I've just joined http://www.livejournal.com/userinfo.bml?user=the_smidge

There's pics of SMG from the ABC party. Doesn't she just make the most beautiful brunette!

There's a RPS essay here I know there was a lot of debate over it on CDS recently, so if anyone's interested in reading it :) Someone on k-site today was saying RPS is almost like raping the actors. Okaaay.

And next SV episodes. Got up to Relic today, I'm on a roll now.

Extinction. Better than I remembered. It had a lot of continuity references! I know A&M think it turned out really well. I liked that they kept some continuity with Clark coming back to work on the paper (sweet scene). And the joking about everyone stalking Lana, and her having her own stalker website heh.

I thought it was interesting that Clark from the first insists that Jake's not the weird one, and is perhaps overidentifying, being that Jake had just tried to kill Lana. Lana's prejudice was a realistic character trait being that she had been targeted by them so much. Clark certainly didn't appreciate hearing the fish gills be called disgusting... But then the ending with Lana saying it would be okay if Clark was a meteor freak. Hmm, I suppose that's why TW is always saying Lana is the one person who would accept Clark without question.

Chloe's moment of guilt and realising the power the press had was good. And I loved Lionel threatening her if she investigates Lex again. Why did his face fall when Lex pointed out he had never been sick though? What am I missing there?

I love the Luther scenes, they did a good job of following through on that plot. Lex looks good in a suit! And Clark being shot and the Kent's getting the bullet out gets a big aww from me. Lex's speculation that he's a freak is quite interesting, although I don't think they ever did much with that did they? At TWoP it was seen as onimous at the time that Lex was no longer seeing Clark as his saviour, but looking inside himself.

Slumber. Again liking the Luther scenes. And I didn't mind the dream clana when they were skinny-dipping. I notice Clark's "dream girl" was blatently checking out his body at the lake, and then being very casual about him ditching her. Clark obviously has a desire for clana without the angst.

Perry. Love that episode! Perry could have become very annoying if they used him in a number of episodes. Knowing the SV writers, he would have been drunk and directionless for many episodes. Instead we see character progression in just the one episode, and it leaves us wanting more. Fantastic. I love Clark's adjusting to his new powers (tractor moment!) And the hints that Lex has been left slightly unbalanced from his time on the island. Ooh and I noticed both Slumber and Perry had the guest stars mistaking Lana for Clark's gf, already letting the audience know the writers weren't ready to let go.

The talk with Clana in the barn came across as slightly creepy with Lana talking about telling her parents at the grave that she replaced Clark with them 0_0 I love the ending with Perry though.

Relic. Well I like this episode, even if most people seem to hate it *g* I always love flashes back to the past, TW looked so good! It was something different anyway, and loved the ending with Clark catching the mayor out by convincing him he was Jor-El's ghost. And tying in to the Kent's with them having been chosen for Clark's parents.

I wondered at the "drifter" though. Why didn't Jor-El prove he existed, take the blame, and then nip off back to krypton before they could take action against him? Yeah not very fair on Jor-El, but poor old Joe not only had Louise cheating on him, he spends 40 years imprisoned for her murder. A bit of concern for him might have been nice. Why didn't the Kent's speak up in Joe's defence and say that the drifter was real?

And does anyone else have that unauthorised guide to Buffy and really disagree with it? I swear it's like TWoP viewers in book form. First three seasons can do no wrong. Starts slipping in season 4, and every season gets worse. The term "jump the shark" is used all the time. Oh and apparently Bear Bad is a better episode than Fear Itself, Selfless? Nightmares was the only episode of season 1 not worth watching. (Nightmares was one of the best season 1 episodes!) And even when the earlier seasons are criticised, i.e Beauty And The Beasts wasn't good, they add that it cannot be classified as truly bad because it's from the first three seasons when Buffy never fails to entertain.

All it does is shit all over the last four seasons (esp seasons 5-7). I don't buy a fan guide for Buffy to read all that. It's disapointing because the episode guides are well put together, and it follows the characters through each episode. But then the reviews descends into bile :/ I mean I understand people preferring different seasons. I just didn't expect a published book for Buffy fans to be quite so negative and harsh. Oh well.

After I've finished with SV season 3, I'm thinking of watching season 6 and 7 of Buffy. I got those DVDs fairly recently, and have hardly watched them in comparision to seasons 1-5. Season 1 is by far my least favourite, but I generally like to watch Bts in order, so I've seen some of those early episodes a billian times it feels like.

That's an adorable picture of SMG!

Which one is it? The best published Buffy guides I've read are the ones by Keith Topping. I don't agree with him every time (if I remember correctly, he likes AYW!), but he's consistently fair and he loves the series from beginning to end.

I have them all *g* I think the negative one is called Dusted. Usually they're far more positve. I mean the ones that gush over every episode are annoying as well, I like some criticism, but there is a balance.

And I love Keith Topping's guides!

SMG does look better as a brunette.

"Oh and apparently Bear Bad is a better episode than Fear Itself, Selfless?"

??? I guess it is .... in an "I want mindless, slap-stickesque entertainment" type-way. Yes, I also love Nightmares.

"And even when the earlier seasons are criticised, i.e Beauty And The Beasts wasn't good, they add that it cannot be classified as truly bad because it's from the first three seasons when Buffy never fails to entertain."

They actually say that? Sheesh.

I understand people have different opinions, too. But my gosh, the first seasons of BtVS were so juvenile and vanilla. Glad Cordelia was there to break the ice in a melodramatic teen angst moment. I mean it was still well-written and one of the best ideas ever and even at times better executed than the last 2 seasons, but that is just how I see it.

Yeah, something like at this stage no Buffy episodes are truly bad until the later seasons. Ridiculous.
