"The WB 20th anniversary: Ranking all 32 of the network's dramas from worst to best "
I thoroughly approve of Buffy, Dawson's Creek, and Gilmore Girls being the top three <3 And hmm Felicity is #4, I never actually watched that show, but I've been wondering lately if it might be worth checking out as a lot of people seem to like it? There have been soooo many high-school based shows, it might be a nice change of pace to watch one focused on the college years for a change :P (Oh and Angel is #5, Smallville is #6, Roswell is #10, and Supernatural is #11)

Date: 2015-01-13 03:39 pm (UTC)I kinda wanna rewatch DC but I refuse to buy those DVDs with the different soundtrack (wonder if they ever got that sorted) and original airing rips are non existent, it seems. :(

Date: 2015-01-13 03:59 pm (UTC)I felt like the core of the show should have continued with putting the human element first, not sending Max off to New York for alien summits, or the clones of the 'Royal Four' turning up XD

Mostly speaking for Buffy, Angel and Smallville (I only casually caught any other shows). I really do wish the WB hadn't stopped existing as, between UPN and The CW, both shows' later seasons suffered in various ways, by most accounts due to network interference. I will say that Buffy held my loyalty and interest way more than SV did, though. Poor Angel just got shit-canned on a cliffhanger. :(

Date: 2015-02-01 10:10 am (UTC)And I miss the WB too :( It seemed like there was more of a family feel back then with the stars all appearing in ads together for the network, and it was really the young people's networks with all of the teen drama that it had, whereas The CW never seemed to know what it wanted to do. They seem to be going more of the Sci-Fi/action franchise these days I guess? Which is cool, but (even though I'm admittedly too old for them these days lol) I miss when the WB was heavily focused around teen shows like Buffy, Roswell, Dawson's Creek etc, it just felt like they had more of a unifying theme of what they wanted to do I guess, rather than constantly taking shots in the dark with failed shows like The CW does

Date: 2015-02-02 02:23 am (UTC)They kept renewing them and they interfered where they could, but I really think they wanted a teen-friendly network of non-scifi/fantasy shows and wished they'd go away, not realizing that teens are as discerning as adults and just want shows aimed at them to be well-done,genre or not.
I suppose, after Vampire Diaries took off, they realized sci-fi and supernatural drama is where they get the fanbase that sticks and put all their eggs in that basket. How times have changed.
I don't know if this new direction happening sooner would have saved SV in the final seasons, but I think the paltry effects budget would have been better, at the very least.

Date: 2015-02-02 04:48 pm (UTC)With shows like Gossip Girl, they seemed to be favoured over SV because the demo that they attracted still brought in far more money than Smallville when it came to what they could charge for ad spots during that show, even though their actual ratings always seemed pretty bad to me, but I'm not sure exactly how it all works
