Here's the first look at season 7 of The Vampire Diaries
And Inside Scoop
Question: Can we expect a major “Steroline” kiss in the Vampire Diaries season premiere? I need it. – Kayla
Ausiello: You might want to sit down for this one, Kayla: Paul Wesley couldn’t quite recall what goes down in the premiere — they’re a few episodes into Season 7 right now — but when we asked him about Stefan’s kissing agenda with Caroline, he did drop this bombshell: “I’ll be lip-locking with more than one woman.”
When to Watch: Thursday, Oct. 8 at 8 p.m.
What to Expect: After six seasons of romance, The Vampire Diaries is focusing on the love between the Salvatore brothers for season seven and we could not be more into this idea! "That's the central relationship at the heart of our show so we figured it's about time we showed that," executive producer Julie Plec says. "We'll see how the brothers deal with each other without Elena between them, how they feel about their mother Lily, and we're going to get back to the season one Damon we all fell in love with."
A series of brief three-year flash-forwards will lead to an overarching mystery in Season 7, while simultaneously revealing unexpected futures for Mystic Falls' finest. One such reveal is a new (yet familiar) man for Bonnie, which executive producer Julie Plec says "will make a lot of sense" (despite the relationship seemingly coming "out of nowhere"). In the present day, Lily (pictured) and her "family" of Heretics will paint the town (blood) red, forcing both Matt and Enzo to decide once and for all what kind of people they're "willing to be surrounded by." Following the losses of their lovers, albeit temporarily in one case, Damon and Alaric will find themselves "back on the bourbon wagon" with Bonnie tagging along as their "uninvited chaperone." And Caroline and Stefan's relationship will remain "one of the bigger surprises of the season," as she continues to weigh her feelings for him against her need to regain her sense of self.
BONUS SPOILER!: Expect a major curveball for Stefan and Caroline around Episode 6.
It all sounds pretty good to me so far, especially Lily's role, the time-jumps, the Steroline, and the focus on the Salvatore's relationship! My only slight disappointment is that some of the Heretics seem so young and CW'ish in the promo pics, last season I'd always pictured them as being closer to Lily's age... Oh well, I'll see how they come across anyway. And hmm if Bonnie is being paired with someone that we already know, I guess that the only options are Matt (seems unlikely?), Enzo, or Alaric? I'm betting that it will either be Enzo or Alaric in an attempt to give them more to do, Matt seems to have a semblance of a plot this year for once with his new thing of being a cop and turning against vampires, although I suppose that Enzo has more to do now as well that his storyline has tied in with Lily's...Urgh I only hope they don't go with Alaric/Bonnie, I know there are bigger age gaps in TVD, but it would just feel wrong

My first guess was actually Enzo, but then I thought that Bonnie would never ever - not in a million years - hook up with a Vampire. And if she ever did, it would probably be a vampire she likes, like Damon. I don't think she'd EVER touch Enzo at all... but who knows? By now I rather think it's Matt as he didn't have a girlfriend for a while and I don't think Ric really has "love" on his mind after everything that happened...
Although of course with the time-jump(s) they could probably make it work...

Date: 2015-09-11 08:26 pm (UTC)And it could be Matt I suppose, but I don't see them being a very dynamic couple together tbh, I get the feeling that the writers would rather pair Bonnie off with a ~bad boy~ character like Enzo and create sparks that way, that's usually more their thing. My best guess is that it's going to be Enzo, but I agree that it doesn't seem very in character for Bonnie...I can't really picture her with any of the current male regulars at the moment, although I wouldn't be averse to them doing Bamon actually. It's probably a bit too soon for that though :P

