPad is out, but between the iPhone and an Android phone, I'm confused. I already have an iPod Touch, which is pretty much an iPhone minus the phone features, and an Android phone has pretty much all the Apps an iPhone does, but the iPhone seems to have better reviews in terms of touch screen stability. IDK IDK. Let me know what you decide! ;)

Yeah I love my ipod otherwise, but it's really frustrating how so many of the features rely on available wi-fi. Stuff like checking weather, checking e-mail, checking maps, all very well if you can actually get on-line to access them... I don't know why it doesn't come across more as an annoyance for people LOL. I can NEVER seem to get a connection

I mostly just use it for watching tv and for listening to music, it's just lately I find myself wanting to get something with 3G so I can surf the web as well

Exaaaaactly! The iPod is just an mp3 player without wi-fi. And the times I usually want to use the Apps are when I'm travelling, which is when access to wi-fi is the most difficult.

I don't know whether I'd like surfing the web on a screen as small as the iPhone's, but I would love to be able to work the Apps, because most of them are really convenient.

And the reviews talking about iPod never seem to mention Wi-Fi as a problem, I just don't get how it's not a problem for more people!

It seems like it would be most useful say in an airport or library I guess, but sometimes I just want to check my email on the bus or a cafe or y'know wherever I feel like going on-line and nope, no signal for you.

I did find it hard to get used to the internet on such a small screen, but maybe I gave up too quickly because I could basically only get a signal with it at home anyway, and I'd rather just go on my laptop in that case than fiddle around with the ipod

ETA The size of the screen works fine for me for watching tv and music video's, which I didn't think it would, so going on-line with it would probably have been something I could have got used too as well. If y'know I could actually get on-line :P

The iPads are supposed to be great, but they are considerably more expensive than your other options.

I'm trying to decide between an iPhone or an Android, myself; my contract is up in March. My husband got a Blackberry, but that's because he didn't want to wait 'til the contract had run and had to get the best deal he could.

The iPad did sound intriguing, but what put me off a bit was the thought that I may as well just buy a new laptop if I'm going to get that. It doesn't seem very practical for carrying around with me, although I suppose it could be cool for something to use at home

I admit it, I am an apple addict. I have both the iphone 4 and the ipad. The iphone4 is awesome and if you're into reading onscreen, it's surprisingly great for the size. The IPad I mostly use at home. It's great for travel and I use it as my main ebook reader, but for your purposes - iphone4 all the way.

Nice icon!

And yeah the iPad seems like something that would be more practical for home use owning to its size, not to mention I would be scared to death of it getting stolen or broken at the amount that it costs!

I always feel like maybe I'm being a little too self-indulgent in getting those things though hee, because I can see how they would come in really handy for travelling, but I hardly ever go on any long journey's so I probably don't get as much use out of them as I could. But I wants them anyway :P

I know nothing about the iPhone, but I just bought the Samsung Galaxy S's cheap little brother, the Samsung Galaxy Apollo, and I love the way everything just works. I can take the SD-card out of the phone and do file management on my computer, too. That's more convenient than you might think, since I hate most of the available synch software.

The fact of the file management? Or the Galaxy Apollo? Or were you thinking about the Galaxy Tab? (There are way too many Samsung Galaxy phones...)

As far as I'm aware, the main distinction between the Galaxy S and the iPhone4 is the fact that one is Android, the other is iOS. And maybe the taking out of the SD card to do file management on the computer.

The Samsung Galaxy Apollo I have most certainly does not have a bigger screen than the iPhone -- that's one of the reasons it's so (relatively) cheap.

The Galaxy tab seems like an inbetween solution between a Galaxy S and an iPad. It looks nifty, but I'm not sure it'd actually be useful.

