So I'm guessing that hardly anyone will have much familiarity with this show, but I've just started watching Wentworth Prison, it's an Australian prison drama that's designed as a sort of prequel to Prisoner Cell Block H. It's a modern retelling, obviously a lot of small and not so small things have been changed, but the gist of the characters is still the same. I'm finding it very cool to watch Bea Smith's first days in prison, knowing that she will become the 'top dog' eventually. I'm also enjoying the new interpreations of Franky, Doreen, Vera, and Erica Davidson. The biggest adjustment for me was probably Lizzie lol, they just seemed to go a really different direction with her character imo, whereas the others are more or less recognisable with the original versions, even if obviously Bea and Vera will have a bit of a journey before ending up as their future selves.

And hmm, from what I've seen, the Franky and Erica ship was VERY popular, so I'm puzzled to read that Erica won't be returning in season 2? It doesn't seem like anyone is that sure if it was a writer or actor decision, but it seems very strange to drop that storyline when it was clearly an audience draw? The ship reminded me a bit of Bad Girls actually (a UK prison drama) and the Helen and Nikki ship. I could never get into that paring though, I liked Helen all right, but I found Nikki and her jealous flare-ups intensely irritating if I'm honest! I was definitely more of a fan of Wentworth's officer and prisoner flirtation, and it seems odd to end things right after they kissed for the first time in the finale

So far I've only been able to watch the first season on Amazon Prime, I'm hoping that they will be getting season 2 soon! Favourite characters are most definitely Bea, Franky, and Vera, and I also have a soft spot for Boomer. The most boring characters to me are probably Fletch and Will lol, I don't mind spending time on Vera's personal life (or lack thereof), because she's a pretty iconic character and it's interesting finding out how she will later became so cold and bitter, but I don't get why we're supposed to care about Will's drug use or Fletch's PTSD. Those scenes outside of the prison can be so long and draggy. Really I don't think it's unreasonable to say that, if I'm watching a show about prison life, then that's what I want to watch....
