You made me pick. *sobs*

I was actually a hair's breadth away from picking S4, just because of all the possibility...but S7 won out in the end. *g*

Season 7 usually does win out *g* I always feel weird for not picking season7 for favourite Spuffy. Yes that one had the more obvious love *points to icon* But something about season 6 Spuffy in all its fucked up glory *sighs* So much love for Tabula Rasa, Smashed, Dead Things. And there's the beautiful Afterlife hand-holding as well

I was actually a hair's breadth away from picking S4, just because of all the possibility...

Season 5 is the season I love for the potential of Spuffy slowly building up and teasing us, and that actually has my favourite Spike out of all the seasons...

Season 4 has Something Blue, as well as Superstar face touching and WAY come-on. And then there's season 2 with the awesome beginning of the dance. Oh they're all great :P

They all really, really are.

If S6 hadn't gone down the drain with the "abuse" thing, then I would've picked it--but the writing wasn't quite tight enough for me to be able to enjoy it. I always roll my eyes when Buffy accuses Spike of making "moon eyes".

That being said, I love all the seasons--and Grave is one of my favorite eps. So it all balances out.

Grave and TTG are actually among my least favourite episodes *g* I think season 6 starts falling apart towards the end, when it concentrates on Willow more than Buffy. Buffy's end of the depression, as she climbs from the grave, felt very rushed.

I did like Villains mind you, but the final two-parter was IMO padded out, while at the same time rushing through Willow's dark moments. I thought those episodes with the flashy special effects, and threat to the world, went against what season 6 was trying to do earlier in the season

re: the flashy special effects and the apocalypse--very true, all of it. I never liked Willow's arc, simply because it was ridiculously obvious in terms of being a metaphor, but I did like the tail end of Grave--Willow breaking down and Buffy and Dawn fighting together.

But yes, the later parts of the season seem to veer off course.

What you said, pretty much word for word, season for season. Went with S5 this time, because I also find Spike to me most intensely Spike in S5. (In S6 and S7 both he's being tested to destruction, which uncovers amazing things, but he's so beautiful when he's only under the influence of love, the chip, and his demon self.)

I loved season 5 Spike so much. The debates he caused *g*

I found James's expressive performance at its height during that season. All the little moments like Intevention when he tells the bot to "just be Buffy", or his face as the door closes in Crush.

Oh, yes. Above and beyond facial expressions to something more like watching a projective empath.

None of them ;-)

Actually, I like the snark between them in season four.

I had a tough choice between S6 and S7. I love the horrible dysfunctionality of S6 and the friendship and trust of S7, and if there'd only been the S6 relationship or only the S7 relationship, I don't think I'd ship Spike/Buffy, but put those two seasons together and you pretty much hit all my kink buttons.

Incidentally, the first time I ever considered the idea of Spike/Buffy was some time after seeing S3 (and to my defense, at the time I had seen only S3) when I happened across "Seeing Red" spoilers on the internet and my reaction was more or less "Buffy and the funny drunk vampire in "Lover's Walk"? Talk about random pairings..." :)

That's fantastic!
I managed to miss "School Hard" until well into S3 or S4, but that melt-to-human moment as Dru appears still hit me like a fist in the face.

Lol!

I first shipped them after the Out Of My Mind ending. With FFL's ending making an obsessive shipper out of me.

The season 4 teasing went right over my head at the time. Even with Something Blue, I never considered shipping them from that. Although I wasn't on the internet then *g*

That was my vote, but seasons 5 and 7 are both beating it...

I mean I love season 7 for concluding Spuffy in such a beautiful way, and giving us what we had ben waiting for.

But season 6 is just so beautifully fucked up. The door scene in DT (are you drowning or waving...I just want you to save me...and the barrriers are all self-made). The Smashed ending. The Tabula Rasa kisses. How could I not choose that season :D

My lips are sealed :D

Yeah, season 5 was the one with the most potential for Spuffy to go either way. And you've gotta love "I made a promise to a lady" *sighs*

Gah, so torn between 5,6, and 7. Because i loved so many 5 moments, and 6 was that lovely darkness and pain and 7 was just this wonderful...resolution. I finally just had to choose resolution, but it was haaaard :P

Ohh - Afterlife is one of my favourite Buffy episodes ever! All the bits with Spike are amazing, and I love the mood of the whole episode, music and all.

I love most of Jane Espenson's episodes, funny or nor funny :-)

I'm a season 5 girl. That's when I most ENJOYED shipping them... when there was so much potential in them that hadn't been driven into so very odd and immeasurably painful places.

Yes, there was so much potential in which direction the writers would take it. Some terrific fic written in that time