I say go for the iPhone! Browsing the internet on the small screen really isn't that bad, truly. Even when I'm at home and my computer is feet away, I like to sometimes sit in my comfy chair and read twop threads on my phone and I don't need to squint at all! And it's a LIFESAVER when I go in for my weekly treatment at the hospital, I'd be bored to death without that thing. (Oh now I'm just starting to sound like a technology addict lol) I've nearly always got 3G too (like 99% of the time).

I know that the internet/email is most important in your decision making (and I don't know what you can get on the Galaxy) but I also love all the apps you can get (and by apps, I mean gaaames, lots of gaaames!). If you're into that, of course. :D

I have an iPad. It's great for watching movies, showing photos etc. I don't like it as much for web browsing as there are so many sites that it just has annoying bugs with - for instance, typing in the search bar of a web site just does not work and log in on certain sites have the same issue. I continue to use my laptop 95% of the time. If I had to do it over again, I think I would buy a 13" macbook instead.

iPhone - don't have one. AT and T in the my area + the iPhone is grim for making calls. I end up loaning my verizon blackberry to people that actually need to make a phone call. I'm waiting to see what the experience is with the Verizon iPhone.

Thanks, that was really helpful!

The ipad does appeal to me, but I guess the price tag is what makes me keep hesitating and ask myself if it's really something that's gonna be all that necessary, especially if I'm going to buy the ipone (which will be more useful to take around with me) and so won't really need both. But at the same time I would love to own one if only it wasn't so expensive *g* It just seems like it would be a bit of an indulgence but I don't know.

Yup, I websurf, twitter, facebook, email with it. Also I watch videos, use it as my alarm clock (it wakes me up with podcasts!), etc.

And yeah I am leaning towards iPhone at the moment. iPod is all very well, but remember when we were lost and of course you can't use the map feature or the internet unless you actually have available wi-fi nearby, which isn't really that useful! And stupid unhelpful bus driver :P

i am obsessed with my iphone. and i NEVER wanted one to begin with.

and while i HATE AT&T...

so i use my ipod ALL the time. on the bus, my workouts etc. and it's nice to have it all in one easily transported thing. the camera was also the other reason i switched. i hated having to lug around both my phone and my camera when going out. the camera's not amazing...but it's very nice. it takes decent pics and video.

and of course...twitter, facebook, my email (2 personal and my work account!)

i've fallen in love. begrudgingly. :)

Like I was saying above, my ipod has a lot of those features like being able to check email, but having to rely on wi-fi hasn't made it very useful for me. I would sooner just get an iphone at this point, and take out a contract for it.

Do you find it easy to check livejournal on your iphone? I found it a bit fiddly when I was trying it out on my ipod, but it might have been that I just didn't give myself enough time to get used to it

And yeah I find that with my ipod, I don't know if it's just bad luck but none of my 26 favoured youtube video's will play on my ipod :/ That's the only thing that makes me question getting an iphone really though

How do you know which appls and games to d/l? I've been a bit non-adventurous so far with what games I d/l, so I'd love if you have any recs :) I used to love playing comp games when I was younger, but these days I'm kind of just stuck on tetris and bejeweled which get a bit monotonous after a while...

Lol I love Bejewelled, I've downloaded over 80 games and that is still one of my favourites!

Some of my other favourite games are: Touch Pets, Angry Birds. Dexter the game, Solitaire City, Surfacer+, Drop7, WS: Aurora, Flood It, Zen Bound, Cut the Rope, Farmville,I like a couple of the games in Gamebox 1 and I downloaded some megadrive games I used to play too, like Sonic and Earthworm Jim but I haven't played on them much as I find the controls a bit fiddly.

I've sometimes googled for recommended apps or otherwise I just search through the top rated apps in the app store. I've gone a bit mad downloading apps really as I've just checked and I have 169 apps downloaded lol.

I don't know, I probably won't get anything until next year anyway because I only brought my ipod last may, so it feels like a bit of a waste to replace it already. I'm thinking next year is the time to buy, I'm just spending a lot of time weighing up my options!
