Idea taken from [livejournal.com profile] linzeems My top 5 Smallville moments.

1. The ending of Hug. At the time I was sad, but now looking back it seems even more tragic to me. The way they were both so innocent and happy, how neither could even imagine not liking and caring for one another. Just something about the way it plays when Lex says, "our friendship will be the stuff of legend" and Clark's big happy smile. Clark admired and cared about Lex sooo much. It's just the perfect example of what close friends they were in season 1, and even remembering it gets me feeling nostalgic.

2. Asylum hug. The bit in the asylum when Clark just decides fuck it and goes to release Lex, and the two of them exchange that look *sighs* And then at the end you can tell Clark is just stunned at Lex's childlike confusion, and he was totally wanting to protect Lex. (There was nothing selfish about Clark's motives in that episode IMO, no matter how they've rewritten his character since) The way Lex says he still has Clark's friendship, and the hug, and the look on Clark's face ):

I'm not an especially violent person, but I so wanted to take a hammer to Jonathon Kent in the following scene when he's all yay Lex forgot the secret, because he just so did not get it. I know in Memoria those clueless writers assassinated Clark's character and portrayed him as a dim-witted coward, making his stupid deal with the person that tortured Lex in the first place, but in Asylum they got it right. It was played as being such a relief for him to finally stop lying to Lex, and have Lex accept everything about him. Lex forgetting it all was just devastating to him, and Clark knowing he could not unburden himself because Lex was in such an unstable condition. It wasn't Clark thinking about himself, it was Clark wanting to protect his friend, and it was such a beautiful moment. MR and TW were amazing in that scene. That was supposed to be the friendship of legend that we were getting.

3. The Hourglass vision of Lex's future. Just the first time you watch it and see Lex's touch destroying everything around him, his smile, and the rain of blood.

4. Shattered. I loved all of it, so I don't know that I can pick just one moment. I love love love Clark supporting Lex, and the two walking off side by side. But I also loved Lex's confrontation with Lionel, where Lex had just completely lost it, and you see a new side to Lex and Lionel's relationship. Then there's the mention of Julian to drive you crazy wondering. And the ending with Lex in the straight jacket and Hurt playing. It was all fantastic.

5. Little Clark touching Little Lex's face in Lineage, and Lex falling asleep comforted. So adorable! Tied with the reunion hug from Phoenix!
