With Greg Beeman. The Lana bits were the most amusing. And they did read the essay about Lana as a fetish object! If they know her character has a limited role and she has spend three seasons only being the object of the heros desire, well than why is she the second lead ahead of Lex Luther??? It's not so much her role I object too, it's all the screen time she eats up. All the shots of the camera lingering on her, nearly every ending focusing on her.

K-SITE: Is it true that you guys dress Kristin Kreuk in pink just to annoy us?

BEEMAN: At this point in time, I am amused by the anger of the fans, but no, not really.

Kristin, because I think she was always designed to be the princess, you know, the object of desire, I think the idea was to put her in very innocent colors, and she would be the innocent one. And frankly, she looks great in pink.

Kristin doesn't really like pink, and she hates being dressed in pink. I don't know whether Kristin goes online or not, but if she does, she probably really doesn't like the comments about her being the pink princess and everything. You know, she's very sensitive, actually, and I think she really objects to pink. So, I gave her a chance to pick her own colors on one episode, which was Crisis. And she picked this terrible color of green, and this terrible color of orange, and that was the end of that. And I think if you see the episode you'll agree, that the orange she chose, and the green she chose, were not a success. So, we were right back to pink.

she's very sensitive. I think that all that “I Hate Lana” stuff - how do you not take that personally? I think she's aware of it. I think it hurts her. I don't think she's always happy with Lana, and I think Lana's a really tricky character. She's a tricky character because I've read things like MobiusKlein's objectification of Lana, but, you know, in some ways, that's the truth, but in some ways, that's what it needs to be. Especially from the beginning. She was the object of his desire, and she motivated him. As a dramatic instrument, he needed to have something that made him want to move forward, and so Lana was that. She was in fact sort of an object. Miles and Al were always very alert to the fact that they didn't want her to only do that, and they gave the Talon to give her something to do.

Love your icon MissW.

I'm going to be laughing hysterically all night about the "shyness".

How do morons end up in their jobs at Smallville??

HAHAHA-which leads me to KK is lacking in common sense and brain power.

I would write it off to lack of experience-but she's been hanging around MR, JG, AOT, and JS--so she should have MORE than enough experience in dealing with real actors, and she should know by now the difference between herself and Lana.

Personally, I still think she hates Lana cause Lana is a lot like her.

Wha does shyness have to do with anything is what I want to know.

"all that “I Hate Lana” stuff - how do you not take that personally?" If you were a trained actor who understands it's a character that's disliked than what's the problem? What happens if she ever plays an actual villain that is supposed to be hated? Is she going to collapse from the trauma of it all?

It's acting, people are disliking a fictional character, and it is mostly because of the writing.

But KK is sensitive so please don't hate Lana.

I'm always deleting posts because it won't let me edit them. I'm used to editing posts about a million times, hence in lj I reread my comment, catch the spelling mistakes, and resend the post.

I know-I have to do the same thing. With my new layout, I have trouble editing, so I just delete and start over. :D

Problem is, I see Lana as a villainous character, or at least one with villainous tendencies -- what with the way every time Clark starts to lose interest, she turns on the "innocent seductress" act, like making goo-goo eyes at Clark over Mr. Fordman's grave.

Only somehow it seems like they don't realize that she's a villain. If they'd admit it and let us see her planning some scheme to keep The Boyfriend of the Week interested, I think I'd like her a lot more.

Me too. In Shimmer it was so messed up because she was totally out of line to keep Whitney as her back-up option and try to kiss Clark. If she wasn't satisfied with the attention she was getting, she should have ended things with Whitney. It did not give her a licence to cheat.

When the characters on the show all act like Lana is perfectly in the right to explore her options (even the "moral characters" like Martha) it makes the audience come down on Lana a lot tougher because she doesn't have to answer for her behavior. You would think Whitney had ben battering her the way people talked of him mistreating her!

In fact as early as Cool she was considering a date with Clark to make Whitney jealous. Lovely girl.

If they made her sort of vampy and flirty (especially just from the audience's pov), she'd probably be my favorite character, or second-favorite, after Lex. Maybe third after both of the boys.

But anyway . . .

I was put off by how totally out of the blue it seemed.

That and the fact that apparently Lana really believes that every man in town is desperately in something with her. :blech:
