A lot of Doctor Who fans seem to loathe Ten/Rose and the "fangirls". It's really amusing me, especially when I see comments about Nine/Rose not seeming that bad in comparison now.

Hee, it's just this is probably the first time ever that I'm not shipping the couple that annoys lots of other fans *eyes Spuffy and Lexana*

I was browsing [livejournal.com profile] time_and_chips and someone made a comment about I also draw a HUGE line between the S/B Shippers (who were fairly sane) and Spuffy shippers who started teh madness. Pfft. I've always called myself a Spuffy shipper, as far as I'm aware all S/B shippers do. It even feels weird typing it as S/B instead of Spuffy :P

And this is random, but I lost half a stone along with my wisdom teeth, after the not eating properly, and now I'm panicking over gaining it back :/

Oddly, I agree with every line of this post, right down to the teeth. Although I'm not sure how much a Spuffer I was. I was more anti-anti-Spuffy rather than mad for the ship itself.

It was also impressive how much the show sold me Lexana. I hadn't really considered it before they showed it and then it worked! This may have something to do with how much I hate Clark, though.

Oh the Lexana thing was mad for a while there lol. Like 4 or 5 people defriended me on the same day I had my first positive Lexana post, and a couple of them I had considered fairly good friends :/

And Spuffy seems to cause lots of controversy as well. It feels very weird to not be shipping the couple that lots of general fans in comms are complaining about being irritated by *g*

Apparently S/B shippers are not as bad as Spuffy shippers. But I don't know any shipper of the pairing, that objects to being called a Spuffy. We're all Spuffies if we ship them, as far as I know!

And hee, I know lots of DW fans loathe both Rose ships. But there does seem to be more dislike for Ten/Rose. Maybe because it's more recent/more popular. Nine/Rose don't seem to be disliked as much these days, from what I've seen, and it is strange for me to not be shipping the type of couple that the rest of fandom finds scandalous in some way hee

Actually, I don't know any of the oldtime S/B shippers (from season 2/3) who call themselves spuffy shippers. Personally, I hate the smushed names and never use them. There does seem to be a distinction these days, Spuffiers being touted as the insane shippers. *shrug*

Oh that's interesting, all the Spuffy discussions I've ever had seem to involve people calling themselves Spuffy, so I wasn't aware of that. Even LJ com's call themselves names like spuffy haven or seasonal spuffy

So I take it they're like oldskool shippers who were into an early season ship with evil Spike, and no longer ship them?

Yeah, some of the older fans definitely aren't very impressed with shipping in DW. And of course the season 2 finale was all about mourning the loss of the ship, so it was hard to avoid for people who hate the ship anyway (I never hated it, just thought Ten/Rose worked better as friends).

TPOTW was very shippy as well, what with the kiss and everything, but they kind of slipped that in there as part of the regeneration, and the parting happens right in the last few lines. Whereas the angst over losing one another is quite long and intense at the beach scene, so perhaps more objected because of that as well. It would leave the ending of the finale quite hollow, if you aren't a shipper at all. I cried at the time because of the Rose angst and tears though, it really got to me.

Of course the term "Spuffy" is a more recent one. It was a derogatory term for the people who liked that 'ship once it started to become a mainstream 'ship, and the Spuffies adopted it in defiance.

Because, of course, if it's popular, it just isn't cool.

Except I hate Ten/Rose. Blech.

I don't get Ten/Rose so much. It seemed like a lot of early season 2 wasn't even that shippy for the characters. NE had the kiss between the Doctor and Cassandra, and it didn't really involve Rose at all. TGITF threw in a random reunion hug for them, but spend the episode with the Doctor falling in love with someone else. SR with the Doctor holding hands with Sarah-Jane etc. I remember complaints at time and chips at the ship being overlooked. They did catch up with it later, but I never got the sense that Ten ever did want to be more than friends. Whereas in The Doctor Dance's, they both wanted it soo much, but couldn't quite get there.

If any of that makes sense *g*

Gotta throw my $.02 in here FWIW....

I just entered 'fandoms' around the time of Farscape and when I asked someone what a 'shipper' was it was explained to me that it's someone who likes the relationships in programs. To which I promptly pronounced myself a shipper. Cause see I LIKE watching relationships develop amongst characters. Not just romantic relationships, but friendships, parent relationships, even enemy relationships. :) I loved watching John and D'argo become friends through the course of Farscape. Enemies that grew to become best friends...it's great!

And I liked Rose/the Doctor. Both doctors. The whole idea of that relationship and that this little 'ape' helped him overcome the pain of losing Gallifrey and everyone he ever loved. And she made him 'healthy' again. And THAT is what I love about their relationship.

And the end of S2? I think it was most heartbreaking because it wasn't the choice either of them had made...and Rose sacrificed herself. But I don't think that the Doctor shouldn't have another companion or that he shouldn't care about anyone else. (I loved the Fireplace ep cause it shook up their relationship AND it seemed to be so light and freeing for him. I have a fic planned for this actually that shows he was freed a little from being 'The Doctor' for a while and just felt loved for himself.)

Oooh...did I just get defriended by a bunch of people?? LOL!

A lot of Doctor Who fans seem to loathe Ten/Rose and the "fangirls".

I never loathed Ten/Rose, I just wasn't a big fan of it, they annoyed me and I loved Nine/Rose, as you already know ;). To each their own, why don't other people understand that?

If you're a shipper, you're a shipper, what's a name, right? I wasn't much of a shipper when it came to Buffy, I loved the show and just went along with what it gave me. Except I was all for Willow/Oz, and came around to Willow/Tara pretty fast. Unfortunately I can't say much about Spuffy because I had trouble watching later seasons! But they definitely made an interesting pair.

I seem to be drawn to the daggy/hated ships these days... Kara/Lee in BSG, now Ten/Rose. Though, I have to say that though I'm totally charmed by Ten, I am holding out hopes that we'll get someone better to ship him with now...
