I haven't had a proper phone in years (just a really old phone my Mum passed on to me for making calls lol) and I always vaguely thought about buying the iphone at some point. But then today I was browsing and I really really want http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B005SYZ4SQ/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&m=AKBGN3C3XNN03 :D

I'm just a bit lost as to how it all works. I feel so stupid for not knowing this stuff, but if I buy the unlocked phone from amazon.co.uk then how does that work? Would it then run on phone cards? Or would it be better to buy a phone under contract in the long run? I'm not sure about that because I really won't use it for calls that often, so I fear it would became a case of paying for a lot of data that I won't then use, so I guess I'm mostly wondering what would be the best deal to get for someone who won't use it all that much as an actual phone...

In fact does anyone one my flist have much experience with Samsung Galaxy, and would you recommend their phones? :)

I can't really help you with your cell phone questions, because I usually get mine through the business. I don't do prepaid or phone cards, etc.

But it looks like a nice phone. It's similar to some I've seen my friends with. Hope you find out some answers and get it if it's suitable for you!

Thanks! It does look right for me I think because at the moment I get frustrated with the size of my iPod. I know people say that the iPod and the iPhone are the perfect size, but I find it a bit fiddly so I end up nearly always turning to my iPad instead. And of course it's not always suitable to be whipping out a tablet in public! I always assumed I would eventually replace my iPod with an iPhone, but recently I've been looking around and thinking I would rather get something with a bigger screen as I find myself hardly using the iPod for things like web browsing because it is just a little bit too small IMO.. And honestly I've been drooling at the clips of the Samsung galaxy note on YouTube!

I'm just a bit of a cautious buyer I guess and all the contract phones I'm looking at seem to be offering something around 100 minutes of free calls every month, and truthfully there's no way I will use even half that, so I'm trying to figure out what would be the best value for money for me

I know exactly what you mean. I have an Android Thunderbolt and when I bought it, the salesperson was worried I wouldn't like it because it is so big. He said most women want something small. Not me! LOL

Anyway, I'm with Verizon and I never come close to using my minutes either but I have unlimited text and internet for $20 so its worth it. I got the smallest talk package they had.

I would use it for the Internet, it's really the phone calls minutes that seem so huge to me. I'm surprised I haven't been able to find something smaller, but all of the plans seem to offer about 100 minutes per month as a minimum and that's what puts me off as I don't want to spend money every month on something I'm not going to use, but idk

My pal who's out here had a cracked phone in Ireland and said Meteor had a great monthly flat-fee no contract. The phone cards only run on cheapie phones you buy for that. She said neighborhood shady cell phone shops plug in your phone and unlock it.

Regarding, the Galaxy, it's one of the top-rated phones, so that ought to be great. My HTC uses Android, and the fabulous feature is that all Google data is instantly updated via the Cloud. No more backing up!

I've got a Samsung Galaxy S, that I'm quite pleased with. I've got a subscription with a provider (a contract), so I wouldn't know about phone cards and top-ups, but as far as ease of use goes, I can heartily recommend it.

I would like to get it on a contract, I just wish there was some way I could only get one to more or less cover what I use. I just know I will end up annoyed every month lol if I have a ton of unused data.

I'll use it more for Internet and as a mini computer, but all of these data plans for 100 minutes and more of phone calls per month just makes me think if I go with them it will be a waste of money as I won't use them

I'm with Vodafone. I found the sales assistant in their shop here in town most knowledgeable and helpful in selecting my phone and the proper package to go with it given my needs...perhaps you can do the same, i.e. shop around? You have a pretty good idea of what it is you're looking for; it shouldn't be hard to find a provider/package that suits you.

I have the Samsung Galaxy S2, which I find absolutely charming and just as good as an iPhone, if not better. It's just the right size for me (I know a friend who has Note, and it's a smidge too big for my liking), and it has a fantastic camera, and everything's really user friendly. I give it two thumbs up! :)

Hee yes I have been deliberating over whether it's the most practical phone as it doesn't seem like it will fit in a pocket so easily, but it will fit in my handbag nicely, and it just looks so gorgeous that I can't resist it *g*

I and two of my most dearest colleagues at the office all have samsungs, though from different samsung generations :D
but tech-wise, we all love our samsung darlings :D
the one you pointed to amazon, I think thats the one my colleague bought last month... she loves it.
she bought it contract free though, as she said, she doesnt know how much she would use it for calls and for internet and such, and rather wanted to test first.
and anyway, different countries, different mobile providers, so there aint much help from my side :(

I went to town today and a lot of places didn't even have the phone, and the one that did was quoting £41 a month. So eh I've decided to just order an unlocked phone on the internet and do pay as you go

I'm soo excited to get it though, it looks AWESOME :bounces:
