I haven't seen the latest seasons, but when I watched season 1 was the last time I liked pretty much all (and I include Lana in this!) of the people on the show.

Season One
Clark was a young colt with new powers and abilities, and it freaked him out....Chloe was the snarky girl with a crush on him, and willing to help him out ALWAYS...Pete was Clark's brother from another mother, always back Clark up..Lana was interesting, friendly, unsure of herself...and Lex, wanting to be friends with Clark without ulterior motive...maybe. Season One was the coolest season by far, dramatic, funny, scary, and showed that the show had TONS of potential, most of which has yet to materialize.

I love the characters in season 1, but the FOTW plotlines meant I couldn't choose it as overall favourite :/

ah so hard, it was between 1,3 and 5..but I went with 5 because of the awesomeness of the chlark (s1 was also awesome..but ended badly for chlark while s5 ended perfectly for chlark)

Season 5 was the perfect season for me what with the Clex finally moving on to the hot destiny of enemies (after season 4 stalling and avoidance). And then the Chlark and Lexana! :D

Season 5 and Season 3 are tied for me...I think the former is the strongest creatively, love the S5 Clex, and subtantive strides in Clark's development. S3 was also very good, though towards the end it got weaker I think and took the focus off of Clex.

I think season 5 is consistently the stronger season, and is also better to all of the regular characters.

But I just adore season 3 for the Luther arc. Shattered, Memoria, and Asylum are just terrific, and no episode has got me as invested as the heights that year reached.

I think the start of season 3 was really strong as well. I love Exile, Phoenix, Extinction, Slumber (yes really!), Perry, Relic. Then skip Magentic as utter shit :P and two terrific Lex episodes. And the continuity and everything else *happy sigh*

Plus Chloe's story was much stronger that year (two Chloe-centric episodes as well!), Lionel was at his magnificant best.

The downside was Adam and the Clana loft endings... But aside from that, seasons 3 and 5 just felt epic. Season 2 got too bogged down by the love triangle, whereas the Clana felt more like an afterthought in season 3.

Season 4 was a reaction against the darker Luther storylines, and a return to high school and light comedy. Seasons 3 and 5 are what the show should be about

I also say a tie between 3 and 5
3 was well rounded with not just Chloe getting out of her hole/deal with Lionel but her interaction with Lex, Lana was decent and she didn't actually have an official boyfriend, Clark grew a smidge, and it has the best cliffhanger. I mean shaved head montage with Lex drinking, Chloe's safe house blowinf up, Jonathan strangled and Clark naked... Who can ask for more?
5 had the great build up of the Chlark, the downfall/death of Clana, sinister Mionel loomed, and quasi-realistic Lexana.

Season 3 was actually my least favourite year for Lana *g* I think they did a good job integrating Chloe into the more adult season, giving her storylines with the Luther's. But Lana and Pete didn't fare so well IMO

Season 5 was more great all round for everyone I felt. Even the Clana was good in the first few episodes for me (when she sees him after the dead and he swings her up/the time when he's human and they hold hands lots). Whereas season 3 had the Lana episode Magentic doing her no favours, and dressing her in so much pink she become a self-parody (OMG that scene in Resurrection!) And why did she start carrying around straw baskets like Little Miss Riding Hood *cries with laughter*

See I saw season 3 as Lana turning into who she is in the comics. The one with the feelings towards Clark and her being the one in the cold. Plus Adam wasn't a boyfriend she was actually single. O_O

Season 3 for me! My fave SV ep is Memoria and I also love Shattered and Asylum.

Things generally got darker and more interesting in season 3 and it's the season that had the most episodes that made me go 'ooh, wow'. I loved the end of Talisman when Lex says 'Did it ever occur to you that maybe the hero of the story is Sageeth?' (or however you spell that!). I wish they'd stuck to that idea more, though there are still traces of it now and again. I also wish season 4 had developed on the darkness, rather than suddenly going all light again. I've been enjoying season 5 though.

it's the season that had the most episodes that made me go 'ooh, wow'.

That's exactly why I love season 3. I think season 5 is consistently better, but season 3 had huge highs and lows, and the highs are just incredible. It nearly killed me waiting for Memoria and finding out about Julian (after the hint in Shattered). Not to mention waiting for Asylum, or watching the hug in Phoenix (over and over again!)

I can f-f the Clana hamster wheel *g*

I'm stuck between 2 and 3, because they had the most "best" episodes. Between Red, Ryan, Prodigal, Lineage, Rosetta, Exile and Phoenix, Shattered and Asylum, Memoria, and some others I can't think of right now. I also just realized I picked all the Clexiest episodes as well. So we can agree that those two seasons are the Clexiest of all, right? I mean, I like S1, but S2 is when jealous/possessive Clark comes out, it's awesome. But as I said, writting and acting wise, those are the best episodes IMO. And even thought the majority of my flist didn't like S4, there are some really good eps in there (Transferrence, Onyx, Bound, too name a few, and eps like Devoted and Spell made me laugh out loud from Dorky/Awkward Clark, because Tom does the comedy thing really well). Okay, this response was long enought

I thought late season 1/early season 2 is when Clark and Lex where closest to acting on their feelings. If it wasn't a fictional tv show on the WB that is *g* Vortex, Heat, Red, Ryan, Lineage were all building up to something all right.

But I didn't like season 2's focus on Clana, and what they did with Chloe's character. It definitely had some good episodes though. Don't forget Insurgence!

Oh, yeah. See, I knew I was forgetting some, but I was in the parking lot typing this stuff, LOL. I can only get internet on the laptop in the parking lot. WTF?!

Anyway, you're right about the acting on the Clex. If Clark were a real guy, he would've had Lana and Lex at the same time...I'm just saying...

And anyway, this may be me reading too much fic, but I go back and view the Clana as Clark trying to be normal. He's already an alien, he couldn't handle being a gay alien as well (or bisexual, whatever). And can't NOBODY tell me something didn't happen with Clark and LEx during those unshown hours in Prodigal and Rosetta. Please, sell it to someone else.

It's been a long time since I watched any of season 1, but I remember there were some great standalones like "Hourglass", "Jitters", and "Zero". Season 2 is kind of a blur to me. Season 3 had only a couple of crappy episodes, the rest were excellent. I think "Shattered" and "Memoria" are two of the best episodes ever.

Season 4 started out kinda fun with Clark/Lois/Chloe and a little bit of a Lex/Lana/Jason triangle, but then the stupid thing with the stones became beyond lame and ridiculous. However, this season did seem to have the least amount of Clana (until the end).

Season 5 is the season where everything has really begun to take shape, with Clark and Lex moving into position as enemies, and Clark becoming more mature, and the Lexana, and the finale killed me (in a good way). So yeah, I love season 5 the most. :)

I liked season 4 at the start, because at least SV was doing comedy and loosening up a little. But cutting Lex's screen time, and what was done to Lionel= disgrace
