(Listed in order of season, rather than necessarily in order of preference)
Rory's Dance was the first that came to mind, so much love for all of the Loreli and Emily scenes in that episode especially, as well as how the conflict with Lorelai and Rory plays out. Then There's The Rub, mostly for the Lorelei and Emily scenes at the spa, but I also really enjoyed the scenes of Paris bonding with Rory and Jess. And of course Those Are Strings, Pinocchio for all of the nostalgic touches with Rory graduating Chilton
This one is probably an odd choice because I don't know that it's a stand-out episode as such, but I do have a soft spot for the Rory and Paris bonding scenes in Girls In Bikinis, Boys Doin' The Twist, that episode really clicked for me. And finally Wedding Bell Blues and Friday Night's Alright For Fighting are both favourites of mine, especially the editing of them all fighting and yelling at one another in turn *g*
Oh and also the final two/three episodes of season 4, I couldn't really narrow it down to just one of them. For someone who was NOT a fan of how the L/L romance ultimately played out, I still find the build-up to it in those episodes really touching and well-done, Luke was so cute listening to those self-help tapes and getting defensive when Lorelei makes fun of Jess for listening to them lol
I love all of these eps! LOL, I rate Girls in Bikinis, Boys Doing The Twist as a FAVORITE ep....and I plumb forgot what Lorelai was doing in that ep. The Rory/Paris stuff is just too much fun- it makes the ep. I'm not even into shoe-horned characters- but it just seems so right that they'd run into a Madeline and Louise making...like a "NON-career" out of spring-breaking. Hee!
I do like Lorelai/Luke- even though I'm not a hard-core shipper. However, yes, it's part of why I find the last three eps magical. But like, I HATE Rory/Dean- but enjoy the last three eps because I think the story behind their lead-up to an affair was pretty well written and a rare case of GG doing some good gritty behavior depicting Rory behaving badly. (Although, that went to pot in S5 when consequences for Rory were swept under the rug and I still hadda deal with Rory/Dean scenes as a "romance".)
I think a lot of my faves also comes from Gilmore Family Conflicts.
I don't know what fandom consensus is with GG tbh lol, I just assumed that Girls in Bikinis, Boys Doing The Twist wouldn't be considered one of the classic episodes because it doesn't involve anything with Lorelei and her parents, but yeah Paris was so great in that episode! I loved her and Rory just not particularly wanting to go outside their hotel room and take part in the activities, it felt like a very Gilmore Girls way of handling the somewhat clichéd college Spring Break plot
I think a lot of my faves also comes from Gilmore Family Conflicts.
:nods: Basically throw Emily into an episode, and it's usually a win for me! When I was first considering my list I was going to include the first three episodes of season 1 as well actually, Rory bonding with her grandfather for the first time in episode 3 is especially sweet, but I had to cut it down a bit unfortunately or I would have ended up listing about 5-6 episodes from each season *g*
My immediate top three has always been Restless, Once More With Feeling, and Fool For Love (in that order), those are all stand-out episodes IMHO that never get old. And then hmmm I'd probably say Prophecy Girl as I have a real soft soft for that episode and how it brings the first season to a close, Innocence for being such a game-changer for the show, The Wish for the fun of seeing the characters in such a dark AU, and maybe Who Are You for Sarah channelling Faith?
