SPN was pretty decent this week, it was nice to have a good old-fashioned MOTW episode with lots of brotherly talks. I enjoyed the opening especially with Sam and Dean trying to relax for once, only for Dean to end up champing at the bit to get back to work *g*
It did bother me a little how much Dean kept pushing how in the wrong that Sam was with Lester though, and how he "made" him sell his soul. Lester was this close to hiring a hitman or similar to take out his wife, so I can't really blame Sam too harshly for telling him how to contact a crossroads demon, he never actually forced or manipulated Lester into making that deal. It was morally shady sure, but Lester was falling all over himself to ask for his wife to be killed just as soon as the crossroads demon appeared! It just felt like Dean was deflating like whoa when he started on how dark Sam had been acting, and how even Dean killing Lester was “technically still on you” because Sam supposedly led Lester into a trap, I really don't see it as a trap when Lester knew full well that he would be giving up his soul :shrugs:
I'm not going to argue that Sam was doing the right thing either there of course, I just felt that Dean was trying too hard to regain the moral high ground because he's so used to Sammy being the morally dubious little brother that he needs to look out for. Let's not forget that this is an episode directly after demon Dean went after his brother with a hammer and Sam was doing everything possible to save him, yet the show wants to seriously suggest that Sam was being the darker of the two? I just felt like no wonder Sam was frustrated and asking what Dean wants from him, it seems like he get criticized when he attempts to move on with his life in a sane and healthy way (yeah I haven't watched seasons 8 or 9 yet, but I've seen many gifs on tumblr :P ), but when he does go all-out to save Dean then that's no good either?
Still we did get a nice pay-off in their final scene with Dean acknowledging how bad he feels about everything that he did when he was a demon, something that I felt that he was definitely avoiding earlier when he kept trying to shift the conversation onto Sam being just as bad. Loved him trying to thank Sam in the end, and Sam saying that he never has too :)
And hee, next weeks episode certainly seems different!
I enjoyed The Flash a lot more this week too. I've no idea who she is from Arrow oops, but Felicity seemed like a great character, she and Barry were so cute together at the quiz night, and then in the train scene with their goodbye kiss :) I still can't get into Barry and Iris because I feel like there's absolutely nothing to build on there, other than Barry having a crush. There wasn't the slightest hint of sexual tension from Iris when she saw Barry and Felicity clicking together, just Iris genuinely encouraging Barry to date her. If Iris is meant to be his main canon love interest them I'm confused at how the writers are going about portraying them at the moment, for me it's more got the feel of Barry needing to outgrow his longstanding crush and open his eyes to other women in his life like Felicity
I really liked all of the lab scenes in this episode, especially the beginning with Barry multitasking heh, and them really coming through as a team in the end
And okay Joe's attitude towards Iris is bugging me less lol after his explanation on it being an issue for him because Eddie is his partner, which I can appreciate, and the awkward scene of them in the car and only finding love songs on the radio was actually pretty funny *g*
And I'll be honest and admit that the main villain didn't blow me away as much as I'd been expecting from everyone talking about how much they loved the actor (I've never seen Prison Break, I only vaguely remember him from the Go Fish episode of Buffy XD), but I did enjoy his smirk in his final scene when Cisco named him, and the set-up was there for an intriguing future storyline in his final scene

Date: 2014-10-31 11:36 am (UTC)I think each time Dean brought up how Sam might be as bad as him is after Sam tries to get Dean to talk about his time as a demon and how he is holding up now. It seems to me that Dean is just avoiding talking about his own problems. But Dean was also right that Sam has done a tad more than what we know he did to Lester. It will be interesting to see what.

I dunno, I thought that Sam turning ~dark~ was way overstated really if all he did was get rough with some demons, and take advantage of Lester's greed

Date: 2014-10-31 11:12 pm (UTC)I agree. I heard that Jared told people at the con that Sam went pretty dark so I was looking forward to seeing just how much but they have to have something else up their sleeves if they are going to go with that.

Date: 2014-10-31 09:36 pm (UTC)I highly doubt they plan on "going there" anytime soon to be honest... We're in season 3 with "Arrow" and all the "olicity" fans (Oliver and Felicity are a "thing" in Arrow) ever got was ONE date and ONE kiss, and if they put them together, it won't be in Season 1 or anything. It will be a VERY slow burn.
I mean, with for example The Vampire Diaries they built up the whole Stefan/Caroline thing FOREVER and neither of them even thought THAT much about it until their friends mentioned it, so, I think that's really "normal" for tv-shows ;)
Also, BONES: Brennan and Booth were just friends for a VERY long time, then you could see that Booth started feeling more, but when Brennan kind of "denied" him he went for another woman and it took like 7 seasons to put them together.
Long story short: In "such" shows it's usually taking a lot of time =)

Date: 2014-10-31 09:46 pm (UTC)I'm not sure they will EVER go down the Oliver/Laurel route since basically NO one I know wants this and fans are REALLY opposed to it while Felicity/Ollie is a HUGE thing.
I think that's why they ARE in fact bringin in a new love interest for Barry soon (Malese Jow will play her), do if it happens similiar to "Arrow", who knows what might happen...
Sure, the writers DO orientate themselves with the comics, but if it doesn't really work for whatever reason, they are entitled to change up some things, so... ;-)

Date: 2014-10-31 09:51 pm (UTC)I keep reading about that in The Flash thread *g* I mean I wouldn't have been opposed to Barry and Iris, but I just feel like they haven't really even been given the opportunity to generate any heat on-screen because of the way that they're being written with Iris seeing Barry as her brother...
And I can't wait to see Malese join The Flash, I'm such a big fan of her from The Vampire Diaries!

Date: 2014-11-02 10:05 pm (UTC)Yeah, I don't get Joe's attitude. Ugh. I like him, but wtf, she's his daughter not his property.

Date: 2014-11-02 10:26 pm (UTC)And Joe's attitude towards Iris did bug me less this week, but I really don't get this whole thing of father's treating their grown daughters like their "little girls" who aren't allowed to date. At least we got an explanation of it being weird for him because of Eddie being his partner, but Iris does still seem to tip-toe around his approval a lot, and then there's still the fact that he wants Iris to be protected from knowing of Barry's speed (umm why exactly?)

Date: 2014-11-03 08:33 pm (UTC)Yeah. I get protectiveness, I really do, but it gives off the vibe of him not trusting her to make her own decisions, and ugh, no. :/
