Well it looks like LJ is down again on internet explorer, hopefully this isn't going to be a long-running issue!

And I'm still gradually catching up with my shows, I have now completed season 3 of The Good Wife :D

Ouch at Will accidentally saying 'I love you' in the phone call, then Alica shutting him down so fast when he wanted to talk about it later. It backed up what I already suspected from seasons 1 and 2 quite honestly, that Alicia is attracted to Will, but the feelings just aren't as deep on her side. I did think that they had some sexy scenes together early on, but I always felt like it was obvious that it was never going anywhere serious in Alicia's mind. I did find the break-up very effective though, and Will's 'she will' when Diane assumed that he was the one to break up with Alicia and said that she'll get over it. That did get him an aww from me, even if I was glad that Will and Alicia didn't become a long-term item *g* (I said in my last entry on TGW that I'm more invested in Peter/Alicia as a ship then in Will/Alicia, which is still true, but really it's the friendships I'm finding that I find that I get the most invested in on this show, I'm not super into any of the couples or potential couples at the moment)

Oh and LOL at Alicia's shifty side-eye at Will earlier in the season when they're forced to watch the sexual harassment video and it starts talking about how even consensual workplace relationships can lead to perceived favouritism! And on that note, I didn't get why Alicia seemed so surprised at Will outright saying that he convinced David Lee to vote for her in the beginning, erm I thought that was already obvious in the pilot when Alicia thanks Will for giving her a shot after she hasn't worked in a decade? Although I suppose that scene was there in order to bring Alicia's indignation up short when she was reminded that nepotism also played a part in her own hiring, but still I did get the sense that she was surprised for Will to reveal that he had to pull some strings for her in the beginning?

And urgh I found the competing lawyer Martha in episode 10 really grating with the way that she came at Alicia for not hiring her, and the way that she spoke about Caitlin, it was nobody's fault but her own if she turned down an offer from another firm because she just assumed that she was getting hired by Alicia. Alicia never made her any such promise! I ended up really liking Caitlain, so I'm glad the show twisted expectations by first making her competent as a lawyer, and then not portraying her as the backstabber that Alicia was starting to fear. Eh I didn't really get the reasons for her leaving though, wanting to be a wife and mother is absolutely fine, but then why go through years of law school, why convince a law firm to took a shot at you over other ambitious candidates? It just seemed like a lot of time and money was invested in Caitlain's career, only for her to decide that she wants to be a stay at home Mum just a year into her career

And I wasn't sure what to make of Celeste at first, I wanted to like her because I was already a fan of Lisa Edelstein from House, but the character came off as so juvenile and high school that I found it hard to see what Will ever saw in her. She was particularly obnoxious when she was forcing an intro between Will and Peter, although I will admit to chuckling at Peter's,'Well you have to start somewhere' in response to Celeste announcing that her first threesome was with Will. She did somewhat grow on me in the fifth episode in her scenes with Alicia when they get drunk together at the bar though (also her telling Colin Sweeney that she and Alicia were lovers heh), I loved Alicia's wtf expressions when Celeste starts complaining about how she just doesn't get other women, my thoughts exactly, Alicia! I was surprised that we didn't see any more of Celeste after episode 5 actually. Eh I can't say that I'll miss her all that much, but she did appear in three episodes in a row and then seemed to just vanish, it came across like they had a more long-term arc planned originally for her? Does she ever return in future seasons?

I'm still kind of bored with Kalinda's subplots tbh and she's not my favourite character, I just found myself really not caring after a while during that whole triangle of Kalinda, Dana and Cary in the first half of the season. I care more when Cary is involved I guess (OMG I have the biggest crush on him LOL, his voice does things to me), but the flirty scenes with Kalinda and Dana just sent me to sleep. About the one time I found myself getting invested in Kalinda was during those late season 2 episodes when she's trying to protect her friendship with Alicia, otherwise she just comes off as too cold and calculating most of the time. Kalinda and Will are probably my two least favourite characters, although I do find myself enjoying their scenes together actually and the rather odd friendship that they have. And it was nice also to see Alicia and Kalinda gradually repairing their friendship. The time that Alicia needed to take to come to terms with it felt realistically paced, so that it really felt earned at the end of 321 when Alicia is finally ready to have drinks with Kalinda again

