I just watched the last episode and have to say, while it wasn't actually offensive like the previous one, I agree with you that it tried to cram far too much into one episode, with the consequence that the whole thing came across (to me anyway) as totally farcical. I didn't have time to suspect my disbelief because there was just too much conspiracy stuff/daft science to swallow in just one episode.
I think Chris Carter just shouldn't write for this show any more. I know it's his baby, but I've ended up very underwhelmed by the whole thing.
I can't remember the titles of all the episodes, but I'd rank ep 3 as the best, followed by 4, then 2, then 1. Ep 6 comes next, but only because anything looks better after ep 5. :(
