Which TV shows did you start watching in 2014?

From Dusk Till Dawn, Pretty Little Liars, and The Good Wife were ~the big three~ that I fell in love with and became my new shows. I've already had several entries discussing TGW and PLL, so I'll skip talking about them again! I loved From Dusk Till Dawn a whole lot, I just didn't think of much to say about it at the time. But basically I fell in love with the characters, the setting, and well everything really *g* I don't know how anyone could not love a show with two hot brothers who are in a totally co-dependent relationship, are also professional bank robbers, and then when you throw vampires into the mix *helpless shrug*

Which TV shows did you mean to get into but didn't in 2014? Why?

I watched Homeland a few months ago, and talked about my reasons for not getting into it here. Basically that it was obviously well-done, but just not my thing.

Gotham was one where I was excited by the trailer and by Ben Mackenzie, but the comic book campiness of it wasn't something that I could get into.

And honestly I think that I would add The Flash as well. I talked about enjoying it in previous entries, and that's still true, but more and more I was finding that I was only enjoying the show on a superficial I wonder what's going to happen next kind of level. Unfortunately I'm just not emotionally invested in the characters, and that's why it's not clicking for me. Obviously I enjoyed the comic book theme with Smallville, I spend ten years caring way too much about that show, but I think the difference for me was that I immediately emphasised with Lex's character and became super-invested in him, and then there was Chloe, Tess, Clark etc. Whereas with The Flash I find that I don't really invest in the main characters in the same way, that I couldn't care less quite frankly if Barry ends up with Iris or Caitlin. I'm most interested in Well's character and the question marks there, so I do want to catch a few more episodes, but I just don't have that love for the characters which causes me to become full-on obsessed with a show. Not saying that it's a bad show, but I've come to realise that I'm generally not that into comic book themed shows or movies, at least not unless there's a character or relationship that catches my interest

Which TV shows do you intend on checking out in 2015?

Hmm well last year I listed The Shield, Homeland, and Friday Night Lights, and I've watched one of those shows since then anyway lol. The other two are still on my list, but I am finding it a struggle keeping up with everything. I still want to watch seasons 4 and 5 The Good Wife (and then I guess catching up with the current season after that!), I want to rewatch the complete Nikita boxset that I'm getting for Xmas (woot!), I've also been thinking that I might like to rewatch some of The X Files. Perhaps that might be a bit ambitious though *g* 22/23 episode seasons are hard to catch up with...

Your favorite TV show of the year?

The Good Wife <3 Other shows that I'm still watching and enjoying include The Vampire Diaries, The Big Bang Theory, Supernatural (sort of), Hannibal, Doctor Who, From Dusk Till Dawn, Pretty Little Liars

The most missed of your old fandoms?

Buffy always. And I do miss the people from Smallville fandom as well. Oh and Breaking Bad of course, we had some really interesting discussions with that show, a season 5 rewatch is another show on my to-watch list

Your favourite book of the year

 photo 17329041_zpsd8755885.jpg

It's kind of hard to talk much about this book without giving a lot away, but it's set in the 1920's with Rose as this unreliable narrator who's quite prim and proper, and you gradually get the sense that there's something just a little bit off about her. Then she gets swept up in the world of her new co-worker, Odalie, and to say too much more would be spoilery for anyone that wants to read it, but it's such an awesome psychological study with some great twists.

I skipped favourite film of the year, just because I didn't really have one :P More and more I'm finding that tv >>>> film for me, I just can't get into most films in the same way as I can when I'm following characters week after week on tv

Oh and I'm so happy, my phone is okay after all!!! o2 repairs were saying on their website that it was liquid damage and "beyond economic repair", so I figured that was my phone ruined. But I picked it up today, only to find out that it's now turning on and charging fine?? I haven't really played around with it yet to check on everything (and the people at the shop did warn me that with liquid damage it could apparently break down at any time and won't run as it did), but still it seems fully functional at the moment, so I'll take it :D

I didn't watch past the pilot of the Flash as the characters didn't click with me either. I intended to watch more in relation to Arrow, but then the Arrow season premiere made me drop it, so I dropped both shows.