Oh and Alicia's brother Owen is so funny and adorable *g* I love his sibling relationship with Alicia, how she's always been the good one and him the rebel, but now he's feeling boring as he reaches middle-age, while Alicia is the one kind of embarking on a new life

To talk about the cases for a minute, I found the judge at the end of episode 9 super hypocritical when she started talking about how finding the solider guilty was the only just option after 12 people had died, even though they'd earlier had people from the army testifying that with drone attacks they always weighed up if it was worth risking the lives of civilians or not, and how much loss of life they would calculate as excusable. I would have understood finding the solider in question guilty of manslaughter, but it seemed wrong to use that low-level soldier as a scrapegoat and accuse her of murder, even though it was official policy to sanction deaths of innocent people as long the benefits outweighed the risks. I did enjoy that military judge otherwise and her irritated responses to Will in court ("you'd better take it, she doesn't like me" heh), but it annoyed me that she got the last word on the case and that Alicia seemed to be genuinely chastened by what she had to say.

Oh and quite honestly I didn't get why everyone made SUCH a big deal about Will being suspended for six months. Obviously it was hardly ideal, but I thought that he would take it as a huge relief and a way out from actually being disbarred, so all of the "you can't take six months off the law, it will kill you!!" responses seemed very overblown to me. Will is rolling in money and has an amazing apartment, he could have easily just taken a six month cruise or something and treated it as a vacation, it's hardly the same as the average person losing their pay check for six months? Like yeah obviously he is a very type-A personality and would rather have been working, and yes him being suspended isn't going to look great in the eyes of his clients, but still I found the reactions very exaggerated to act like a six month suspension would be the end of the world for him. But then I also didn't quite get why everyone was competing for Will's position as partner, not to mention pushing so hard for a name change, when Will was only going to be gone for six months?

I also didn't understand why Alicia buying their old family home out of nostalgia was being presented as the right option for her, even though it seemed like going backwards to me? She said herself that she's saving for the kids to go to college in a few years time, so I really don't see the point in buying a 4 bedroom family home at this stage in her life, instead of just buying the condo that they were currently living in. Does Alicia really want to be rattling around in that huge house on her own in 5 years time? It did lead to a great pay-off though when Jackie had her conveniently timed stroke and whispers 'I forgive you' to Alicia, nicely played *g*

My least favourite episode from season 3 was probably the bitcoin episode with Jason Biggs, that one was kind of boring. Also I got a little bit confused as to why the kids nearly always seem to have their own prominent sub-plots, Grace taking an interest in making dance video's with her tutor especially just seemed so random and never really went anywhere. Sometimes I don't mind how the kids are used, but at the same time they're rarely an essential part of the episode for me

Overall I definitely really enjoyed season 3 and found that nearly all of the individual episodes were strong. Season 2 just edges out ahead for me though because of the intense showdown between the named partners of Lockhart and Gardner and all of the twists there, plus Peter running for State's Attorney. Whereas it felt like the second half of season 3 especially didn't really have much of a central arc once Will had been cleared. Which is fine, and there were still a lot of great character arcs and recurring guest stars that it was nice to see again, but yeah overall it's not a season that is quite up there with season 2 for me

Sorry about your LJ troubles. I'm not having those, but my email is being annoying. It's a tough day on the internet.

I'm glad that there is still a way of accessing LJ through other browsers, but it is frustrating when I prefer using IE on my desktop :/ (Even though it's apparently not considered a very cool browser to use lol)

LJ is really annoying not working properly... At least now we know how to access it anyway.

I'm a fan of Kalinda, but on the long term, her storylines aren't so good. Idk, she has different lovers along the series, and when we happen to see them again, I never really remember them. It's like it's the same woman over and over again, only with a different job related to law or law enforcement.

