Okay this new writer is awesome, that's two fabulous episodes in a row now, can we keep him, please? <3
I loved that the Doctor and Clara switched roles this episode! The Doctor getting to see himself through Clara's eyes and being disturbed at how easily she switched into pragmatic saving the world mode, being bothered that she was merely triumphant at the end and forgot all about the innocent people that she couldn't save, so for once the Doctor has to be the one to bring them up. I thought it was interesting that he refused to praise her for being an exceptional Doctor, "Goodness had nothing to do with it", which would fit with Peter Capaldi's Doctor worrying about whether he is a good man and looking to Clara to be his moral compass, and so obviously being disquieted to now recognise that instead he's been influencing Clara into acting more like him. (It seems like they're following a similar theme to series 2 of DW with Jackie worrying about Rose turning into the Doctor and becoming too similar to him, only this time it's the Doctor himself worrying about it)
But still how awesome was Doctor Oswin in general, I loved seeing her taking charge and kicking ass!
And Rigsy made for a fabulous companion, I'd love if he were to ever return
All of the visuals effects were very cool, I loved the mileage they got out of the shrinking Tardis with the Doctor's face peering out or his hand coming through heh, mostly I just want to do the tumblr thing and keep on posting gifs from this episode XD
Aww I'm sad that making icons seems to have fallen out of favour since fandom fled for tumblr (at least I haven't seen many icon posts since DW came back), how cool an icon would that make!
And I'm not so into the Missy hints any more tbh, I loved her first appearance when I was hoping that she was the Master, but since then her appearances have been so brief that I'm just hoping they start doing something with that plot thread now and move past the set-up stage already. It seems like she's supposed to have some kind of relationship to Clara?
And I'm still not sure what to make of Clara feeling the need to lie to Danny when there seems to be no point to it at all but, judging by next weeks preview involving Danny travelling with the Doctor, I guessing that means that it's all coming to a head soon?

The scene with the hand was so funny. Looked like a crab or something like that XD I had to laugh so loud when that happened :D
As for Missy: Since she called the Doctor her boyfriend in 8x01 she seems to have some kind of relationship to both - Clara AND the doctor. People seem to think she's River, but I doubt that becaues River called the Doctor always her husband, didn't she? This is confusing. And she can't be his daughter either, because then calling him her boyfriend would be quite disturbing... I really hope, we'll find out at least by the end of the Season.
I'm glad btw. that the Doctor wasn't really happy with Clara lying to Danny either ;)

It should be interesting to see how Danny and the Doctor are around one another next episode, hopefully they will be on better terms as they both feel the same way about Clara feeling the need to lie. (And I'm not a fan of Clara lying, but the phone call with her trying to cover up while she was on that swinging chair was pretty hilarious lol)

Date: 2014-10-20 09:33 pm (UTC)The odd thing is that I don't think we are supposed to view Danny as controlling (although franky I felt that he was leaning that way in Listen and The Caretaker), but lately they have been writing him as seeming pretty chill about Clara not really wanting to give up her travels with the Doctor, so it's baffling to me what Clara's motives are for lying to him. He has never said that he wants her to stop, so why is she treating her travels with the Doctor as a naughty secret exactly?
And yeah I was really intrigued by Missy in her first appearance, but since then I felt like we haven't had enough to go on. I'm hoping they will being all that in as a major plot point soon, enough with the little teases!

Date: 2014-10-20 09:52 pm (UTC)I've seen suggestions that it's more about Clara lying to herself when she's feeling some unease over it being a good idea to continue her travels with the Doctor, and so she's using Danny's supposed encouragement of it as a handy excuse, rather than the writers intending for her to come across as afraid to tell Danny that she just likes travelling with the Doctor period
That interpretation makes more sense with what I presume that the writers are going with, but I'm still sort of baffled as to why she needs to bring Danny into it at all and lie to him about what she's actually doing
