So I'm behind everyone else as usual, but apparently The Mirror had this article

DR Where

IT'S daleks at dawn over in Tardis-land, where Christopher Eccleston is
mysteriously absent from the extra features on the DVD of the first series of
Doctor Who.

His failure to record a chat is all the more surprising when you consider
that everyone else managed it. There's Billie Piper, who plays Rose Tyler, John
Barrowman (Captain Jack) and executive producer Russell T Davies.

Even Simon Callow and Bruno Langley, who only appeared in one episode, share
their thoughts. But Eccleston? 'Fraid not.

His agent and the BBC won't comment. But we reckon Chris was miffed with
Beeb bosses after news leaked out early that he'd quit after one series

Urgh. So basically punishing the fans because he's annoyed with the BBC? It's not like he has the sort of filming schedule that US tv shows have. Doctor Who only has 13 episodes a season, surely he could have spared some time for an interview for the DVDs at least :/

David Tennent (sp?) sounds like a big fan of DW anyway :D

And could the slowness of my DVD ripping be something to do with my crappy comp, or shouldn't that make a difference?

I've been in trouble with fans for saying this, but my sympathy for Eccleston's tough filming schedule is almost precisely 0.

I'm beginning to think they'd have been better off hiring someone keen in the first place and risk the lack of publicity that Eccleston brought.

Yep :D

I've got no complaints about his actual performance, but he must have known that a role like that involves DVD commentary/stupid jokes on "Top Gear"/unconvincing dolls/etc etc. Patrick Stewart never complained about that side of it.

Hee. Well like I said I'm always out of the loop anyway. But a while back someone on my flist said that CE was kind of funny about conventions and things, and seemed to prefer gritty dramas, as opposed to entertaining DW fans that he finds a little strange.

It's fine for him to be like that, but I just wonder if they were right to go for a good-but-not-keen actor. I saw his interview with Jonathan Ross just before the series started and it was really uncomfortable to watch. He looked embarrassed. What did he think the part would involve?

I have a suspicion that Tennant will have to be dragged away from convention stages with a large hook. Mind you, Colin Baker was keen too, and that didn't work out.

Hey, did you get medical attention for the green knee stuff yet? It doesn't matter if the green seems to vanish. The fact that it was there ever is really bad sign that deserves medical attention.

Oh I figured out it was putting bandages on it that produced green gunge. So I left it overnight and no more green :D It's just kind of sticky and red from the patch of skin missing

Are you sure? You've got an entry saying it's still green.

Heya :) Here's my two-pennoth on CE and the DVDs (or something) ;)

DT *is* a massive fan, definitely. He's even been involved with the audio stuff that was done before DW came back to the telly.

But Eccleston - ahh, I can't knock him. The guy was just so good as the Doctor, he put so much into that part, I don't mind what he does now, after the fact. He's done his job, which was to play the Doctor for the time he was paid for. Tom Baker was the same - you didn't mention Doctor Who to him for at *least* the first ten years after he quit, unless you wanted to get into his bad books.

Nowadays TB loves the fact he was the Doctor, and the whole convention scene.

Eccleston never looked comfortable with the fan/convention thing - and I can see that. And it shouldn't prevent actors from taking on a role, IMO. That said, I'm a bit disappointed he didn't want to talk about his performances on the DVDs (especially as he seems to be narrating just about every other documentary on Channel Four atm, just to make me think about it more ;) ) But then I remember what he said in one of the specials that ran, either a Confidential or one of the things they showed just before the last episode - that he didn't go all-out Stanislavsky on the Doctor - he showed up, did his thing, and that was that. So he probably doesn't see that there's much for him to say.

Dammit, he's a very loveable guy. Hidden shallows, apparently ;) And he strikes me as modest to the point of argh.