That's how I feel, I don't necessarily dislike the character, but I do find it hard to relate to her because so many of her subplots seems to be about seducing manipulative women, which yeah I feel like we've seen that scene one too many times. I am interested if season 4 is going to explore her background a little more, but so far I haven't been crazy about her subplot with Blake in season 2, or with Dana in season 3, and yeah I have no recollection of the FBI agent from previous seasons

Ha ha, I had to google Blake. I remember him because I watched the first season of Friday Night Lights and he was in a poly relationship in Caprica.

The FBI agent has been back lately. But there was a blonde working at the tribunal and another blonde, I think (or I'm inventing one). Also, the blonde cop that you might not have seen yet.

Sounds like a lot of blondes *g* Sometimes I don't always recall a character from past episodes at first (say one of the opposing lawyers that we may have seen in an episode before) and it doesn't really matter as much, but with Kalinda's lovers the story often relies on you remembering the backstory there, especially as THW doesn't have a previously on. And it does get convoluted trying to keep it all straight!

And Blake was a little different I guess, but mostly it feels like they keep giving Kalinda the same scenes of being irresistible to all men and women, and being able to easily seduce them and manipulate for her own purposes, I'm ready for something different now

Yes, it kind of feels like that. They're not all blondes, though. The FBI agent is dark-haired, for example.

I think it's easier with recurring lawyers and judges because they tend to be actors I already know from other shows.

Oh yeah, that's something I forgot to mention! (well the entry was probably long enough as it was *g*), I love the guest stars the bring in for this show, I have recognised soooo many actors from other shows, just in the last few episodes alone it was very cool seeing Matthew Perry playing a character the complete opposite of Chandler. Especially the scene when Alicia confronts him lying about her, and he just continues selling the lie right to her face and acting like she's the crazy one for questioning him. I don't know how to put it exactly, but that felt like a very true to life example of how some people really are so manipulative that they will just lie right to your face and act like they're convinced that they're telling the truth, as opposed to the usual tv thing of the bad guy acting sinister and 'yeah I lied, what are you going to do about it'. Whereas I thought the way that Matthew Perry's character sold the lie even to Alicia herself was quite chillingly done

Yeah, there's been at least 3 True Blood actors. It's hilarious seeing them in a show that is the complete opposite of True Blood's crack.

I remember that guy. I've never seen Friends, but I knew who the actor was.

That was the first time I saw him in a dramatic role and I was really impressed, I've only seen his comedic roles before

I never even used Internet Explorer. Just once when I got the new laptop to install and download Firefox but since then? Nope...

I hope, the problems will get fixed soon, but I don't have any with FF...

awesome analysis. I agree on your pov in terms of Will/Alicia and Alica/Peter.

Also I heart Cary and need him far far far away from Kalinda. He's such a compelling character in his own right.

Thank you! :) I definitely thought that Will, while perhaps not ready to settle down and be a family man exactly heh, did show some hints of being ready to make a real commitment to Alicia. Whereas Alicia very much just seemed to be in it for good sex with no complications, she was pretty much immediately shutting Will down when he wanted to discuss the "I love you", or asking if he should meet her kids. I thought it was pretty refreshing actually not to make Alicia get really hung up on Will, when that's usually how~the road not trodden~ love stories go on tv

And aww, same for Cary. I was so glad to see him back with L&G at the end of the season, for a minute there it seemed like he was going to get fired by Peter for interviewing for the position, but then Will was going to give it to someone else anyway, so I was pleased that it all worked out for him at the end. I really appreciate the respect that Alicia and Cary generally have for one another too, in spite of the background of them having to compete for one position back in season 1

I'm further ahead than you, but the Alicia and Cary dynamic is so good. I love it. I love nonromantic relationships that are compelling like their story is.

Yeah same, I'm definitely more invested in TGW for the platonic friendships (Will and Diane as well <3) I've seen some gifs of Alicia and Cary from the current season which look really touching, I can't wait to finally get caught up