Doppelgangland was another great one :) Seasons 3 and 4 especially have so many stand-out episodes that I'd need a top 20 really to narrow down all of my fav Bufy episodes *g*
My favourites are mostly the same old boring picks that everyone goes for I'm afraid! The Post-Modern Prometheus and Jose Chung's From Outer Space are my two immediate favs as I generally loved anytime that the show stretched and tried something different, then Beyond The Sea and Paper Hearts are my favourite character episodes for Mulder and Scully, and Humbug, Small Potatoes, and Bad Blood are my favourite comedy episodes
A Trip To The Dentist is my number one episode, the flashbacks and the twists were on top form in that episode, the emotion was so intense ('because you were my sister!'), and it was also just nice to see so many past characters like Meg and Carrie Bishop return for cameos. And then The Pilot for being a fabulous intro to the show, An Echolls Family Christmas for the fun of Logan, Duncan, Weevil, and Veronica all at that poker game *g*, as well as the scenes with Logan's parents of course. I also really like Not Pictured from season 2, it was a great ending for the second season, and I enjoyed all of the little touches like Veronica's final goodbye to the principal, or the heartbreak of Weevil not getting to graduate after all. Oh and maybe not such an obvious choice but I'd also go with The Wrath Of Con. It was a fun mystery of the week, but mostly I have a soft spot for that episode for all the Lily flashbacks and the final memorial to her that Logan put together, it was the episode that really hooked me on the show and got me interested in the central mystery of who killed Lily
My favourite character will quickly become apparent from this list lol, but Memoria first definitely for all of the Lex backstory, then Shattered/Asylum for ripping my heart out, Nemesis for being pretty much an entire episode of Clark and Lex talking about their lost friendship (as well as featuring a pretty badass Lana!) And hmm let's see, I'd also pick Lineage for the Clark and Lex backstory, and finally Hourglass for the hints of Lex and Clark's future,
Ooh let's see. The first two that immediately come to mind are the first two Halloween specials. The First Secret was such a fun surprise with all of the flashbacks with Allison and the girls, as well as seeing younger Mona and Jenna, plus the surprising reveal that Allison was getting threats from A before her ~death~. And then well who couldn't love an episode happening entirely on a train *g* The costumes were all great in It's A Dark Ride, Adam Lambert's appearance was fun, and it was good (in a twisted sort of a way anyway!) to have something happen to Aria at last with the intensity of her being trapped in the coffin. Then there was that final shock with what we thought with Allison's missing body being revealed
I'd also say Welcome To The Dollhouse was another stand-out when the girls all get arrested and end up in the dollhouse, a very dramatic way to end the fifth season. Also unmAsked of course with the reveal that Mona was A. And finally the season 2 mid season finale Over My Dead Body with the girls all having to follow instructions from their "chucky dolls", and then the moment with them all digging up what they thought was Mrs Sullivan's body. I really liked the framing of that episode and how it got you wondering how they all ended up at the police station, Spencer's death stare through the glass was something to remember!
It's a little bit tough to just narrow it down to individual episodes though because a lot of my favourite moments, like the arc of Spencer believing that Toby was A and ending up in Radley, are more long-running arcs and can't be narrowed down to just one specific episode.
Not a lot of episodes to choose from there lol, but I did really like the Pilot as a strong intro for the show, and also Boxman when they go into the temple and the characters are hit by flashbacks, I especially loved the Seth and Richie backstory from that episode. And after being a bit down on the series the last time I wrote about season 2 of FDTD, I actually *really* enjoyed the final two episodes and they convinced me to stick with it for season 3, so I guess I'll say those two as well!
THE BACKSTORY OF RICHIE BEING THE ONE TO START THE FIRE WAS EVERYTHING. *_________* And I'm very happy to hear you have rediscovered your love and will co-sign on that finale. GIVE ME SEASON 3 OR GIVE ME DEATH.
I could never do that as I never remember episode titles whatsoever and mostly only have favourite scenes and sometimes don't even remember from which episode they are :P *lol* :D
Supernatural! (as I'm re-watching it and re-discovering that I really don't mind the show: I'm suffering from insomnia, waking up at the most unholy hours of the night, and I've discovered that Rai2 is airing 4 episodes for night: this week it's been season 7)...
What Is and What Should Never Be for being a really heartbreaking AU for Dean
Mystery Spot for the hilarity and black comedy of Dean's many deaths
A Very Supernatural Christmas for being such a delightfully twisted attempt at a Christmas episode (yikes at the body being dragged down the stairs in a sack with the little kid watching!), as well as the adorable flashbacks of course
Lazarus Rising for being the best SPN premiere IMO
On the Head of a Pin for the darkness and intensity of the Dean and Alistair scenes, and of course the angel storyline
Changing Channels for the show trying something different and being hilarious with it
Abandon All Hope for killing me with Ellen and Jo's deaths <3
1. Darla 2. Reunion 3. Are You Now or Have You Ever Been 4. You're Welcome 5. Five By Five 6. A Hole In The World (I know that a lot of fandom now considers it mawkish and overdone, but I can't help really getting drawn in by it still) 7. Not Fade Away
Yeah I'm kind of a sucker for torture porn with my tv I must admit, and there was just something so horrifingly sad about how Fred's fate was drawn out in that episode, and all of the other characters battles to save her coming to nothing. "Why can't I stay"
:goes to wiki to remind myself of the episode titles: *g*
It's really tough to choose between "Mizumono" and "The Wrath of the Lamb" for favourite as the seasons 2 and 3 finales were both pretty epic. I think that ultimately I'd go with "The Wrath of the Lamb" for my number one episode for that embrace, but it's a tough call!
3. "Digestivo" because anything with Mason is always pretty fucked-up and interesting lol. Who could forget Hannibal's proud smile when Will takes a bite of Cordell, or Hannibal carrying Will bridal style from the house, or Hannibal's heartbreak at the end and turning himself in after Will rejected him.
