Season 2 was definitely my favorite: Spike, Dru, and OMG Angelus. While I'd always liked Angel well enough, Angelus blew me away. IOHEFY is my all time favorite episode not because of the Angelus/Buffy stuff but because of Spike standing up and kicking the wheelchair away and glaring and...that was the moment he became my favorite character ever.

That was also the season I found fanfic and started writing.

The Angleus arc was a classic, the second half of season 2 especially was just one classic moment after another <3

And heh I can still remember the first fan fic I read, it was one to fill in the blanks from the night that Spike and Buffy had together between Smashed and Wrecked!

Buffy/Faith were super hot, I've always loved season 3 and everything that Faith brought to that season :)

I love this show so much. It literally changed my life.

Favorite Seasons? 2&3
I'm a non-canon shipper, so for me it's all about Willow/Angel, Willow/Spike, etc.

Season 6 was actually my favorite because it suited my mood when I watched. Oh, the angst. But I tend to like post high school seasons best, probably because I watched it at 25 and all at once. I can't pick one story arc since I saw the whole show in one go, so I don't really break it down.

I loved Spike and Buffy and Willow and Giles and Tara and really didn't like Angel. (I prefered him on his own show). Loved Spuffy.

I did get my Dad to watch it in exchange for watching Burn Notice with him, so that was a win/win situation.

What's funny is that I LOVED Angel at first. Then I saw him on his own show, and... I can't take pre-Angel!Angel seriously anymore. It's like "stop broodily chilling with teenagers (and dating one, WTF?) and go head to head with Wolfram and Hart."

Heh yes, in retrospect it's really weird to watch Angel in Ats with all of his grown-up struggles, and then go back to those early seasons of Buffy with him hanging with the scoobies *g*

I have a lot of fondness for season 6 too, I could really emphasise with Buffy's struggles. Episodes like Life Serial and DoublemeatPalace really spoke to me about how unprepared you are in your early 20's to end up working in crappy and numbing jobs, school just doesn't prepare you for what it's actually going to be like the first time you work 9-5!

First, I love the list!

Not sure what my favorites were! I will say, however, that I actually see the shows as different if you're talking seasons 1-3 and seasons 5-7, with season four as sort of a backdrop. (It makes seasons 5-7 more tolerable if you look at it that way, too, imho.)

I loved Willow pretty much all the way through, even with her weird stuff in season six - which I see as yes, being a bit about magical drug addiction (sigh), but also as a way of helping others. When re-watching season two, I realized Willow was only ever interested in magic when Jenny Calendar died. To me, that was her motivating factor. She gets really bad in season six when everything is falling apart, even though she doesn't understand that falling apart herself is one of the reasons everything IS falling apart. It's the magical equivalent of someone who keeps making bad decisions trying to fix things for their loved ones, not realizing what everyone really needs is for them to sit down for two seconds, have a real conversation, and listen to what they really need. It's sad. :/ So I never stopped liking Willow, because while I found some of the writing poor, I also found her character transformation fairly believable.

Yeah that makes sense, season 4 is really the only season that heavily focuses on college, seasons 5-7 pretty quickly shift to giving Buffy more adult responsibilities

And true regarding Willow, a lot of her messing with magic was about wanting to fix things, she always took a lot of pride in being able to help in combat situations through her use of magic

Your post made me smile, because reminiscing yesterday I was thinking we were almost a pre-gif fandom - not that there weren't gifs, but with half of us on dial-up anything that moved was a bit much! Of course there were gorgeous fan images and vids, but it was also a word-rich fandom, and I'm ever grateful for that.

Season 5 might just be my favourite (Buffy-as-big-sister struck a chord with me, and I adored Spike's arc), but it's like choosing between children! I love them all. :)

My internet connection (supposedly broadband) still isn't great at handling gifs now! I often have to keep reloading a page on tumblr when there are a ton of gifs posted. I enjoy looking at the gifs that people create, but definitely I have happiest memories of all of the meta and discussion that Buffy brought about, LJ was the ideal fandom platform for Buffy :)

Never seen BUFFY... it's kind of funny because the time Buffy aired for the first time I felt like I had to decide between Charmed and Buffy and always was a Charmed fangirl through and through and Buffy never seemed THAT exciting for my personal taste... I was more into witches than that, but I kind of plan to watch the show at SOME point... a friend of mine has all seasons and the Angel Seasons too... and she told because I love James Marsters so much it's literally a crime not to know his "biggest success" :D

Season 3 was probably my favorite, though I also have a fondness for seasons 5 and 7.

