Guh, I hate that. Or even more annoying "the post will be locked in 24 hours". Excuse you, why don't you put a countdown as well?! I still think the main reason behind that is to get more members in their communities. Bandwidth is usually used as an excuse, because "people hotlinked and now I *have* to do this!!11!", but most of the people who say that don't even seem to understand how so-called hotlinking works, and that they're the ones hotlinking when they crosspost all over (especially if they have a huuuge icon post + gazillion animations). *sigh* Anyways, yes, it's a big pet peeve of mine. :) That is why I added "no linking to locked posts", or at least leave them open for a week, as a rule in every com I maintain. It's nice to delete offenders if they don't unlock it after the warning. >:)
I haven't seen any locked fic yet. *knocks on wood* It only happened with fic posted to one com, but they lock everything R/NC-17, so I just joined and solved the problem. :D What's the excuse behind locking that?
