I had a feeling that Damon was too angry in the moment to pick up on Jeremy's ring, so I like that the show confirmed that for us in a pretty intense scene with him and Elena. Nice character growth for him there, but no Damon you don't get to take the moral high ground with Elena and her similarities to Katherine, not after you snapped her little brothers neck

Matt is getting seriously tiresome. I would see his point if Caroline was giving HIM a hard point about staying faithful, but all she did was warn off one girl (who very clearly was into Matt), and he completely flies off the handle at her? Not cool. His reaction in the first scene was ridiculously out of proportion, but in the second scene with the flirty girl (can't remember her name :P ) I got the impression that Caroline was deliberately pushing his buttons to end things between them and keep him safe. Kind of sad how easy he was to convince to drop Caroline though :/ He always seems way too focused on pointing out Caroline's insecurities, and I'm really starting to think she could do so much better. If anything I'm starting to note the great chemistry she has with Stefan, although I'm 90% sure the show would never go there. It was so cute how Stefan was on the verge of laughter with her several times, it reminded me a bit of his more light-hearted friendship with Lexie

I liked Bonnie more this week, I thought she worked well as the realist about the vampires, delivering a stern warning to Caroline about what will happen if she does lose control of her urges again. My only real issue is that I would have liked to have seen the actress play it a little more conflicted between wanting to do what she saw as the right thing and wanting to help her friend. Instead Stefan practically had to twist her arm into giving Caroline sunlight access, but it wasn't just a matter of convenience for Caroline. Without a ring she'd start missing school, no longer going out in daylight, and her life would have been endangered once the council picked up on that, so really she needed that ring

I loved the opening montage, the ending of season 5 and opening of season 6 really seem to be going for the nostalgia factor with all those past clips. It wasn't my favourite episode after though, it felt very slow moving up until the scene where Sam returns. I mean yeah I got that they were trying to build tension, but it still dragged a bit for me *shrugs*

I liked the writing of Lisa a lot more in this episode, it was a relief that they finally gave her more of a personality. I would have liked to have seen a bit more of Dean's interaction with Ben though, the kid hardly had a presence and it was kind of odd to see so little of Ben's miniDean attitude after the show pushed it so heavily in the original season 3 episode. I'm glad they'll be sticking around for a few episodes anyway (after not being sure about Lisa's role in the show last season, they sold me on them). Dean's hallucination was nicely creepy too

I'm really disappointed in Sam and Bobby not letting Dean know about Sam's return. It would be different if Sam was just supposed to be dead even, but he was also in hell (which Dean has experienced for himself) and how could they both leave Dean to believe that his brother was agony in hell for an entire year?? Sam seems weirdly detached anyway so I'm not sure what exactly is going on with him, but I'm disappointed in Bobby! The confrontation with Bobby was nicely done though, I really liked how heartbroken Jensen played it.

I'm excited to find out more about what's up with Sam. I'm hoping for an emotional breakthrough with him soon, although doubtless there will not be another hug when it comes, because this season has already used up their yearly quota *eyeroll* (Seriously don't get what is up with the show only allowing two brothers to hug when one of them returns from the dead. There are other appropriate times for them to hug as well, like say when they were starting to reconcile in season 5, but oh well I guess they are just too manly!)

The Campbell cousins didn't make much of an impression on me, and the thought of them all hunting together doesn't really thrill me, so I'm hoping they will be phased out once Dean is ready to get back into the hunting life with Sam again. I hope they won't be hanging around all season anyway. I think they were part of what made me feel a bit alienated from the episode, it almost felt like the entire episode was an extended dream/hallucination of Dean's, although I presume what they were going for was to reboot the show and introduce a lot of new elements now that the apocalypse storyline is over with. It didn't really work for me in this episode, but I'm reserving judgment on how the season will go after this
