Hee, I noticed that Joss and Whedon were trending seperately even

It pisses me off how she assumes all Buffy fans love Joss Whedon. Many don't, all the more so after the porno issue of the comic. Seriously, Buffy needs to be taken away from Joss Whedon. There should be a legal ban on him doing Buffy stuff. He just fucks up the Buffyverse (incredibly so in his comic). But Buffy without Gellar is not Buffy.

I do still like Joss, but it's definitely recasting Buffy that makes me the most uncomfortable. I don't understand why they don't just reboot the franchise properly and introduce a new slayer if they want to do a fresh take on it. That makes the most business sense to me as then fans of Bts might be more inclined to check it out than if it's just recasting Buffy

I think they figure the name Buffy is iconic and famous, so they want to go with that.

Personally I hate Joss's guts with a passion.

I could tell ;)

And I think it's a mistake to go with the Buffy name because all of the people that avoided the tv show because of the name, how inclined are they going to be to check out a Buffy film? And most of the fans of the tv series are really pissed, so they're not likely to see it either...

And "it's not your high school Buffy" makes it sound like there's not much chance of attracting the younger teens/Twilight fans either

I bet they'll attract some fans of the original show and some teens too and probably a fair dose of other people. I'll see it. It bothers me a lot less than Joss's comics, because it's a rreboot rather than an attempt to fit a false Buffy into the same canon as the real Buffy, which is what Joss is trying to do. I'm actually kind of pissed off with Buffy fandom for being more bothered about this than about the comics. This reboot doesn't threaten the original Buffy at all. The comics do.

That's true, although I do think that a lot of people have been bothered about the comics as well. But to be honest I think they're just less high-profile, many casual fans are not even aware of them, whereas a new Buffy movie being produced will get a lot more publicity, there's already been several articles on it.

I'm not as outraged about it as some are, it more just seems a bit pointless to me. Especially if they can only take elements from the original film (as I heard something about them not owning the rights to anything from the tv series?) So I don't see how they can make a success out of that when it's based on a film that never did well in the first place

A lot of people have been bothered by the comics, but they still sell. And wikipedia's entry still calls them canon. I'm getting an impression of wider unproar about the film.

I just did an entry about it.

I wonder if a lot of the angry reactions are in part disappointment because people wanted a Buffy film with characters from the tv series, so this feels like kind of an insult to spin-off from the original film when it wasn't anything like the same hit

I mean they're basically cashing in on the Buffy name because the tv show made it such a cult thing, yet it's the original movie that will get the reboot treatment

Well, I don't want a Buffy movie with the original cast, because Joss would use it as an excuse to fuck up the Buffyverse even more. Past season 6 of Buffy it seemed to me he could't do anything with the Buffyverse without fucking it up. And I'd be terrified he'd drag the comics shit into the movie. The last thing I want is a Buffy movie based on the tv show.

Heh, you're welcome I think? :P

And Candice is actually doing a really good job with a more kickass vampire Caroline in TVD at the moment, but she seems a bit young to play Buffy if it's not going to be high school focused?

I don't buy her as capable of being able to do a warrior character. Plus I find her performances shallow. I'll really be pissed off if they pick her. As it is, they'll probably pick someone wrong. Screwed up attitudes about women cause female characters to be miscast a lot of the time.

I'm totally uninterested in a reboot.

I can't say anything about the comics - I honestly never read them.

I only really wanted a final movie or multi ep ender for the show once both Buffy and Angel were off the air, but that's become impossible. I never wanted the universe to keep going. I wanted an awesome payoff.

I've heard some stuff about the comics from my flist, but yeah I've never read them either. I do think it's unfortunate that so much importance is placed on them being canon when the stuff happening in them doesn't fit with the tv series at all half the time (ie Buffy flying)

And Giant!Dawn. Once a friend told me about that, I pretty much made my mind right up never to read them.

I'm not a fan of the idea of them doing a bunch of things that wouldn't/couldn't have happened on the show - the comic is based on the show - it should respect the show's universe.

Yeah IA, if it's a continuation of the show than it should be based on how a real season 8 would have gone, not weird wish fulfillment

Joss always said that working with a budget actually helped make the show better as he was forced to think up more creative storylines than just throwing a lot of flashy stunts at it