Favorite Characters - Faith, Anya, Buffy, Tara, Oz, and Dawn

Buffy/Faith is definitely my favorite ship. I also like Giles/Anya quite a bit. Also Faith/Wes and Fred/Willow, though they're more AtS ships. I liked most of the canon ships back in the day but I feel like my opinion would be different now and it's been quite a while since I properly re-watched the show.

Faith's arc in season 3 is probably my favorite arc.

Yeah I think that season 3 just edges out as my fav. I know that most people pick season 2 from the high school era, but season 3 to me was when the show really hit its stride, a lot of episodes from that season were just one classic after another. And I was also a big Faith fan :)

Season 2 is my favorite, followed by S3. Then, S4. S1 and S5 are middling. Do not care for S6-7.

Willow is my homegirl and #1 fave. Probably my favorite fictional character of all time. Xander and Buffy are about tied for second on BtVS, but usually Buffy has the edge. Giles is #4.

My ships are Giles/Jenny, Willoz, and Sprusilla. Bangel's fascinating, but WHAT A TRAINWRECK. I also like to slash Buffy with Faith, Willow, and Cordy; or slash Willow with Fatih, Buffy, and Cordy. Giles/Wesley is yummy because of handsome reasons- but I struggle because Giles is such a jerk with few redeeming spots in that dynamic.

I used to be obsessed with Sprusilla back in season 2 and 3 <3 This was way before I went online, but I was such a crazy shipper for them all by my lonesome lol, Drusilla as a character was so fascinating to me in general. One of the first episodes I sat through and watched properly was Halloween, and then I was hooked by the time of the next episode (Lie To Me) and the teaser with Angel and Dru in the graveyard!

GAH It's so HARD to pick favorites!!!! I may need to sit down with an episode guide and pick one one from each season. I really love that show, even the episodes that were hard to watch and the arcs that made me cringe.

I will ponder...

Goodness, seeing how much time has passed makes me feel incredibly old. I was still in high school when it ended. I remember buying some of the VHS episodes of S1 and recording all the episodes on videotapes (which I still have stored away in boxes) before finally getting the seasons on DVD.

My favorite characters: Faith (♥), Buffy Summers, Dawn Summers and Cordelia Chase. And Giles, of course.

I have and always will love Buffy/Angel, but I think my ultimate OTP is Faith/Buffy. ♥

The third season was my introduction to the show, so it's no surprise that it's my all-time favorite season. It was well-structured, the majority of the season was made up of highly enjoyable episodes, the Mayor was a fantastic antagonist, and it also introduced my bby Faith. I also really loved how the finale was done, and looking back on it there was definitely a sense of an end of an era re: their high school years. And I liked how it incorporated every single graduating student into the fight; Buffy instructing them, standing their ground, it was wonderful.

My follow-up favorite season is S2, because the Angelus storyline was also well-done and the finale was emotionally bittersweet. I still get a lump in my throat whenever Sarah McLachlan's "Full of Grace" plays.

I was in school when I first started watching too, I definitely remember buying each season on VHS tape *g* I didn't have Sky in those days, and I remember buying the second half of season 4 to binge-watch as the BBC still hadn't aired it yet

And season 3 was so great <3

I can't believe its been eighteen years since Buffy was on the air! I started watching it way after it ended, but still loved it all the same and I remember it had quite an impact on me while I watched. Especially Spike and Buffy. I should do a rewatch ^^

18 years old? WOAH. That makes me feel so old all of a sudden. ;)

My favourite season has always been #3, because it involves Willow/Oz, Xander/Cordelia and Faith, but tbh I loved them all. :P

I actually haven't watched the show in YEARS, I think I'll have to get on that.

Season 4 was great for style and atmosphere and the horror aspect was handled better than in any other season. And Buffy in college was great. They should have kept that up.

Definitely! It's a shame they thrust adult responsibilities on Buffy so early, the college years could have been a really nice transition from high school for a little longer than it was, there was some interesting character development that year as they adjusted to not being in high school together any more

Off the top of my head...

I wasn't the biggest Dawn fan, but I loved the way all the other characters reacted to/protected her in late season five and early season 6. There was something sweet about it.

OMG, I loved the Spike/Joyce friendship as well. It was just so sweet and unexpected.

In retrospect, though she annoyed me when she first started encroaching on the gang, I loved Anya in the end for being so unfiltered and giving us so many hilarious and surreal moments.

If I were to list the episodes I liked most, solely on rewatching, my top 10 would be in no particular order:

Once More With Feeling (I'm a sucker for musicals)
Band Candy
School Hard
The Wish
Hush
Superstar
Restless
Fool For Love
The Gift
Storyteller

Some are just awesome and some are just ones I like for shaking up the narrative or because they made me laugh.
