Nine episodes > others. I do love The Sound of Drums/Last of the Timelords for the John Simm factor though.

And I feel the same way about the season 3 finale too. I loved loved loved John Simm as the Master and The Sound Of Drums really worked for me but then it all fizzled out a bit in LOTTL when the Doctor was just an old man/trapped in a bird cage, and they lost the interesting connection between the Doctor and Master. I more like the season 3 ending for some of the individual scenes (the phone call, the Master's dance, the final death scene) which are some of my favourite ever, but overall the plotting wasn't the best IMO

I agree with you and lovepollution on this! s.3 for the Simm factor but s.1 overall (and because 9 still has my heart) . . .

Er, but that LOTTL really fell down. That too.

I'm actually quite surprised that LOTTL and JE are getting more votes than Doomsday because I remember most of fandom just hating them at the time what with Donna's mindwipe and floating Doctor

Absolutely right.

And it's funny because I don't think of fandom has having a short memory (more a long grudge-filled one, sometimes).

The first season of New!Who was the only one where I remember feeling unalloyed glee (as opposed to John Simm-related glee, or "ooh, it's Sarah Jane! And look, Martha and Rose actually like each other after all that! And Super!Donna" (before the oh d*** wtf have you just done to Donna?)) so that wins hands down for me.

I'm exactly the same! Season 1 was the only time that it felt like such a fantastically complete story for me. The emotional continuity in season 2 seemed all over the place with GITF following up SR, so that was more a case of loving one-off episodes like GITF, but the season as a whole not coming together for me in the same way.

And yes I had much glee for John Simm, but it did all become a bit anti-climatic with how little screentime he got to share with DT in the final episode. Plus the use of Lucy kind of disappointed me too after the "my faithful companion" scenes in The Sound Of Drums had me quite intrigued by the Master's relationship with her, only for it end with her just being the typical abused victim that he liked to slap around off-screen. The same with keeping the Doctor in the dog kennel and dressing up Martha's family as servents I suppose, it all seemed a bit petty and ordinary when I had wanted epic confrontations between the Doctor and Master (the cliff scene seemed over in mere seconds!), and really dealing with their past and the Time War. The phone call from TSOD is still my favourite scene from those two episodes I'd say

None of the series finales have really worked for me. (I think the strongest episodes are usually the two-episode ones in the middle.) But John Simm was awesome.

I generally prefer them too, Human Nature/Family Of Blood are still my all-time favourite episodes. They seem to go for more for big flashy effects for the finales. I voted POTW because the emotion as the Doctor and Rose part just kills me, plus I love Rose as Bad Wolf, but thinking about I'm not sure that the overall episode was that great. Most of the DW finales just seem to have certain scenes that really stand out to me and make them remember them as favourites

It would have been the season four lot if they hadn't brought Rose back. Again. For the millionth time.

EDIT: Which is not to say I don't love Rose, btw. I do. I just didn't like her part in those eps.q

I loved Rose in Turn Left and The Stolen Earth, but yeah I was pretty disappointed in how they portrayed her in Journey's End

That was a tough poll, because I genuinely love each finale to bits and pieces. But I went with AoG/Doomsday. The Torchwood set made for such beautiful scenes, the Daleks and Cybermen being pulled in right over their heads was awesome to see, and then of course the whole wall/beach scene just kills me every time.

But I love em all. How daaare you make me choose, lol!

I was surprised at how few votes Doomsday got actually! I always saw LOTTL and JE as being the finales which got the most hate and controversy online, whereas most people seemed to love Doomsday at the time?

I was surprised too! I was also kinda shocked at the time it aired to see JE get such negative reactions from fandom, given that I thought it was pretty awesome. Sure each finale has parts or aspects that could've been better if tweaked or changed, but on the whole, I think each finale stands out and brings on its fair share of epicness.

However, I'm probably in the minority in that I really do enjoy and love every single episode of New Who. Like I'll frequently hear things about how dumb Dobby!Doctor and Tinkerbell!Doctor were and how this or that in JE was unrealistic, but I can't help but love those things! I loved little Dobby!Doctor in his little suit, lol! With Smallville, I find so much that annoys me and makes no sense to me, but with Who it all kinda... works. I know I'm weird, and I'm rambling now, hah! :X

I chose S2 AoG/Doomsday for the same reasons as you, more for Doomsday and 'that' beach scene

Hee, yeah! I rewatched Doomsday the other day and even though I know what's coming, it still makes me so sad to see it all happen.

I'm gonna go with Bad Wolf/The Parting Of The Ways as I loved Nine and was literally on the edge of my seat watching those 2 eps and with those Daleks, all bets were off as to who was/wasn't going to make it out of Satellite 5 (or whatever it was called)...

It was really a struggle to decide between Bad Wolf/Parting of Ways and The Sound of Drums/Last of the Timelords. The former just had so much emotion to it - I litarally cried - and the latter had some of the best scripting and cinematic work that I had seen in the series. In the end, I had to go with The Sound of Drums/Last of the Timelords, mostly because TSoD was just so engaging and vivid, and I feel the avarage non-Who-watching person could enjoy it.

Oh seasons 1 and 3 were my favourites as well! I absolutely loved The Sound Of Drums, it was really Last of the Timelords that let it down for me as otherwise I was just as hyped up after The Sound Of Drums as I was for the season 1 finale. I think I mainly just felt let down with Last of the Timelords because I had been so excited for DT/JM scenes, and ultimately we never got more than about five minutes worth :/

Define favourite... if you mean "it's all fun fun fun (in a DW kind of way)" it's The Sound of Drums/Last of the Timelords. If you mean "it's pretty, and so awesome, but left me crying for five days" it's Stolen Earth/Journey's End. *is depressed*
