I enjoyed the tone of iZombie a lot as it followed Liv's journey to having to step away from her old perfect life and switch to working at the morgue as a zombie, but managed to somehow still bring in enough humour that it wasn't super dark or depressing. I really liked the performance of the actress playing Liv, I'm usually a huge fan of these sorts of shows anyway that have a directionless young person finding their purpose through the supernatural, while still being cynical and snarky about it. I've seen all the obvious Veronica Mars comparisons, but actually it reminded me even more of the vibe that Dead Like Me had!
Really all of the characters beats were great, Ravi especially when he first finds out about her and is just really exited at having his suspicions confirmed and asking why she's eating hot sauce with the brains lol. The platonic friends vibe there reminded me a bit of Wallace and Veronica from VM (also maybe it was just me, but I got a gay vibe from Ravi?) which should be sweet to follow.
I wasn't super into the procedural part of the show to be honest, it wasn't the most exciting case anyway, and I guess that I'd been picturing it as more Liv deciding to investigate the murders of the people on her own without bringing the police element into it. Still I did like the character of the detective, and I suppose that you can't really expect them to introduce their most exciting cases in the pilot when they're more focused on establishing the show. The crime mystery was still effective in bringing in the fun show-specific things like it turning out that Liv can pick up the languages from the brain that she's eaten
Also I really liked the choice of using the comic book panels to transition between scenes, plus it was a nice change for a CW show to have an actual title sequence for once, instead of just a title card!

Date: 2015-03-21 02:58 am (UTC)I was creeped out by her coworker, but that's cool. Wanted to be more impressed with the cop, but there is time. He was fun enough. I do not give a fig for the boyfriend, like her friend, and definitely like Liv. It's like there is some weird trend towards earnestness these days, and I loved her detached bitter vibe.

Date: 2015-03-21 09:30 am (UTC)Liv and her co-worker were the characters that I enjoyed the most, although the cop also seemed okay, and yeah the boyfriend didn't make much of an impression on me either. Neither did the roommate disappointingly, I hope they're going to spend some more time on their friendship and showing them as close, as their scene in the pilot didn't do a lot for me and I'm normally pretty into the female friendships. I did read that the roommates role was bumped from regular to recurring though, so it doesn't sound like she's going to be a major part of the show

On another note: There are quite a few CW Shows that do indeed have title sequences. Not many, but like Reign and The 100 have too for example :D

Date: 2015-03-19 04:20 pm (UTC)And that's cool! I just figured it was something that CW shows had given up on as all the CW shows that I've been following (The Vampire Diaries, Nikita, Gossip Girl, The Flash and Supernatural) just have title cards these days which isn't really the same :(
