From the references made I got the feeling that there had been LOT of second chances and attempts to get Jesse into rehab, if anything it mostly seemed like they were trying to stand firm now because they had been told in meetings to practise tough love and not keep giving in to Jesse's claims that he's clean this time. I found his parents very sympathetic in this episode, and appreciated the writers not going down the obvious road of giving Jesse some tragic family backstory to explain why he is the way he is. I was actually disappointed later on when they portrayed his parents as so unfeeling and just being in it for the cash from the aunts house, the portrayal of them seemed a lot more balanced in their first appearance when they were touched at Jesse setting the table and decided to let him stay after all
