I bet they'll attract some fans of the original show and some teens too and probably a fair dose of other people. I'll see it. It bothers me a lot less than Joss's comics, because it's a rreboot rather than an attempt to fit a false Buffy into the same canon as the real Buffy, which is what Joss is trying to do. I'm actually kind of pissed off with Buffy fandom for being more bothered about this than about the comics. This reboot doesn't threaten the original Buffy at all. The comics do.

That's true, although I do think that a lot of people have been bothered about the comics as well. But to be honest I think they're just less high-profile, many casual fans are not even aware of them, whereas a new Buffy movie being produced will get a lot more publicity, there's already been several articles on it.

I'm not as outraged about it as some are, it more just seems a bit pointless to me. Especially if they can only take elements from the original film (as I heard something about them not owning the rights to anything from the tv series?) So I don't see how they can make a success out of that when it's based on a film that never did well in the first place

A lot of people have been bothered by the comics, but they still sell. And wikipedia's entry still calls them canon. I'm getting an impression of wider unproar about the film.

I just did an entry about it.

I wonder if a lot of the angry reactions are in part disappointment because people wanted a Buffy film with characters from the tv series, so this feels like kind of an insult to spin-off from the original film when it wasn't anything like the same hit

I mean they're basically cashing in on the Buffy name because the tv show made it such a cult thing, yet it's the original movie that will get the reboot treatment

Well, I don't want a Buffy movie with the original cast, because Joss would use it as an excuse to fuck up the Buffyverse even more. Past season 6 of Buffy it seemed to me he could't do anything with the Buffyverse without fucking it up. And I'd be terrified he'd drag the comics shit into the movie. The last thing I want is a Buffy movie based on the tv show.

I've just heard that Candice (Caroline from The Vampire Diaries) might be considered for the Buffy role

Heh, you're welcome I think? :P

And Candice is actually doing a really good job with a more kickass vampire Caroline in TVD at the moment, but she seems a bit young to play Buffy if it's not going to be high school focused?

I don't buy her as capable of being able to do a warrior character. Plus I find her performances shallow. I'll really be pissed off if they pick her. As it is, they'll probably pick someone wrong. Screwed up attitudes about women cause female characters to be miscast a lot of the time.
