Squeeeee, John Simm is actually on the DVD cover!!! I was hoping that the Master would be on the cover, and he was on the one-off DVD cover as well so it was looking hopeful, and how awesome that he's on there. Look how pretty it looks *dances*

But umm wow, I would have expected Martha to be on there too, and all three characters to appear o_0 I'm kind of torn though, because even though I did like Martha and really Freema should get to be on there, I am just so thrilled at getting the hotness of John Simms on the cover, and the Doctor and the Master leaning against one another. How great does it look *sighs* So yeah I do feel bad for Freema, but at the same time I'm like squee the Doctor/Master got a cover together *shallow pointing* It's going to look so great on my shelf XD

It's just a shame that Martha won't be able to be on the season 4 cover instead. I don't know, maybe they'll have three people on then, with the Doctor/Donna/Martha?

There already is trouble with the Martha fangirls, and rightly so, IMO. (For once the fangirls have a point.)

And although that's a nice picture, I can't but help thinking the two of them look a little friendlier with regards to each other than they have any right to be :-)

That's what makes it even better though!! And they've both got their weapons out, and the Master is pointing his at the Doctor sort of *drools* Seeing as this season was the return of the Master, I think it's fair that he's on the cover instead of the companion this time, but it is unfortunate timing on top of the controversy over Freema being in Torchwood next year

So officially I do feel bad for the Freema slight, but the fangirl in me is just so thrilled at that cover.

I'm not a Martha fangirl but I do think she deserved to be on the cover. Maybe it's a reflection of the Master's popularity over hers? IDK.

It might be to do with billing as well? Because Freema was an unknown, and John Simms was the lead in LOM, so it was quite a big thing that they managed to get him for DW

With Simm likely to be returning as the Master, maybe they wanted to keep him prominent.

ZOMG seriously??!?? I was guttered that he only got two episodes, and such few scenes with DT (when DT was playing the proper young Doctor that is), so I would die if he does return for season 4. Just die

And they did reuse the Daleks ever such a lot, so I could certaintly stand season 4 finale ending with the Master again *g*

I've being hanging around the Life on Mars fans for the past week, they seem to know! Though I can't remember exactly we're I read it as I'm kind of John Simm neutral.

Sadly, I can't remember, so I can't back it up, but I think I read somewhere that someone heard it from a recent TV interview.

I'm hoping there's a bigass pic of Martha at the back (or maybe a pic of Jack and Martha in a similar pose ? That would be so cool !).

But yeah it's a shame for Freema since she did such a good job this season (and was in every single episodes).

Still. My selfish little slasher's heart is so blissed with PURE JOY that I'm not as scandalized as I should be. *slaps self*

Totally! The Saxon sub-plot , and "you are not alone" was running all through the year, and the most memorable moments in the finale were with him and the Doctor. He was last of the Timelords!!! So I think that yep, let him have his cover *g*

Maybe! Also it would be cool if there were two alternative covers, say for those who wanted the Doctor/Martha, and those who wanted Doctor/Master, but that would probably be too expensive to do I suppose

The season 2 boxset had a slipcase cover - ideally I'd like this one to have the same sort of cover with Doctor/Master on one side and Docto/Martha (or Martha/Jack) on the other.

Ah, I bet they do that then, because JB did get the big billing in his DW appearances as well, so yeah it would make sense to have Marth and Jack around somewhere as well. Just too many stars to accommodate for season 3 I guess *g*

I'm happy Simm is on the cover but I wish they used that Master/Doctor/Martha picture in front of the TARDIS.
It does suck that she's not there. She better be on season 4 cover with Doctor and Donna. >:)

Quite honestly, in terms of my being selfish fangirl, I much prefer it just being the two Timelords leaning against one another, so I absolutely adore this cover for my shelf. Sooo slashy. But then I remember Freema at the beginning of the year talking about it will be weird for her family to see on the DVD cover art, and I do feel bad for her, as she was obviously expecting it :/ It would have been nice if they could have sorted alternative covers, like they do with magazine covers sometimes.

I'm guessing that Freema just doesn't have as much leverage, considering that I believe DW is her first big role? But she did get to snog DT, play the DW companion for 13 episodes, and get a decent wage, so she comes out ahead in most respects still *g* She originally signed on for a very minor part in Army Of Ghosts/Doomsday, so turning out to be the new companion must have been awesome for her

SHE WAS A MAIN CHARACTER THIS SEASON! Maybe she's on one (or more than one... do they have character's on the discs/internal covering for dw?) of the discs?

I bet next year's cover is just either Tate/Tennant or The Doctor and the main bad guy. Or they could go "oh, fans thought we gypped Martha. Donna/Martha ftw! Who needs The Doctor on it anyway?"

