One of her friends was commenting on the hive mentality on lj, and how we're all scared of being defriended or fandom wanked *g* So, here are my unpopular fandom opinions:
1. I've never watched any Star Wars. Or Star Trek for that matter. I have no desire to watch either.
2. I liked Dawn and Conner.
3. I think SMG is an incredible actress, who made me feel for Buffy right up until the end. I await my banning from Sparklies now, according to JesseW if you don't hate SMG, you're not a Sparklie ;)
4. I liked Cordelia in season 4.
5. I don't think Jonathon Kent is a salt of the earth person upon which all moral standards should be measured. In fact I don't think Jonathon is a good person at all.
6. I'm not a Harry Potter fan.
7. I have never read or watched Lord Of the Rings.
8. I prefer Beecher to Keller. Most people find Keller hotter, not me (although he's hot too, don't want to do the man a disservice).
9. I liked Doublemeat Palace.
10. I like Stark. He's cute and funny, and totally not annoying!
11. I think Zhann was way too smug. You wanna talk about an annoying character...

Date: 2004-10-23 04:03 pm (UTC)Yeah well this Sparklie likes her also. I don't love her but I like her.
Star Trek bores me; Star Wars I only enjoyed the first film and The Empire Strikes Back.
I was fond of Dawn, especially in her scenes with Spike; Connor bores me.
I enjoy Harry Potter but the films were dull IMO (except the last one).
I've been a huge fan of Tolkien since the 1960s and I enjoyed the films.
Doublemeat Palace was better than All the Way, that one I really dislike.
Have no clue who Beecher, Keller, Stark or Zhann are. In fact, I rarely watch television at all "ducks".
Everyone has their own likes and dislikes, that's what makes LJ friends more interesting. If we all liked exactly the same thing, how dull would that be.

Date: 2004-10-23 04:29 pm (UTC)I hated As You Were. Another season 6 episode I really disliked was the Dawn episode where she sneaks away on halloween. It was just so boring. I really liked DoubleMeat Palace, I always feel like I'm in such a minority there. All of Jane's episodes are terrific IMO.

Very true :)

Date: 2004-10-23 05:08 pm (UTC)1) I don't hate Lana. In fact I think she's quite beautiful. I just think she's got a icy bitch core at the center of her marshmallow coating and I love that. I'm all for her with really anyone but Lex and even then I understand. I just don't find her interesting enought to read about.
2) I liked the Evil Willow plot line. I don't feel betrayed that they killed Tara and I like Kennedy, because I think she was a better match for Willow.
3) I liked Dawn, Connor, the Doublemeat Palace, loved Cordilia, SMG and all the rest of it.
4) I'm with you on the Bo thing.
5) *hides* I think Chloe is a bitch and I think Clark gives her so many chances because he doesn't really care about her that much. I can identify with her, but I still just every so often catch myself wanting her to drive off a bridge.
6) I don't think the girl who plays Lois is pretty. Her nose is weird. Like she had Michael Jackson-esque plastic surgery. Whatching her rail on the horror of cosmetic surgery made me laugh.
7) I'm completely in love with Sark and I want him to get to have Syd just once.
8) I love this season of Smallville, and I am happy that they are giving Lana something constructive and interesting to do in the plot. She's been pointless for a while and it's not like they were going to get rid of her, so I am all for actual plot beyond idol for Clark.
9) I miss Pete and his unrequited love for Chloe and his possessiveness over Clark.
10) I loved Cheerleader!Chloe, I didn't think it was any more humiliating for her than other shit she's done and at least she can blame it on the krypto juice. But I do have to say, she was hot in his jersy in the barn. She should know better than to think Clark wants sexual favors from icky girls, though.

Date: 2004-10-23 05:20 pm (UTC)The only time I liked evil Willow was Tough Love. The final episodes in season 6 were just too cheesy for me. Sometimes she was okay, I liked her in Villains with the torturing of Warren and being genuinely scary. But with "get off me superbitch" and "fly my pretties, fly" she became too much like a cartoon IMO.
8. The plot arc for Lana is growing on me (and she is tolerable around Jason). Anything's better than entirely separate plots revolving around Henry Small and the Talon not making money.
10. Liking cheerleader Chloe is an unpopular opinion? I am surprised. I thought AM was hysterical, and so adorable when she was cheering Clark on. I know a few people said Chloe was being mistreated again, but I think the majority agree with us that it was a fun use of Chloe :)
So do you like Lana more than Chloe? I do like it when we get bitchy Lana, she's more fun. It's "perfect Lana" giving other people martial advice, and being worshiped as insightful and beautiful et etc, that gets on my nerves. If she was written more like a bitchy Cordelia, I would actually like her character, I think KK is good at playing bitchy. She was fun in Nicodemous.