Date: 2015-09-11 10:12 pm (UTC)I wouldn't be surprised with Enzo or Matt. Matt makes sense because they have so much history together and they're both genuinely decent people. I don't really see the chemistry there, but I remember there was a con a few years ago where Zach mentioned wanting Matt to hook up with Bonnie. He was probably kidding but still...
Enzo doesn't really make any sense and Plec once swore that Bonnie would never get involved with a vampire but the show does love it's good girl/bad boy combinations. And since so many fans like/want Bonnie/Damon, I could see the writers thinking Enzo would be a good compromise.
Personally, I'd rather she not hook up with any of them. The only male character I'd want to see her with is Stefan but I highly, highly doubt they'd go there. Unless they've decided to move away from Stefan/Caroline or they're determined to create another love triangle. But yeah...he's the only want I'd want to see her with. Out of all the other options, I'd go for Matt or Damon. Matt because he's a good guy and Bonnie deserves someone good. Damon because Kat and Ian have insane chemistry and even though I still don't like Damon, he's more tolerable in scenes with Bonnie. The 3-year flash-forward would make the Bonnie/Damon thing possible but I really don't see the writers going there. They are way too obsessed with Damon/Elena to pair Damon with anyone the fans actually want to see him with.
I'm trying to think if there were any recurring male characters left alive who could be Bonnie's new love interest. The only ones I can think of are Jamie (which failed miserably the first time) and Liam (whom everyone hated.) I suppose they could always go with Bonnie/Tyler if Michael Trevino was up for making semi-regular guest appearances. All I remember is that they claimed he'd pop up from time to time but I don't know if they actually intend on following through on that one...

Date: 2015-09-12 01:06 pm (UTC)Yeah I think the dynamics would just be too weird there when he was a guardian to Elena and Jeremy, and has always been seen more in the teacher role with the other teenagers. The show probably won't go there, he just occurred to me as an option because it seems to most likely be him or Enzo IMO. I saw Matt and Bonnie as a potential couple in season 3 actually and I don't think they would have bad chemistry together, but I also feel like the writers wouldn't want to pair them off because they would be pretty boring together? They would probably make a good couple, but I'm just not sure where the drama would come from with them
I didn't used to see the Bamon chemistry, but they won me over last season, I would be all for the writers exploring them now, but I agree that it seems unlikely at this point with Elena having only just left in the eyes of the audience. Even with the time-jump, most viewers would probably be screaming that it was too soon and felt contrived to start pairing them right away. It is most likely going to be Enzo (even though they seem very mismatched to me), I'm surprised that he didn't give any kind of love-interest last season actually, he seems like the kind of character that the writers would want to give an intense ship too. They were flirting with Enzo/Caroline for a bit in season 5 already, but then seemed to lose any interest in that once Steroline became the endgame instead
And I'm having a mental-block, who was Liam?

Date: 2015-09-14 01:55 am (UTC)I think Matt and Bonnie have good chemistry as friends but I've never really gotten the romantic vibe from them. It could work but, as you said, it probably wouldn't be that interesting because where would the tension come from?
I've seen the Bonnie/Damon chemistry since season 2 but it's never really been something I wanted the show to explore because Damon's not a character I care for. But I've always enjoyed their scenes together because Bonnie's the only person who constantly calls Damon out on his shit and I enjoy their bickering :)
Enzo/Bonnie is probably the direction they're going in and I guess I'll wait to pass judgement. If they give Enzo a decent redemption arc and build up their relationship (because as of right now, it's non-existent) maybe it'll work.
Liam was that med student Elena kind of dated last season. I think the last time we saw him was when Caroline forced him to operate on Sarah so I think he's still alive. But I doubt they'd bring him back because no one liked him.

Date: 2015-09-11 10:27 pm (UTC)Season 6 was the first season where I didn't mind Damon so I'm not pleased that he's going back to his season 1 self. I wish they would've let him continue to develop and mature instead of having him backslide into his old, horrible patterns. I guess we'll see how it goes but...yeah...I'm not looking forward to that at all or to his drinking buddies thing with Alaric. That friendship has never held much appeal for me.
I like the idea of exploring the Stefan-Damon relationship but I also don't want to see so much focus on the brothers and the new characters that all the other regulars are forced into the background. Bonnie and Caroline are my favorites and with Nina gone, I want to believe they'll get more screen-time but if the writers decide to focus everything on the Salvatore family...idk, I'm just worried all the other characters/relationships will be sacrificed in order to play up the family dynamic and make TVD more like The Originals.