I think DVD designers don't always think in terms of who had most screen time though, but tend to just go for characters they see as the most popular. Spike was on season 3 Buffy cover when he was in just one episode of 22, and Xander fans were always quite distressed over Xander not being on more covers, considering that NB was in every episode. But Spike and the Master are the same type of fan favourites that I guess they will be used more to sell a product, even if they're not the regulars

Smallville season 4 used the Lois and Clark picture to sell those DVDs, even though she was in only 13 of 22 episodes, and I hated it at the time *sighs* But it's the type of eye-catching image that Superman fans would recognise, and I guess that's what DVD retailers will go with. I was surprised that they didn't used Oliver for season 6 of SV actually lol, and he was only in 7 episodes

I do feel bad for Freema, as Doctor/Rose did set a precedent for the new series, and it must suck to be the first companion to not get a front cover. But if they release the back cover art, and it's a picture of Martha/Jack, that would be cool. I can't see that they would be able to get away with not having a picture of Martha anywhere on the DVD cover art, even if it is the back instead, or a slipcase cover

I agree with the fangirls on this one, mindblowingly hot as this is. I'm sure they could have worked in Martha and her resistance-gear somehow.

But maybe JB warranted a starring role on the cover art somewhere as well (because of JB and JS both being leads of their own series), so they may have had to find space for all four actors?. In which case, as doyle_sb4 suggested, there could be alternatives of Doctor/Master and Martha/Jack on either side of the cover? Especially now that Martha will be in Torchwood for a bit now, so pairing her with Jack would make sense. And the Master really wouldn't fit with being with Martha or Jack, so he kind of had to get the place by the Doctor's side *g*

Okay, it's now sounding like there will be two covers after all (maybe?), and the Master/Doctor will be the limited edition cover. I WILL HAPPILY PAY MORE FOR THE TIMELORD LIMITED COVER!!!

It seems strange that it would be the limited edition cover that they're using to promote the DVDs though, because won't some people be pissed if they end up with the regular cover instead, when they were expecting DT/JS?

OMG that is super hot. If I was ever tempted to buy one of those ridicously priced seasons, that DVD cover art would definitly do the trick. SO HOT.

I might also love it because I just KNOW that DW fandom will be freaking out about it (when doesn't DW fandom freak out about things though?) I'm sure, as we speak, there are posts going up on the interwebs about how "OMGRacist!" the DVD designers are.

And seriously, the Beeb's prices suck! £80 for 13 episodes??? I just hope we finally get the season 1 deleted scenes and gag reels with this set, I've waited long enough for the CE/JB snog!

I'm sure it'll somehow end up either the fault of Rose fen, Doctor/Rose shippers, RTD or Sesame Street. I think that's the order of "evil" in the DW fandom. :P

They realy, really do. Those DVDs are soooo expensive. I didn't know that the first two sets didn't even have gag reels or deleted scenes though. Now that *really* sucks. And wait- there was s JB/CE kiss?! Maybe I shouldn't stay so far away from DW fandom or I would have known this. :P

The second DVD has a gag reel and deleted scenes, but the first misplaced the footage at the time apparently. RTD promised to include them on the season 2 DVDs instead, once they were found but then they weren't on there *sighs*

And there was a Nine/Jack kiss in TPOTW, and JB mentioned that there were fun outtakes of the two of them rolling around on the floor together, and I need to see them! There was also apparently an alternative ending for season 1 where Rose dies instead (in order to keep CE's departure a secret). I don't think it was filmed though sadly, but how much would I kill to see that if it in fact was!!! And there's the very brief clip we got of the Dalek hug on Blue Peter, I'd love to have a proper quality deleted scene of that.

I was squeeing all over the cover that it didn't even sink into my mind that Martha (the actual companion!) was omitted. AND I LOVE MARTHA! *facepalm*

I hope that Freema does get a cover because she does deserve it. The idea about slip-on covers is good. Aside from that, I wish that the cover isn't photoshopped like the promo pics obviously were. Because John Simm and David Tennant in a photoshoot posing and being all cute together? SQUEE!

Well apparently there's a possibility of JS coming back, which *dies happy* The ending did seem to be setting that up, but I was worried it would be with a new actor, and the Master regenerating. I'd be so thrilled if it was more of JS instead!

JS returning will be just be utter win. And then more Doctor/Master, DT and JS acting off one one another scenes! *flails*

This John Simm Master better be good because all the hype I've heard about him has been pissing me off. If he isn't good I'll be wheeling out my full-on bashing Angel-style.

And yeah Martha should be on the cover, rather than a renovation of one of Doctor Who's corniest villains ever.

I think he's really awesome, especially in episode 12. You should really catch up with the rest of season 3 DW, it gets brilliant in the second half

I've started watching Wonderfalls BTW, I've seen the first 8 episodes so far. You were right about it being a really good show :)

Yeah, I can see them either doing that, or having a Doctor/Donna only cover, but that would cause its own upset after this season not having Doctor/Martha at the front. Freema should get to be on TW DVD sets as well though next year...

I laughed because I'm mean, but then I remembered Smallville s4 dvd's and I felt bad because I was so pissed off about that. So yeah Martha fans do have something to be pissed off about, but this time they can direct their hatred on marketing peeps.

Apparently Martha is going to be on it after all, just on the back cover, with Doctor/Master getting the front. So that's all right then. I can now buy my hot Timelord cover, without feeling bad about Freema's exclusion :D
