I completely get what you mean about recent series being generally consistent, but generally without any stand outs (although I think I need to re-watch as I've only watched those episodes once!)
Yeah I think that's why I haven't had much to say about DW lately, being just okay is generally the kiss of death for me, I get much more invested if there's episodes to really rave or rant about. But then I have seen discussion of series 9 being one of the best yet, so I suppose that everyone's opinions differ :shrugs: I've just found series 9 and its two-partners to mostly be pretty traditional DW, whereas I'm much more invested in character studies of the Doctor and his companion than I am in the weekly guest casts.
