Finally all caught up with season 2 of Daredevil!
Karen and Foggy are among my favourite characters and I've been surprised to come across quite a bit of dislike for them, I felt like their frustration at how much Matt was isolating himself came across as very understandable. It's still the more grounded aspects of Superhero shows that really draws me in, so scenes with those two were usually among my favourites actually. I was really happy at how it ended up with Karen as a journalist, although I do want Matt and Foggy to get back into business eventually! I also loved the intro of Frank and Elektra, and of course I ended up shipping Matt with Elektra, those toxic relationships do seem to be my thing in fandom :P
The main thing that season 2 was missing for me was the sort of compelling antagonist that we got with Fisk in season 1, the Ninjas weren't really the same for me, especially as aspects of that plotline didn't seem very clearly defined. Episode 9 was one of my favourites when we got to see how Fisk was building up his powerbase in prison, the storylines with The Hand just didn't grip me in the same way.
Also it felt like Matt got kind of lost in the shuffle this year unfortunately, first with the Punisher, and then with Elektra. The writers were obviously wanting to present Matt as being torn between the two sides of himself that Karen and Elektra represented, but IMO it came across that Matt/Elektra completely overshadowed all of that because you could kind of tell that that was what the writers were really into and excited about writing, so it came across as more of an arc involving Elektra first, rather than being truly focused on Matt.
And Matt/Karen isn't a couple that I'm opposed to by any means, but it did feel kind of rushed and half-hearted in comparison to Matt/Elektra. I barely picked up on any vibes that the writers were planning on going there in season 1, it always seemed like more of a one-sided crush on Karen's side back then, and so Idk I couldn't help feeling that half the reason the writers wanted to rush into their first date and kiss was just so that they could contrast them with Elektra's influence on Matt? And then I wasn't thrilled with Matt's characterisation in the finale, he was drawing away from his friends in the first place because he was so passionate about defending "his city", he says as much to Claire about how guilty he feels at not always being there to stop everything, but then he was apparently prepared to run off with Elektra and leave Hell's Kitchen without protection? Not such a great season for Matt!
