Well, it's my way of dealing with all the inconsistencies in Joyce's behavior. Joyce being harsh to Buffy never bothered me (the main issue that gets her so much hate from Tumblr users). Joyce being unconcerned and NOT ENOUGH harsh - did. Given Buffy's previous mental and criminal issues Joyce's light attitude doesn't make sense. So - it's either "Buffy is exaggerating" or "Joyce is brain-damaged".
