The first episode I watched of Dawson's Creek was the detention episode (and being a fan of The Breakfast Club it really stuck with me, I liked that they made the reference to it along with Mighty Ducks, all the meta, lol). I didn't watch the show to the end, but I remember watching the first few seasons or so. I can't remember when I stopped, but it must've been before Joey/Pacey got together because I didn't remember that happening when I was watching it. I didn't really have a favorite relationship on the show when watching, I was just a casual watcher at that time but some episodes and even characters deeply affected me.

I've been always meaning to get the DVDs, though knowing that Paula Cole's "I Don't Wanna Wait" isn't used for the theme song on them has put me off a bit.

Haha yes, I remember the looks that Joey and Jen gave Pacey when he mentioned how funny The Mighty Ducks movies were *g* That one was always one of my favourite episodes. It sounds like you must have stopped watching after the second season as it was the third season when they started building up to Joey/Pacey?

And it was absolutely ridiculous that they had to change the entire theme song of the show, it’s not like it was even by a famous artist that you’d expect to demand a ton of extra money, she was pretty much only known for the DC song! They butchered a lot of other scenes with the music changes as well, it wasn’t just the theme song sadly. I can still remember how beautiful I found the scene of Pacey and Andie dancing to, ‘And everything stands so still when you dance’, and then the DVDs changed it to an entirely different song :( :( :( They should take advantage of the 20th anniversary to rerelease the DVDs with the original music! I know so many fans who would pay a lot to keep those original scenes intact, and other shows from the 90’s have managed it with their dvd sets, so it’s not like it’s impossible to do

Maybe? It's been a long time since I watched the show. I probably watched a little bit of the third season or something. Again, I was more of a casual watcher of the show so idk how my memory is with it.

Seriously! It makes me so mad and frustrated. Like, I understand that a lot of it has to do with getting those rights and everything, which I know can be a pain to acquire, but at the same time it makes no sense that some shows can maintain most (if not all) of the original broadcast music while most shows just don't when it's put on DVD or during syndication. Some shows can survive without it since it's hardly that noticeable, but with other shows the music was a huge part of the experience. There have been some DVDs from shows, esp during the early 00s, I have that either have replaced certain music that makes some scenes not work as well as originally broadcasted or have absolutely no music featured, which makes scenes so awkward to rewatch.

On one hand we should be grateful that there are DVDs at all, but at the same time it would've been nice if they actually maintained the nostalgia that came with the era of music, y'know? That is half the fun of reliving these shows.

Couldn’t agree more, I was amazed at just how big a difference it made when I rewatched Dawson’s Ceeek and Roswell with the music changes. You can’t enjoy those nostalgic moments at all when it absolutely does ruin the feel of the original scene to change the music, it just feels subtly wrong when you have always associated that moment with a different song
