But fans didn't know that at the time. I think it was a big error on the part of ME to not let the audience in on it being Jasmine earlier.
I kinda agree with what you're saying below regarding Charisma, but at the same time I do wonder why they didn't reveal it to the viewer. In S2, Joss was so adamant Angelus be in vampface when killing Jenny because he knew fans would associate Angel with that if he were in normal face and he didn't want Buffy kissing the visage that killed Jenny. So it is kinda odd he'd have Cordy doing all this stuff knowing fans would associate it with her even if it's later revealed it wasn't really.
That said, there were rumors of CC being a problem prior to the pregnancy and I got the impression S4 would likely have been her last year even without it.
