My SPN rewatch is now up to Something Wicked

Scarecrow I really liked this one. Such a creepy main premise with the towns people all conspiring together to sacrifice a couple to their Pagan God. That scarecrow was so creepy, especially in the opening teaser! And it was fun seeing Dean try and warn people of the dangers while totally lacking in people skills heh.

I liked how they followed up on the awkward place that Asylum ended things on, with Sam getting frustrated at Dean being all "yes sir" on the phone (a very telling character moment for Dean aww), and then seeing them fight and split up for a bit, before the episode ends on making clear how much they rely on one another. And hee at Dean's pride at Sam stealing a car! Scarecrow and Asyum are definitely when the show starts getting really good for me when they start getting into the family dynamic more

Kind of surprising that the Cigarette Smoking man from the X-Files only got the one scene though, I'd have thought they would make his appearance a bigger deal as he's pretty well-known to genre fans

Faith. Honestly this isn't one of my favourite episodes, even though I know it's really popular with the writers and with fandom. The beginning of the episode makes me very happy with Sam being so concerned for Dean dying, and Dean looking all pale and fragile in his hoodie as Sam tries to coodle him. I kind of wish they had milked sick Dean a little bit more tbqh, maybe devoting the first half of the episode to that *g*

Layla was okay, but all we really saw of her was her and her mother turning up hoping to get cured, so I didn't quite buy the connection they were trying to sell with Dean when it felt like we barely knew anything about her beyond her having faith in getting a cure? It was sad though when you could tell Dean was torn between wanting her to get healed first, but knowing someone else would have to die for that, so calling fire in the end to prevent it. That was effectively done, and I liked the ending with Dean saying that he will pray for her. But overall the episode just didnt grab me, and Layla didn't feel developed enough as a character for all the emphasis they wanted to give her. It was sad that she was dying, but there wasn't really all that much to work with when we hardly know anything about her. I was more invested when Dean was the one that was dying

Route 666 is an opinion that may well cause people to doubt my sanity, but...I didn't entirely hate this episode. It was slightly better than I remembered, mostly because it had some great brotherly banter. Sam felt like such a little brother in this teasing Dean over Cassie, and then seeing his brother in a new light when he realised that Dean really did love her. And Dean's "I'm gonna kill him" when Sam tells him after that his plan consisted more of hoping for the best when he got the truck driving at Dean by the old church.

Of course though the main killer truck plot is a mess, and also I wasn't really sold on Dean and Cassie chemistry-wise. It just felt awkward when they were doing the whole cliche of exchanging angry words before suddenly feeling compelled to kiss. The sex scene was better though. Jensen has a very nice back

5/10

Nightmares Unsurprisingly I loved this episode for getting more into the myth-arc and Sam's visions, it's a shame that they never did much more with Sam developing telekinesis as that bit was pretty intriguing. And protective Dean in this episode is so squeeworthy when he's all concerned about Sam's painful visions, and then the end with "As long as I'm around nothing bad' going to happen to you". Awwww. Not to mention them dressing as priests! Very nice indeed

The Benders Umm will I sound creepy if this is the first episode I rate as 9/10? :P I just thought it was awesome and really felt like a mini horror movie, I was so creeped out when Dean was sneaking around the episode with all of the "trophies" from their victims, awesome set design. And the creepy little girl :shudders: It was a great twist that the kid at the beginning who heard a growl really WAS letting his overactive imagination get the better of him after watching a horror film, and the kidnappers were human after all

And it's always kind of cool when they have deal with the law, Kathleen was such a kickass character who had a very nice rapport with Dean. It was great that she wasn't buying his bullshit, but it was also very touching when they were bonding over the importance of family with Dean opening up to her about feeling responsible for Sam since he pulled him out of the fire, and then at the end when she's telling Dean that knowing what happened to her brother doesn't make it any easier like she thought it would :sniffs:

And I was swooning over Dean's "If you hurt my brother I will kill you all". It was so hot the way Jensen played that oh my

9/10

Hell House LOVED this episode. The boys playing pranks on one another were too cute, and even with how funny it was it still got the right balance of keeping the MotW scary. In fact it was the first episode that really terrified me in a while (when the ghost suddenly appears behind the girl in the basement :clutches heart:). I confess that the ghostbuster characters ended up annoying me in their season 3 episode, but I thought they worked perfectly here and their scenes with Sam and Dean were hilarious

And yum at wet Sam in that towel

9/10

Something Wicked Quite honestly this episode disappointed me with how clunky the writing was, it felt like it was really beating the audience over the head with Dean and Michael both feeling responsible for protecting their little brothers. I usually love the brotherly stuff, but it felt so heavy-handed here. Even finding out about their past and realising why Dean follows his dad's orders without question, they then have to freaking use Sam to TELL the audience that, as if we didn't get it already?? Although it was nice to get that scene of Sam explicitly telling Dean that he understands him better now I suppose, but with all of the other obvious writing of the episode it just felt like way too much Idk. Even the flashbacks weren't all that I hoped as both of the kid actors were quite wooden. I did like ending of the episode though with Dean also wishing that Sammy could have kept his innocence aww

And sidenote but grr at John in this episode. Why would he blame DEAN for leaving Sammy alone? Dean did make an attempt with the shotgun, but he was clearly out of his comfort-zone so whether he was in the hotel or not wouldn't have made any difference in the monster getting inside and Dean not being able to cope with it. John was the one who left Sammy alone!!!

7/10 I know I bitched about this episode a lot lol, but I do still like the idea of finding out more about their past so I can't hate it or anything, I just wish it had been executed better

And I've completely lost track of time lately! Are The Vampire Diaries, Ringer, Nikita, and Supernatural all starting up this week?

Awesome, I'll have to see if I can find a copy of Ringer tomorrow then :D

I had completely lost track that my shows were back this week, for some reason I got it into my head that they weren't back until the end of the month

I really like Route 666. Yeah, the chemistry with Cassie is a bit awkward, but there's so many other great moments. I've never liked Nightmare though, but not because I didn't think it was a good ep with great performances from the guest cast, there's just something about it I'm not keen on and I think it might be that guest cast.

My only complaint about Nightmare was that I thought it dragged a bit in places, particularly when Sam was talking with Max about his childhood. But Dean comforting Sammy over his visions, and Sam and Drean dressed up as Priests, kept me happy to overlook that *g* ETA Oh and regarding the guest cast I admit I wasn't that impressed with the acting of Max's stepmother

And hee yes, I felt a bit awkward saying it because Route666 is so much mocked by fandom (and even by the show itself), but it was actually better than I remembered, even if the main concept is kind of an odd one. It had a ton of great brotherly interaction