Date: 2015-09-12 01:13 pm (UTC)Yeah Ian especially is really pushing for getting the season 1 Damon back and those old dynamics, but I feel like you can't really capture them again in the seventh season, too much time has passed? I was admittedly a fan of Damon in season 1 when he was really awful, but then by the time of season 5 it was just putting me off that he continued being awful and killing off the Whitmore family, even after he had settled down with Elena and had supposedly somewhat changed for the better. Those bad boy characters have their novelty, but I'm not super into the idea of going back to those old patterns either, I didn't care for when he went off the rails with Enzo in season 5 for that reason. I do like Damon's friendship with Alaric though!
And I see what you're saying, but the cast is pretty smallish these days, so I don't see that they can just focus on Damon/Stefan/Lily and neglect everyone else. Even if those three are getting a lot of focus, season 7 should still be a pretty decent year for Caroline, Bonnie, and Matt IMO as Jeremy, Tyler, and Elena have all left now and Lily is the only new addition to the regulars

Date: 2015-09-14 02:02 am (UTC)I honestly wouldn't care if the show still painted him as a villain but he really hasn't been written that way since early season 1. Damon made a great villain but once they started writing away from that, I started having issues with him.
Season 6 was the first time I can remember where he didn't randomly lash out and go on a killing spree just because Elena hurt him. I expected him to after he learned she erased her memories of him, but he didn't. So finally I thought we were getting some character growth with him but now it looks like they're going back on that for season 7.

Date: 2015-09-14 09:49 am (UTC)Oh I also liked Matt last season being skeptical of Enzo and his vampire hatred coming up, that felt very fitting for his character, and I'm glad that season 7 is going to continue that idea. It feel like Elena's leadership role in the group got Damon way more passive acceptance than he would have had without her voice ( Bonnie and Caroline were treated as such killjoys for Elena's happiness whenever they did go against the grain and speak out against Damon or Delena for e.g), so it should be interesting to see how that shakes up with Elena missing in action when Damon yet again goes off the rails

Date: 2015-09-14 11:03 pm (UTC)Yes, I liked what they did with Matt last season and how they've always kept up his fear/distrust/hatred of vampires that aren't his friends. It'll be interesting to see how he handles the upcoming war with the Heretics. He can side with the humans all he wants but Caroline is one of his closest friends and she's a vampire so I don't think he's ever going to be able to write vampires off completely.
Yeah I don't know how they are going to deal with Damon without Elena's influence. I mean, I guess quite a few of them like him now? There's Stefan, Bonnie, Alaric and Enzo if they continue that friendship. So even if Matt and Caroline still don't like him, the majority of the group now does. Benefits of getting rid of so many characters, I guess :)

Date: 2015-09-11 10:41 pm (UTC)And in that same CC interview, Caroline Dries outright stated that they weren't going the Bonnie/Damon route. I mean, they could've changed their minds but...I imagine that rules out Damon for the foreseeable future.

Date: 2015-09-12 01:21 pm (UTC)Well that doesn't sound too promising :( My guess would have been that it was someone new they were introducing with the goal of them being a love interest for Bonnie, like they did with Jamie (and I could see why Kat would be meh over that), but the mention of it being a familiar face is throwing me when I don't see the history there to justify an Enzo/Bonnie pairing or Alaric/Bonnie. Completely wild thought, but there isn't any chance of them bringing Kai back is there?

Date: 2015-09-14 11:15 pm (UTC)It's the least probable option after Damon but I wonder if Paul's comment about kissing more than one woman could apply. I doubt they'd derail Stefan/Caroline since they're the show's main couple now but maybe it'll be Paul but not Stefan? Maybe one of Stefan's doppelganger's made it back from the other side before it collapsed (because they were all supposedly dead in season 5) and that's who Bonnie hooks up with? It's a total long-shot but maybe the guy's "familiar" because we know the actor playing him but it's a new character. Like a witch or something so that's why it makes sense but comes out of nowhere? IDK...
lol, all this speculating over Bonnie's love life...But she's my favorite so I want the best for her :)