Date: 2004-10-23 06:02 pm (UTC)I also prefer Beecher to Keller though I don't find him hotter *g* I suppose you wouldn't know it given that I have so many Keller icons, but it is true. Keller is interesting mostly as he relates to Beecher (though some of the introspective sort of season 5 stuff was good, season 6 kind of destroyed any development there). So my Keller interest is really Beecher/Keller interest.
Beecher I always find fascinating whether his story involves Keller or not. Season 1 Beecher was in particular, Teh Awesome. I like his story lines involving other characters as well such as Said.
As for other stuff, I don't really watch Buffy or Angel, but I am not sure not having seen much of something qualifies as an opinion of it.

Date: 2004-10-23 06:11 pm (UTC)It just seems like into being a fan of Harry Potter or Lord Of The Rings, is a little bit out of the ordinary in internet fandom. So saying, "I don't care about HP" is not all that popular an opinion y'know?
I find Beecher adorable. Those puppy dog eyes he gets! I like Beecher and Keller, but Beecher is just definitely my favorite. His season 1 character arc was amazing. I *heart* crazy Beecher.
Oohh I also like Beecher/Ryan from season 1 when they were first getting friendly. And I like Keller/Ryan plotting murders together.

Date: 2004-10-23 06:42 pm (UTC)... normally, I would agree with you. But the last couple episodes (coupled, I think, with the fact that I can't get Bo Duke out of my friggin' head) are starting to change my mind, because somewhere in the coma and the sickness and everything, he seems to be coming to the realization that Clark is special, and needs special treatment. Granted, I still wanted to smack him around a bit for saying that Clark was a normal seventeen year old kid, because let's face it, he's not, but it *seems* like he's trying to pull his head out of his tightly puckered ass and see what's going on with his kid.
However.
I'm reserving judgement on that for a few more episodes, because I'm really, truly wondering if that's what's going on, or if the rug's getting ready to get yanked out from under us, much like Shattered and Asylum (because they were 3.9 and 3.10, iirc, and we're coming up on the 9/10 mark and the hiatus, I think!)

Date: 2004-10-23 06:52 pm (UTC)In Run Clark has his talk with Jonathon where he is contemplating enjoying his powers like Bart does. And then Jonathon basically encourages him to keep on moping and viewing them as a burden.
The sense of paranoia he has given Clark.
Telling us he prefers to believe in people, when he has spend years judging Lex for who his father is.
Being blatantly hypocritical in the things he says. Being judgemental and acting morally superior.
His chauvinism towards Martha working away from home.
Being a moral coward. He didn't want to shoot Nixon in Vortex to protect Clark's secret, because killing would feel wrong to him. But he is willing to close his eyes and look the other way in Asylum, when he isn't doing anything actively immoral, except y'know letting someone be tortured and dissected to protect Clark from the same thing. There was something so morally dishonest about that IMO.
I just really don't like him basically :P

Dawn Summers + Harry Potter 4eva! Even though you're not an HP fan, trust me, theirs is a match made, well, in my own warped mind, actually. . . .
I don't think Jonathon is a good person at all.

Date: 2004-10-23 10:58 pm (UTC)2. I love both Dawn and Connor too, I started loving Dawn because of her friendship with Spike, and I started loving Spike even more because of his friendship with her.
And Connor is hot. Nah
3. I love SMG. I loved Buffy. I think Buffy became a domestic abuser in S6, but I still want to love her.
4. Sorry, felt that CC was acting wooden in S4, she does much much better with the bitchy evil.
5. I stopped watching Smallville in S2
6. Harry Potter rocks, but my fave book is the fifth one. Harry's just so bitter and dark in it. yet still utterly understandable. I always felt that Harry Potter OoTP did successfully, what S6 of Buffy tried to do. Bring the chars through darkness, through anger and depression without having the readers lose touch with him.
It's just a perfect look at adolescence
7. I only watched the first LoTR movie and though I liked the scenery, at the end, I still didn't feel like I knew any of the chars, or had any reason to like any of them.
8. I've never watched Oz or Alias or Farscape. Watched maybe half an ep of each and wasn't interested by what I saw.
9. Was bored to hell by Doublemeat Palace
10. Just to add something new. I absolutely totally, despise Willow. I can't stand her, not even a little bit. She's a whiney selfcentered bitch, who's nothing more than Joss' very own Mary Sue and I want to tear her tongue out every single time she opens her mouth.
11. I didn't mind Oz, but he didn't interest me.
12. I don't connect to Wesley. Don't hate him, but have absolutely no interest to read any fanfic about him.
13. And I still feel that Gunn/Fred could have made a great couple, if they'd actually given them a chance instead of making them all about Wes' feelings of rejection.

