Firstly and most importantly HUGE CONGRATULATIONS go to the team at Supernatural for winning Best Tv Drama and Best Sci Fi show at the People's Choice Awards yesterday :D

But I was very disappointed not to see Jared and Jensen on the red carpet, and to not see their faces as SPN was announced as the winner (I always love to see the faces of the underdog winning things like these!) And their bodyguard has since said on twitter that the reason for SPN not being represented is that they didn't get an invite, in spite of being nomiated for two pretty big awards. And the show didn't even bother to air the Best Drama results, and the video thanking the fans, as part of the live show. This article sums up a lot of my thoughts on that:

This may have been the first time in PCA history that the network drama accolade wasn't presented live on air -- do we really believe it's a coincidence that a genre show got snubbed?

"genre fans are the reason that "Chuck" has survived for five seasons, that "Firefly" got a chance at a big-screen send-off as "Serenity," and that little-shows-that-could like "Supernatural" and "Community" can enjoy a brief, but satisfying moment in the spotlight on the cover of a publication like TV Guide. We may not have much power, but we still turn out in full force -- with all the bravery of a Stark and all the cunning of a Lannister -- whenever there's a chance to share our passion for a show that brings us joy.

Shame on the People's Choice Awards for deciding that our choice wasn't good enough."

You know, I'm not even a Supernatural fan, but I thought that sucked. If any other drama had won, the award would have been presented on the air. And now finding out that the guys weren't even invited makes the whole thing even more insulting.

I was shocked to find out that they didn't get an invite, for an award show you'd think they would want to invite all of the nominee's at least, whatever their assumptions on who is going to win it.

And the fact that they had time to mail the award prior to the live show makes me wonder why they couldn't throw the SPN set an invite in that time as well, once they knew they were the winners

They didn't get an invite? That seems weird.

Vampire Diaries people were there and it's a genre show.

I was confused too, but I suppose that TVD has always been a show that is seen as more buzz-worthy and the CW's biggest show. But for an award show that's supposedly about acknowledging the people's choice you'd think that everyone who had been nominated would at least merit an invite idk

Adding that apparently it wasn't so much that they didn't get an invite, but that they were contacted to be told that their award wouldn't be presented as part of the live show and they had it mailed to them instead, so I guess that in theory they could still have showed up just to smile on the red carpet. But it was made clear that they wouldn't get to be a part of the show itself :/

It just angers me because none of the other shows in that category would have been treated like that if they had won, if it had been TVD it would no doubt have been a huge deal and the cast would have got their moment :sighs:

... Seriously? Seriously? What the actual hell.

Bah. Well, good on the SPN crew, at least.

It's amazing (or maybe not knowing SPN fandom lol) at how much fandom has rallied around getting an apology, there's even been another article on it now!

http://affairsmagazine.com/wordpress2/2012/01/13/supernatural-fans-call-for-apology-from-peoples-choice-awards/

It will be interesting to see if they do end up responding or not. But then, even if they do end up releasing some half-assed explanation and apology for why they couldn't fit it in the live show, well I'm still really disappointed that we didn't get to see the actors faces as SPN was announced as the winner against all these bigger shows. It would have been such a great moment

Ooh. Yeah, SPN fandom is a devoted bunch, haha. I'm glad the support is getting media attention, even if it doesn't change much.

Newest news from the Buffy comics: Buffy's pregnant after getting drunk at a party and she may get her arm chopped off.

In theory I don't mind the idea of Buffy being pregnant, although the who's the father mystery I've been hearing about doesn't sound so great

she may get her arm chopped off.

That's just a disgusting thing to do to the character, I have no words :/

People on my flist have been talking about it will be set up as some kind of soap opera question of whether it's Angel, Xander, someone she had black-out sex with?

Well I'm hearing the stuff from my friends rather han reading it myself (I gave up on that a while back), but I know about the blackout sex, just not who is supposed to be the father. Buffy having Xander's baby is even worse than if it was Angel, and isn't Angel not supposed to be able to have kids unless they're little twerps called Connor?

Not invited! Such BS. Why is it that genre shows only get attention when they're on pay cable even is less people watch them.

They have responded now

“We’re sorry you’re upset the cast of Supernatural wasn’t featured on The People’s Choice Awards. The show is comprised of 43 categories and we made every effort to showcase a variety of categories on the network broadcast. Unfortunately, only 14-15 of those categories can fit into a two hour television show.

The cast of Supernatural was not invited because their acceptance speeches were not being aired. The cast was aware of this and chose not to attend, but had they expressed an interest in attending the show, we would have gladly provided them with tickets. We appreciate you taking the time to write.

VeronicaP&G Entertainment Team”

It's interesting that Best Comedy, Best New Drama, and Best Network Comedy were all aired in the final three slots, all CBS shows, yet no mention of Best Drama in the show at all

SPN lost me a while back, for the most part, but that's just freakin' ridiculous that they weren't invited, or that the results weren't aired. WTF?

Edited 'cause I forgot the "n't" in the first weren't, lol.

Jensen gets asked about it here and he seems confused about it too

http://frelling-tralk.tumblr.com/post/15971672407/rocksaltnow-so-were-you-guys-like-invited

It's really frustrating when all the other award shows make a big deal about Best Drama and it's one of the biggest/final awards of the night, but when SPN wins it's suddenly not a big enough deal to include in the show :sighs:

Totally agree. It's not like it's what could be considered a "tiny" category - Best Drama should be a big deal.

They deserved to be treated better and get the recognition for their win.