4. "Savoureux" for Will finally realising the truth about Hannibal,“Wind him up and watch him go. Well apparently, Dr. Lecter, this is how I go”, and then that killer ending
5. Urgh I feel like my choices are mostly really boring ones as they're all season finales or the end of a mid-season arc, but well Hannibal did do them so well! For my final choice though I really loved "Rôti" covering Will's breakdown and Hannibal slowly turning him insane, my heart broke when he was begging Hannibal, "Please don't lie to me"
Looking over that list, it's interesting that none of the episodes from series 8 and 9 are really stand-outs for me. Seasons 1-3 especially had a lot more Loved It! and Hated It! episodes, while Capaldi's time on the show has been mostly marked by more consistently solid episodes, but nothing truly exceptional for me personally. Listen and Mummy On The Orient Express were my favs from the last series and I enjoyed them a lot, but I wouldn't put either of them up there with my all-time favourite episodes tbh, and for series 9 I haven't really had any episode so far that I've been particularly raving about and excited about re-watching. It's not that any of them have been bad as such (well eh other than episode 9 maybe...), but they've mostly been just solid enough monster/base under siege two-parters with nothing particularly exceptional about them IMHO
I completely get what you mean about recent series being generally consistent, but generally without any stand outs (although I think I need to re-watch as I've only watched those episodes once!)
Yeah I think that's why I haven't had much to say about DW lately, being just okay is generally the kiss of death for me, I get much more invested if there's episodes to really rave or rant about. But then I have seen discussion of series 9 being one of the best yet, so I suppose that everyone's opinions differ :shrugs: I've just found series 9 and its two-partners to mostly be pretty traditional DW, whereas I'm much more invested in character studies of the Doctor and his companion than I am in the weekly guest casts.
Haunted because that was the first episode that really hooked me on the show with how it dealt with Vicki's death, and then that epic final scene on the porch
Miss Mystic Falls because ripper Stefan was such a great arc, it has the Delena dance (I did ship them in the first season!), and the character movements for Caroline were pretty great too.
Founder's Day because it's one of my favourite season finales, I loved everything about it, especially that final twist with Katherine
The Return because it was one of my favourite premieres, and such a great intro for Katherine with her messing with absolutely everyone
The End Of The Affair was one of my favourite flashback episodes, Stefan, Rebekah, and Klaus in the 20's <3
The Reckoning because I really loved the intensity of that episode, and the Stelena scenes
Stand By Me was one of the most powerful episodes of the series with how it dealt with Jeremy's death and Elena's grief
And I was torn because 500 Years Of Solitute or Gone Girl because the 100th episode does have the nostalgia of all the returning characters, but Damon's cruelty frustrated me so much in that one that I think I'd go with Gone Girl instead as my favourite farewell to Katherine. I loved her coming back for Nadia, and her final speech to the regulars was something to remember!
Downward Spiral because Caroline without her humanity was such a fun surprise
I'm Thinking Of You All The While because it was the end of an era
DNA Mad Scientist because it's the episode that really won me over to the show, it had such a memorable villain, as well as the body horror of poor Aeryn slowly turning into Pilot's species
The Way We Weren't just because I loved the flashbacks and the backstory for Aeryn and Pilot, and then there was her breaking down in John's arms, or stroking Pilot's face <3
Won't Get Fooled Again that episode was just nuts lol, and it's still my all-time favourite. I did show it to someone once in an attempt to get her interested in Farscape, but in retrospect perhaps I could have chosen a slightly more normal intro as I don't think that it really won her over :P
Liars Guns And Money part 3 because the rescue of John, and Aeryn just knocking him out with her gun when he's trying to go to Scorpuis, well that's still one of my all-time fav scenes from the show. I loved that entire arc of John slowly being mind-controlled and taken over by Scorpuis
The Choice for Aern breaking my heart with her grief over John :sniffs:
Kansas/Terms Firma/A Constellation Of Doubt. Yes I'm cheating lol, but those episodes were all so well well done that they all need to be included I'm afraid, I'm so happy that John did get to go back to Earth during the course of the story
Bad Timing because I'm one of those weirdos that was very happy with that as a conclusion to the series. I loved that Pilot got to play an active role in saving the day for once, and John and Aeryn's engagement at the end was the perfect mix of comedy and tragedy with Rygel and D'Argo narrating it all to Chiana. I am happy that we got the later mini-series though of course, but honestly I would have been perfectly happy with this ending too. It threw me the first time I watched it obviously lol, but I ended up kind of liking the romance of them dying in one another's arms...