It just kind of dawned on me, after I kept putting off watching the latest episodes, that I'm really not that excited about that show. In the beginning I was excited to get into it because it seemed like a fun show, and they obviously have some intriguing future developments planned, but it's just not a show where I'm crazy about any of the characters really. Smallville obviously being the exception (and a lot of the draw there for me originally was Lex's character and the Clark/Lex relationship), but I think that in general those type of lighter comic book shows just aren't something that I can get very invested in. I need a tragic friendship to get me to care maybe lol, as that's what got me invested with Smallville and with X-Men, whereas there's no one relationship that I'm really excited about with The Flash

Hi there!

I agree with you totally on Flash. It's just so... meh. As much as some may deride Smallville for making Clark's journey so slow and tortuous, Flash makes you realize just why it makes good dramatic sense for the hero to have some reluctance about putting on the suit. Especially when its such a very ugly suit.

Hey :) I do enjoy Barry's enthusiasm for his abilities and find the actor quite charismatic, but yeah it all feels soooo comic bookish that I don't really have the same investment as I did with Smallville, just because SV did start off a lot more grounded with Clark as a teenager struggling to deal with his abilities in high school, whereas The Flash is already very high tech with the secret labs, prisons for the meta humans, and time travel etc. I get why the show is so popular, objectively speaking it probably is the better show when it comes to pure comic book translations, but more and more I'm finding that I'm watching on a very surface level to see the cool special effects and plot twists, but the emotional investment just isn't there for me

I think the pitfalls of Flash and its def among my favorite shows this season amongst a big pile of failures, is that its not really for the average person. I have always been a comic book geek and it took me a long time to get into smallville simply because clark was the only character I enjoyed.

Yeah it feels like it's very much aimed at comic book fans, so that those who like the show are going to *really* like it and appreciate how well it's translating the comic book medium to television, but I am finding the characters a bit shallow and one-dimensional at the moment

Sorry to hear you're not invested in "The Flash" and while I totally get it since I have shows like that too (for example Jane the Virgin and such), I much rather prefer the ones where I can really "dive into" :)

So happy for you your phone works again - for now. But I really hope it'll stay that way :)

I'm bummed because it's a fandom that I would have liked to get into as so many on my flist are talking about it, but my investment in the characters just isn't there unfortunately

And so far my phone seems exactly the same! The SD card isn't working for some reason, but otherwise there's no problems with it at all, so I'm wondering what they meant by saying that it was 'beyond economic repair'

Ooooh, fun! I will do this too :)

You're honestly not missing out on much re: Homeland. Season One was really good, but it all fell apart mid Season 2. I didn't watch Season 3 at all and only watched S4 (which just finished this Sunday) because a couple of actors I liked were going to be in it... and again, it was another disappointment, lol. It's a shame, because I actually LOVE Claire as Carrie, I just can't handle the show itself for multiple reasons.

I also loved Claire Danes as Carrie, she was the reason I checked out the show in the first place, and she didn't disappoint <3 But yeah I've heard that the show goes downhill later on, so I decided to quit after the season 1 finale. I was never all that invested in any of the characters other than Carrie tbh (well and I guess Saul)

I just never talk about it! I couldn't seem to find much of a fandom to discuss the show with, mostly all I found were people rebloging gifs of the show on tumblr. Unless gifs is all that you can expect from fandom these days Idk

I'm glad you like the Good Wife! It was one of my favorite shows, and I think this season it is getting back to where it was! (I just wish you'd talked to me about me when it was really really into it, because you want to discuss seasons, and I actually am horrible at remembering particulars it seems)

I was a little disappointed tbh because I know that a few people on my flirt watch TGW, but there didn't seem to be many people wanting to discuss it, I guess I just got into the fandom too late....Individual episode plots would be tougher, but surely general character stuff would jog your memory and be easier to remember? :P

I'm hoping to watch season 4 soon anyway, so doubtless I will be posting about it again!
