Why are Steven DeKnight's Smallville episodes so bad? I don't understand it, he was all right on Buffy. Then he gives us crap like Ageless and Spell. And Thirst doesn't look much better *sigh* I hope the ratings don't go down like they did after Spell..

I wanted proper focus on the mythology and the ending of dumb episodes about Lana becoming a witch or a lesbian vampire *pouts* Those type of campy episodes never seem to help ratings.

Fine's scene does look good though!

I know how you feel. A friend of mine used to watch Charmed (does anybody watch that show anymore?) and they were always coming up with lame excuses to put them in skimpy costumes and act OOC sexy. Here's hoping they don't decide to make Lana a mermaid.

Still, I think I'll enjoy the Fine subplot to no end; but the mainline story for that ep doesn't thrill me.

And I adore your icon.

More like they'd bring in Clark's college sweetheart Lori Lemaris who actually was one. Apparently.

I never knew of anyone who wasn't Lana or Lois myself ;)

They saddled him with Lanacentric eps. Even the bestest writers can't salvage those.

Eeek your icon! *hides*

And I'm confused because he got handled some pretty awful stuff on Bts and Ats too, and made gold out of it. I mean the episode where Cordy/Conner sleep together, Spike trying to rape Buffy were both his episodes.

Yeah, I remember when he was hired there was a squee 'round fandom about how he was good on Buffy. But he doesn't seem to get that this is Smallville not Buffy and keeps writing these lame ass episodes that don't fit in the show or in the arcs.

After he was hired following season 3, I was gushing about the wonderful dark angst he would write. I thought he was perfect for developing Clark/Lex considering the Buffy/Spike episodes he wrote. And yet none of his episodes have stood out as doing a lot in that respect.

Actually, I thought DeKnight was one of the BEST Buffy writers. (DEAD THINGS?) I dont know why he can't write for SMALLVILLE.

Yeah I agree he was so good. I loved Dead Things, and Seeing Red is the type of episode I can at least appreciate as well-written *g* And on Ats he wrote Apocalypse Nowish and Inside Out where Conner kills an innocent and is haunted by Darla. So yeah great writer.

Well actually he did write All The Way and Blood Ties which pretty much sucked. But otherwise he has a strong track record. And his episodes on SV have been bad. Kind of a let-down after I was all excited about him writing for SV :/

While I admit that 'Spell' and 'Ageless' are very much of the suck, he did write 'Run', 'Onyx', and 'Mortal' and co-wrote 'Unsafe' which are very good IMO.

I don't think the fact that his two sucky ones are Lana-centric ones is a coincidence.

He wrote and directed Ageless, but even A&M admit it had nothing redeeming about it. And if anything Spell was saved by the direction. The writing was just awful.

I'll give him Run *g*, but while I love Onyx I don't think it was necessarily that well-written. Maybe that's me being too hard on him, but it was more the premise and MR's performance that stood out there, rather than a first-class script *shrugs* If anything lines like, "I am the villain of the story", could have really brought the cheese if they weren't saved by MR's delivery. I guess I'lll see if he surprises me with Thirst *g*

Well what I think was special abot BTVS was, it was sort of a collective thing they decided things together, well for the most part, until the later seasons.

that could be he just doesn't have a strong supporting crew.

He's going for the hat-trick after SR and AN slaughtered the ratings of both of his previous shows?

Or he just doesn't know where to draw a line.
