I found this vid from a link on an American Gothic community, it's great!

AG is one of my top 5 tv shows of all time. Seen by few people (definitely 'cult tv'!), cancelled way too soon and before it's time IMO. 14year old me lapped up every minute of it!! I just got the DVDs and watching it made me think of BtVS. AG is about as dark and twisted as you can get yet never gets as moribund or preachy as the later Buffy seasons.

I'm actually glad AG happened before online fandoms really took off, maybe it would have saved the show but I can imagine all kinds of crazy shipper wars given the convulted relationships *and* insano controversy when Gail sleeps with Lucas who *gasp* is clearly eeevil and may have raped her Aunt. Not only that but Gail is in love with him by the end and even comes round to the idea of having his probably demonic child. Really spuffy compared to that is pretty tame!

Aww, I loved that show! I was watching on channel four and I remember loving it soo much. I totally freaked out when I thought Lucas was dead, and started crying :P Then I checked the Radio Times, and realise there was one more episode!

I was totally unfamiliar with spoilers at that time, so I was constantly shocked by what was going on. Lucas always felt like a really dubious character to be so into, but what the heck *g*

Thanks for commenting on the video! :)

Lucas is so totally amoral but Gary Cole just played him with such humour that I never knew what to think! I remember at times *hating* him so much especially near the beginning and wanting Dr Matt and Gail to take him down.

Then other times his assertiveness, and I guess just the power he had to always get his way would be totally hot. Also there was some kind of twisted fairness to what he did coz generally his manipulation only worked because of other people's greed/vanity etc..His deals were a bit Godfather-like and if Mafia characters can be alluring it makes sense that Buck can be too! The way he could be at times with Caleb, Gail and Ben showed a loyal side at least, though they were all people he needed something from. I think the finale was so great because when you see how charmless and entirely psychotic Caleb becomes it makes you want Lucas back who at least did the evil thing with a bit of style and cool detachment. It's the best thing about AG, everything gets turned on it's head and none of the characters are wholly bad or good at all times.

Wow this is long! Like I said thank god there was no online fandom for AG or I may have lost a year debating every last detail like I did with Buffy S6!!

I always liked his loyalty to Ben. It would crack me up sometimes how useless he saw Ben has, "You can come out from behind that tree now, Ben". But like the thing with Artie, Lucas really came through for him and made sure Ben got the credit. Aww

And agreed on the finale. You were just willing Lucas to come save Gail *g*

I loved your Possession vid. Became a fan of AG in 1995. Adored Gary Cole's take on Lucas. Found your vid link on AG site. If you're ever in the mood, could you do another one with those two unlikely lovers?

I recently bought the series on dvd and saw Ring of Fire for the first time. I'm glad I found out the correct order for viewing the episodes. Ring of Fire made Lucas/Gail much more believable.

AG is one of my all time favorite tv series. Thanks for giving us Possession.

I love Ring Of Fire. I can't understand why America wouldn't have aired it. Lucas and Gail were the main couple being promoted, and that was a really important episode for them

I suspect that Ring of Fire was considered a problem by CBS (the family friendly network) because of the sexuality -- it's pretty clear what Gail is feeling as Lucas applies pressure to her fingers during his attempts to show her what happened to Christine and Peter the night of the fire. The U.S. has always been a sexual prude (in spite of evidence to the contrary).

In addition we learn that Christine has committed adultery and is pregnant by Gage Temple. Gail's big O and Christine's pregnancy probably awoke fears of a censorship crackdown on the network. Plus they didn't want to offend their targeted audience -- which makes their showing AG at all something of an aberration. It was entirely too adult for the network.

In America you're allowed to view all kinds of violence but heaven forbid you get some honest sexuality. Just my opinion.

That makes sense. I did hear that originally Lucas and Selena would be brother and sister, and the network refused to allow it

Shaun Cassidy pushed the envelope as far as he could in 1995-96 in regards to presenting human sexuality in a semi-realistic way. I read in an article that Cole and Bakke (Lucas and Selena) carried the brother/sister idea to the producers but the idea was nixed. I'm glad in a sense they did decide not to go there because CBS might have pulled the plug on the show much quicker otherwise. As it is, we have one nearly perfect season of episodes which were allowed a "conclusion" to end the series much like a movie ends.

I'm grateful for what we got.