Date: 2004-10-24 02:38 am (UTC)I liked Dawn right from her intro, but her friendship with Spike just made her even more appealing a character to me. She lost me in season 6 when her main role was being a burden to Buffy. I preferred the grown up Dawn they were teasing us with in Afterlife when she takes care of traumatised Buffy. Thankfully they did give us a more grown up Dawn for season 7. And how great is Michelle's comic timing! She was hysterical in STSP with her pratfall off the couch.
I hated Willow too. In season 6 she started getting on my nerves with her victim mentality, and by the time of season 7 I was actively despising her.
Oz bored me, I never saw any chemistry with him and Willow.
And I liked Gunn/Fred!

From:OMG YOU SHALL BE BANNED! ;)
Date: 2004-10-24 01:39 am (UTC)I liked Conner. Dawn had her moments - but I really did want to put a sock in her mouth sometimes.
3. I think SMG is an incredible actress, who made me feel for Buffy right up until the end. I await my banning from Sparklies now, according to JesseW if you don't hate SMG, you're not a Sparklie ;)
LOL - you know where I stand on this. But Ban? bwaaa. No, Jesse's pushing it because she dissed JM/Spike - but you know that ;)
4. I liked Cordelia in season 4.
I love Cordelia, especially on ATS. There were awkward moments for the character in season 4, many caused by who the hell knows what - way too many factors for my lil brain. "You're Welcome" made (still makes) me cry like a baby.
5. I don't think Jonathon Kent is a salt of the earth person upon which all moral standards should be measured. In fact I don't think Jonathon is a good person at all.
I agree! The man is small town, and wears blinders.
6. I'm not a Harry Potter fan.
Books - if you can slog through 1-2, it REALLY picks up. Becomes complex and more layered.
Movies - 1 & 2 were good, but childish. (NOT childLIKE - that I enjoy). 3 kicked some serious ass on all levels. Yeah, you kinda need to know what's gone before, but if you can make it through 1 & 2, what Alfonso Cuaron did with #3 makes it worthwhile. The man's a friggin genius. I wish he were doing the rest, too.
Not only that, but the kids' skills are growing. They're becoming quite poignant.
7. I have never read or watched Lord Of the Rings.
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh.
OK, you KNOW I'm a big geek. No question there.
I'm a 30+ year fan of the series. I read and re-read them. And all the appendixes, the related books, hell, I have an album (vinyl) of Tolkein himself reciting poetry in Elvish. Yup, big LOTR geek.
When they said they were going to make them into movies, I cringed, and hoped for the best. I had great trepidation.
I didn't expect them to be 100% faithful to the books. They'd have had to be, oh, 6 hours long each for that.
But they got the spirit of it, with such great performances, production values, and, well, all of it - I am happy.
Hee
Date: 2004-10-24 02:44 am (UTC)Season 6 Dawn worked my last nerve. But she was cool in seasons 5 and 7 I thought.
I just think SMG is a very capable actress. Buffy's final moments with Spike in Chosen, when her eyes are welling up with tears *sniff*

Date: 2004-10-24 08:05 am (UTC)Never saw Angel so don't know Connor. What little I saw of Dawn didn't bug me much.
I agree with #5. He's a hypocrite and full of it. I also think there's a big slice of dysfunction in that marriage.
Doublemeat Palace was OK. I kinda liked the fact she had a crappy job, it makes sense for that time of her life. I like the little details like getting tired of the fast food and stinking like the food she had to make.

Date: 2004-10-25 07:04 pm (UTC)And Beecher gets more beautiful in every episode. (Season 1 excepted, when he puts me in mind of a blonder Neil Kinnock.) Keller is growing on me, and he certainly has dangerously high levels of charisma, but Beecher is Beecher. Remorseful and violent and sarcastic and vulnerable and with an even more adorable face than Miguel's. I love that man more than is healthy.
