I'm weirdly sad about this. I'm actually enjoying this season. It just seemed like something that would be around forever. However, I'm sure that this was Jared and Jensen's decision. The network probably would have blindly renewed it for years to come.

I am too, even though I still need to catch up with seasons 11-14, but the show did almost feel like it would follow Sam and Dean into their old age at one point. It leaves you feeling a bit weirdly empty to know that next season is going to be it

And yeah I think that this seasons episode count being cut to 20 was probably a sign that Jensen and Jared were starting to struggle with the workload, and who can really blame them? It must be hard for them though because of how close the set is as a family, they’re not going to get the same opportunities to work together again like that after SpN, so it must have been a tough decision

S11 has some really good episodes, Have fun! ;)
I don't even know how I feel. Until S5, everyone always seemed worried if it would be renewed or not. Then at one point it just seemed like a given that SPN would continue.

When the shorter season was announced, I thought that it would be the start of a trend. I could totally picture SPN with 12-15 episode seasons. I think that's why I'm more surprised. I thought the seasons would just get shorter from now on.

The CW brilliantly put Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell together in a show again, including jokes about escaping prison. Maybe they'll manage to do a SPN reunion, too.

I am surprised in a way that they had 23 episodes (which is longer than the average show length of 22 episodes anyway) for as long as they did, and then only switched to 20 episodes for the final two. Especially when you would hear about them being overworked, and Castiel’s character partly being used in seperate subplots to them more of a break, so why not just lose the extra episode?

And certainly it could have been an option for them as well to have half seasons like many other shows do on the CW, I am surprised that the most the seasons were ever cut down to was 20 episodes right near the end, but I guess that they were happiest with the format of spending a year in the life of Sam and Dean? At least I’m sure they could have negotiated a different episode format with the CW a while ago if they had wanted too, and maybe instead just spend half the year on filming, but it does seem like they were happiest with 20+ episodes for as long as the show was running

I actually didn't know that! Yeah, doesn't make sense.

I always assumed that the network wanted it that way. At some point at least Jared and Jensen would have had enough clout to negotiate not just salary but also episode numbers.

At least that was what I was told anyway when I was wondering about Castiel being used separately so much in his own subplots with the angels, even though most fans prefer to see him in scenes with Sam and Dean, it was suggested that they use him in his own subplots in order to give the two leads more of a break. I heard the same thing about Ruby and Bella being introduced back in season 3 actually, that Jared and Jensen are always encouraging more cast members to be added so that they can lighten their own workload a little bit and not have to carry every scene by themselves

And yes I assume it’s mostly the network that preferred to have SPN on year round, it’s still their second highest rated show even after all these years! It seems like Jared and Jensen could have easily requested a different episode order though surely if they had wanted to lighten their workload, but perhaps even the final seasons only being cut to 20 episodes rather than say 16 or less suggests that they didn’t really feel like that was an option open to them for whatever reason?

I remember hearing that about Ruby and Bela back in the day. Too bad they were not that well received.

Yeah, I don't know. It doesn't make sense, especially when you consider that they also always did a lot of conventions. That seems to have died down a little or maybe it's just the fact that I'm not really following that closely anymore.

I haven’t watched regularly in a long time either...I’m just caught up to season 10 so far, but it’s so easy to fall behind when there’s so much television on these days, and SPN’s 23 episode seasons could feel a bit overwhelming once you fell behind and had a few to catch up with

I am wondering though if news of the show coming to a close might encourage more viewers to start catching up and finish the show now that there’s an endpoint?

You can tell too that Jared has been crying a lot over the decision, both him and Misha have such red eyes :(

I hate endings :sighs:

And after I watched the one and only episode that was the Scooby Doo animated one, I told myself I wanted to watch the series. Now is my chance.

I've watched since the pilot and will miss my "comfort" tv. Have never been in the fandom, nor shipped anything, so have avoided all the drama and just enjoyed the show for what it is. Amazing that in the early years it narrowly dodged being canceled a few times and then achieved this extraordinary longevity!

Heh yes, I seem to remember there were postcard campaigns after the first season because everyone was worried back then about the WB cancelling it!

I haven’t kept up with SPN in present time for a while now admittedly, but it’s still always been a presence on my flist, always been a show that you’re aware of, and certainly I still kept up with the occasional fanfic and fan video even while no longer watching ‘live’. And to think that I was still in my early 20’s when it first began airing :feels very old:

I’m guessing that Jensen and Jared will want to take a year or so off to spend with their families, and maybe just do the occasional convention on the weekends?

Definitely feeling sad about this! It did feel like ending after 300 eps or at season 15 would be a nice round number to end at, but still surprising to actually see this announcement coming now. Obviously, the show has to end at some time and while I have been enjoying the current season, it did feel like "okay, how many times can these guys be near death/the world supposedly about to end and have us still care about it." But I'm still surprised and sad. It doesn't help at how clearly upset, especially Misha and Jared looked.

At least they are ending it on their terms and can concentrate on making it a good sendoff, but yes it is still really sad, the final montage to ‘Carry on my wayward son’ is going to be a tough one :(

I am not watching the show anymore, haven't for many years and stopped somewhere in the middle. I think Season 7 or something like that...

2 of my friends flew all the way over to Las Vegas this week to attend a Supernatural Con and when I sent them the video last night, they both responded to me very angry, how dare I destroying their vacation and stuff (because they are staying there for another week after the Con to do some Sightseeing), and how I am a bad friend for not waiting till they are back...

I mean, I REALLY didn't think much of it, and I thought if you are at a SUPERNATURAL Convention you SURELY must get the news SOMEHOW? But obviously they were both still oblivious and now won't talk to me... uhm... ok...

I personally would want to know these things, ESPECIALLY if I am at a Con for said show and have the chance to "say good-bye" in person so to speak. I was very glad to know iZOMBiE was ending, because I was able to thank David and Bryce for the great job they have done, even if "only" for 5 years...

I am really sorry for everyone who lost their favorite show (and I know how much this show means to lots of people), and I know how that feels, really... I just don't understand why I now get so much "hate" from them...

That is a bizarre reaction to have, I would definitely expect the show ending to be a big topic of conversation at a SPN convention?!

I thought so too. I have no idea how it could NOT be, and the two of them are still angry and not talking to me, "ghosting" me right no. I mean, I think they will calm down eventually, but I don't really get it... I mean, I personally would want to KNOW if my favorite show gets canceled, and I would rather see it as a good thing to be surrounded by a friend and tons of strangers who feel the same. I am usually alone and no one is sad "with me" when I lose a favorite show, but oh well...

I haven’t watched since season eight or something but I’m glad to see how much it has thrived since then. Fifteen seasons is a lot but also a good number to finish it off at too.

And at least there are plenty of episodes there for fandom to discuss and rewatch forever, it’s hard to run out of things to talk about when you have 15 years worth of canon!
