Oh I think you're right actually! That vaguely rings a bell, I've been remembering it the wrong way round. It was on BBC2 when it first became an unexpected hit, then when they switched it to BBC1 it died because of how they were scheduling it or something? They did keep airing them right up to the end at least, but I remember something changing with where it went in the schedule, and it wasn't much of a hit in the UK after that. Mulder and Scully were always hugely recognisable icons in pop culture, but not many people were actually watching the later seasons.
