Aww YEAH.

Well I wasn't that keen on either of them lol. They don't especially bother me, just I found them both quite tedious on Bts. I actually liked Riley more in season 5, even when he was being a jerk to Buffy. Plus he had better hair then *g*

The only character I totally loathe still is Kennedy

I loved them in Tabula Rasa and Grave. Or the play fight in Bargaining. Giles got Anya more than Xander ever did I think.

I was gonna take this survey, but I have a feeling you wouldn't like the rest of my answers ;-)

I am interested, why exactly do you dislike Kennedy so much?

Because she was obnoxious, and a bully. I hate the scene in Get It Done when she's ordering all the potentials around, and gloating to Buffy about, "did you see I just called that girl a maggot".

She was often arrogant and rude, her attitude about being a better fighter than Spike, a vampire of over 100 years. I also dislike how she acted around Buffy, always inviting herself to meetings because she was Willow's girlfriend, and then screaming that Buffy is clearly wrong, and why does Willow always take Buffy's side.

She was nothing more than a bolshy and argumentative potential who thought a little too highly of herself, and she shouldn't have been allowed in those meetings in the first place, when the other potentials weren't.

mh. Series 7 is not my favourite and I don't remember every one of those moments, but I can see your point. ON the other hand, I have a dislike - or rather, a complete lack of empathy - for little miss perfect Tara.

Incidentally, I love your use of the adjective "bolshy". I thought it had gone out of use.

I used to like Tara a lot more at the time, she was the character I related too the most (it's since become Buffy). But looking back now, she really didn't have much of a personality. It seems her main purpose was to agree with Willow. I liked her more in season 6, during the period when she and Willow had broken up, and she was bonding with Buffy in Dead Things. Oh and in Older And Far Away she was pretty cool. Otherwise it was mostly all snuggling with Willow, and adoring baby talk

It's a shame because I think they did a good job with making Anya more than just an arm decoration for Xander, but without Willow, Tara's character really had no point at all. Just as Seth Green partly left because Oz's scenes mostly consisted of saying, "As Willow goes, so goes my nation".

Looks like we had a few of those in common! :-)

Excellent analysis of Kennedy. I never understood the pairing with Willow, who had previously chosen kind, warm hearted people. Her relationship with Kennedy made me think less of her.

Another thing that bothered me surrounding the character of Kennedy was reading that AH told the actress who played Kennedy (can't remember her name) not to worry about the generally negative reaction to the character. We'd get over it and accept her, just like we got over Oz and accepted Tara. I remember thinking 'Um, no. I don't like Kennedy because she's a pushy, self-important little bitch. And with only a few episodes to go, I don't see that changing.'

It didn't.

I think the problem was they decided to go in the opposite direction, and choose Kennedy as very loud and different from Tara. The thing was they had already failed at that, with the introduction of Riley, who was deliberately written as very straight and boring "boy next door type" to contrast with Angel's whole past and spolit personality deal.

They were obviously considering how to mix it up for the audience, but it was inconsistent with who the character would choose. Willow was not excited at the whole, "don't hog the covers" act from Kennedy. I mean Kennedy invites herself to share a bedroom with Willow, before there was any sign that Willow might be interested back. And Tara had just recently died, why should Willow have to put up with such a person and the unsubtle come-ons.

I loved Tara for the gentleness she displayed in a violent world, and thought she had a ton of potential. I wish the character had been developed more fully.

I used to really like Tara because I could relate to her being so shy, but now looking back, IMO they really didn't do a lot with her. I think the relationship with Willow held her back quite a bit if anything, and it seemed they only really began developing her in season 6. And of course that was most likely just so viewers would mourn her death more.

I would have liked to have seen more of a friendship with Buffy developing, it was there so briefly. More Tara/Dawn scenes would also have been good. They were adorable in Smashed

My issue with Kennedy was that they *didn't* really go in the other direction. Beneath the brash and pushy exterior, she was still head of the Go Willow! squad which really isn't something Willow needed, IMO. She needed someone to tell her what for instead of playing the backpatter all the time.

Also? Kite string. No.

Joss talks about deliberately going for Kennedy as the opposite of Tara, and I think she very much was in terms of arrogant nasty personality, but you're right that it seems all of Willow's lovers must worship her. It's like the writers find it impossible to imagine that she might actually have to be the one chasing someone. Oz and Tara were both all over her from the first, "No you are special. Here, take this priceless articifact of my family's"

Well she never got anywhere with Xander mind you, but that was the only exception from what I remember.

Yeah, that's the brunt of it. I seriously think Joss had some objectivity issues when it came to Willow.

Hee, when I was responding to you, I was thinking Mary Sue. But I'm not sure that's quite accurate, I think it's partly that, and a lot of Aly being Joss's pet. And the writers finding it hard to be objective about anyone not falling for her cuteness. She even manages to wriggle out of singing in the musical, when all the other terrified actors have to just suck it up and deal. (Or, in the case of Michelle, offer to dance instead). Ally didn't really have to do any extra work for that episode, yet Joss still gushes in the commentary about how she had the harder role in having to respond to Amber's singing.

But anyway *g*

The MOTW aspect worked real well. One of the problems with seasons 5 and 7 is that they were oppressively dominated by one story, didn't give the show a chance to breathe.

Xander/Anya is much worse than B/A, torture to watch. Anybody liking Willow doesn't score well with me either.

Buffy/Faith were hot in season 3! I didn't think they had any chemistry in season 7 though, something was missing there. But for a while... I should have put them with Giles/Anya as a favourite unconventional pairing *g*
