There is definitely a sense that Alicia and Diane’s story is unfinished. And I do find it telling that Julianna seems to take it as a personal insult that CBS refused to meet her ask, she can argue that she’s not just any guest star and she deserves a bump in pay accordingly sure, but to say that ‘I’m not a guest star’ is just not accurate when you’re talking about making an appearance on someone else’s show.
Actually the more I think about it, the more I find it interesting that she seems so convinced that she’s in the right that she’s happy to tell the public that she turned down the role because she wasn’t paid her usual fee (and even makes a point of saying that she asked for no more than that), even when there is a good argument to be made that she shouldn’t necessarily expect to make TGW money on another smaller show. She brings up equal pay, but I’m not sure how that can apply unless there’s a direct example that you can point to of you being unfairly compensated in comparison to someone else, and all she is really doing is speculating that, “If Jon Hamm came back for a Mad Men spinoff or Kiefer Sutherland wanted to do a 24 spinoff, they would be paid.” I mean yes they would likely command their usual fee if they wanted to come back and headline a spin-off that would be centred around them, but that’s really not the same thing as making a guest appearance as your character on an already established show in its third season
